I actually thought that despite not scoring or getting points, Slaf had one of the best games today. He looked maybe even a little less noticeable and more subtle in his game but so much more effective with and without the puck. Watching him today felt like watching an established NHLer. I am sure it will continue to be up and down for him but personally for me today, his game looked very encouraging and I only hope he can build on it.

nevermind... Slaf actually got a point on CC's goal. Good for him.

Gallagher (7 points in November btw) has generated tons of chances for his linemates and they weren’t converted. Moving him up makes perfect sense. He’s playing well. Chances don’t always yield the points they should (see CC this season)

You made a silly comment on it, got called out and now you’re here digging in your heels.

There’s not another player who can play in that spot right now. We don’t have the depth.

As for Ylo, I agree… he should get more opportunity. I’d put him with Monahan. He’ll get his chance to move up.

But to suggest that it’s some kind of crime to put Gallagher there is a really, really bad take.
There are a number of players who can play in that spot but apparently we have to spread out the little talent we do have.

No Suzuki on this list why not if he's such a good fit?

I don't get the Slaf harassment. He's improving from game to game. We forget he's only 19. This is a social network trolling obsession. Some posters want to keep yelling he's a bust or every player they didn't want will become busts for no reason except jealousy or stubborn opinion. Slaf's play will evolve more quickly than some posters opinions will evolve.

Sorry I edited that comment. Nobody who can fill it better.

Sorry I don’t know what you’re saying here.

And honestly…. It doesn’t matter. There’s really no case for anyone other than Gallagher on that line at this time.

As I said, screaming that he’s bringing that line down is a really bad take.

Just curious. Can you post what you would do?

When I see this. I always translate it too. "You're a bit of a freak, but that's okay".

Try for 5-6 games:
Cole-Nick-Slaf
Alex-Sean-Yolo
Armia-Dvo-Gally
Pearson-Evans-Andy

If Slaf doesn't step up, go for
Cole-Nick-Sean
Slaf-Newhook-Yolo
Pearson-Dvo-Gally
Armia-Evans-Anderson

Try Yolo on the big lines, at least.

They're really missing a C in hindsight, and there's no one you can call up from the farm either, pretty bad oversight by HuGo IMO. I guess they could call-up Stephens but then Laval will really, really suck.

It’s not harassment or jealously or stubbornness. It’s not trolling either.

He was not good last year — this is a fact, and many refused to concede even this, which triggers many arguments — and given the Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi experiences there were genuine and legitimate reasons to want him to develop away from the Habs.

If he’s actually cooking with the Habs then that is simply excellent. He’s our player and we should all be thrilled to see him bloom.

Thanks, I know that was a lot of typing.

The first set would also be my first choice. Especially with Slaf stepping up and playing well with Cole. Alex with Sean and Yolo I believe could work. Plus even our bottom 6 looks solid. The only thing I don't like about the second set is Newhook at C. Other than that, I'd be happy with both sets.

Agreed, Stephens is an option. But we need atleast another solid 2nd line C. Again losing Dach, has changed the balance of the lines a great deal. lol yes I agree about the oversight as well.

Disingenuous as ever.

Clearly, every Habs fan wants what’s best for the Habs.

Lex Luther is an antagonist figure whose interests are at odds with Super Man. Completely different.

Besides, it’s silly to preclude the possibility of changing one’s conclusions with new inputs. Silly and unnecessary.

There were a lot of posters who did post with that type of mentality. They looked at players like Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi and automatically put Slafkovsky in the same category. Instead of looking closely at how Slafkovsky was being brought along.

The argument can still be made over whether Slafkovsky should have been playing in the NHL last season or not. Though seeing how well he's progressed this year. The fact that he was spoon fed chances (ice time) slowly. Instead of being rushed into situations he clearly wasn't ready for. Shows me that the managements plan for him, is working. He's been treated a lot differently than either Galchenyuk or Kotkaniemi. They were thrown to the wolves IMO, while Slafkovsky has been babied so to speak.

If not for the injury, which could have happened wherever he played last season. I think he was on pace to do late last season. What we're seeing him do right now.

Not pointing you speciflcly, I don't pay attention exactly who wrote this or that here. I don't read everything and I don't spend enough time. It's true last year he sucked and would have been better in ahl or sweden, good euro adult team you know. But this year in nhl he's showing noticable progress and I'm happy you notice it and say it's a good point for us.

I can as doubtful as you or anyone but when my eyes sees someting good, it's "recorded" and I keep room in my mind for a change of opinion. We talk about a young player in progress. Or in regress. I don't want to paint myself in the corner before having enough informations. I have a different approach with players over 24 or 26. The only players I bash are over 25.

:)

Just ignore the noise. He’s improving game by game. The potential for a really solid player is there. But it’s not all going to be sunshine and rainbows.

I have no doubt that this team’s going to go into another funk. Hopefully it will be two steps forward, one step back. But there are going to be tough stretches coming as well. Rebuilding doesn’t come without pain.

It's quite long the time before seing the future team, don't fool ourselves, there will be a lot of downs, games losts but slowly we'll see some changes, new faces, peices of puzzle joining together. It's slow motion but it's going there.
