Anybody thinking about changing their lines after one preseason game?

What's your line-up with Price included on the roster (moved to LTIR after the season) and with Roy making the big club?

Very curious to see how that is managed.

Caufield - Suzuki - Monahan (Monahan is a smart player this will work)
Slaf - Dach - Anderson (3 big and fast guys, this line will drain the other team)
RHP - Newhook - Gallagher (Energy line with speed and grid)
Pezz - Evans - Pearson (worse 4th line in the league)
Ylonen- Armia

Matheson - Barron
Guhle - Savard
Xhekaj - Kovacevic
Harris

Not sure if Roy makes it or not. For now, I'll say he doesn't but he's the 1st one called up with injuries. If Roy makes it, he should not be playing 4th line so then I wonder how this changes things.

Forwards (Green means go):
1 - Caufield / Suzuki / Dach: I have Dach moving from center to wing and vice versa... all season long. Talent playing with talent and this is the best 1st line we can come up with. I would not call this line a 1A or a 1B.

2B - Slaf / Monahan / Anderson: Monahan is the mature center who can win faceoffs and the forecheck with Monahan/Anderson frees up space for Slaf. I think this is the best spot for Slaf. Two mature line-mates who play a physical game. Monahan could swap spots with Dach at times and I'd be fine with that too.

2B - RHP / Newhook / Gallagher: High energy line. I think Gallagher might rebound in this situation. If Newhook can be a full time center, Dach can be left on the top line or 2nd line center usage. Gallagher can also help out at times on the faceoffs if Newhook is struggling or they go left side vs right side thingy

4A - Pearson / Dvorak or Evans / Armia: 4th line is movable parts and Evans starts at center if Dvorak is not healthy to start. Evans becomes the extra forward with Dvorak in. Ylonen may replace either of Pearson or Armia. Like I said, the 4th line is movable parts. Ylonen has to out perform both Pearson and Armia who are also looking for rebound seasons as vets.

Defense (Yellow means move with caution):
1 - Matheson / Guhle: Move Guhle to right side and this is a good top pairing to lean on. Guhle does fit Matheson well IMO. I would not call this a 1A or 1B either.

2B - Harris / Savard: Decent 2nd pairing.

3A - Xhekaj / Barron or Lindstrom: I think Kova is the extra D but not who starts with Xhekaj. Barron or Lindstrom.

Goaltending (Red means full stop):
Monty / Allen: Whoever is hot, gets more starts. Start with the 41/41 plan and go from there. I think Monty gets to 50 starts if he keeps up what he has been doing. Allen should show up this year because I think he knows he had a bad season last year.

Barring injury & trade, I think we'll see something like this opening night.

Roy will be first call up, unless they decide to send Slaf to AHL.

Pearson will start on 1st line, with Slaf or Roy eventually bumping him out.

Playing Dach with Moneyhands & RHP gives him both the C support for key dzine draws & 2 wingers that can snipe & feed of his vision & space creation.

Newhook/Anderson seem to be developing some chemistry, heavy ozone deployment could help them put up big #'s

4th line is most expensive in the league (bargain bin's gifts keep on giving), but should have the ability to take on heavy dzone starts without being a liability.

CC Suzuki Pearson
RHP Dach Monahan
Slaf Newhook Anderson
Armia Evans Gallagher
Ylonen/Pezetta

Matheson Guhle
Harris Savard
Xhekaj Barron
Lindstrom

The more I think about it, the more I am coming to grips that Roy makes in in Slaf's spot and Slaf starts in the AHL.

I also think when the dust settles, we are running with 8 D (2 extra) and 13 forwards (1 extra).

Pezzetta is not getting claimed on waivers. Not sure if Kova does or not but he's on my roster as a spare. Pezzetta is a good one to have as a spare but I'm fairly confident he is going to the AHL.

Caulfield-Suzuki-Ylonen
Salf-Dach- Monahan
RHP-Newhook- Anderson
Pearson-Evans- Gallagher

Rationale, It gives 3 lines that can score and a 4th that will work their @$$ off.
I like Monahan with Dach to support face offs, Anderson new-hook seems to work on a speed level.
Slaf had his best games last year with Monahan so put him on that line. RHP gets Newhook.

Once Monahan and anderson have been assigned who gets RW with Caulfield and Suzuki? Don't think Gallagher can at this point so try a rotation of Kids in camp, maybe its Ylonen, maybe Roy, try a few and see what sticks.

I have no idea what management is thinking right now, a bunch of square pegs trying to be put in round holes. Next year.

With Dvo out until November, suddenly the bottom C position opens up:

CC Suzy Slaf
Newhook Dach Anderson
RHP Monahan Pearson
Armia Evans Gallagher

IR: Dvorak

Extras: Ylonen, Pezzetta

Matheson Savard
Guhle Barron
Harris Xhekaj
Kovacevic Wideman/Lindström

Monty
Allen

guys that need to clear waivers:

Condotta
Stephens
Wideman
Lindström
Primeau
Ylonen
Pezzetta
Lias Andersson
Maillet
Beaudin
Keeper

Monahan and Pearson are still question marks. Armia and Gallagher are the BargainBin mistakes that are difficult to fix.

Habs will likely lose a player or two through waivers.

Assuming Monahan starts with Suzuki/CC, and the Slaf/Dach/RHP line sticks, who do we like to play with Newhook and Anderson?

Would like to see Roy get a shot but that seems unlikely at least start. Probably Gallagher but he doesn’t seem to fit anywhere anymore as much as he’s been a warrior for us.

Dach and Newhook are probably our two best guy to carry the puck across the blue lines so I would not have them on the same line.. Monahan or Dack could complete the 1st line but I like them together Dach can be center and Monahan can take some important faceoff or on is strong side…

CC Suzuki Anderson
RHP Dach Monahan
Slaf Newhook Gallagher
Pearson Evans Armia
Pezz

Monahan is our best center at faceoff, if they planned to use Newhook at LW, we need money back at center.

Monahan isn’t isn’t part of the futur he should play the wing supporting Suzuki or Dach and take important faceoff or since they are both righty and Monanhan Lefty they can also alternate depending on who is on there strong side…

MSL said he knows Dach would work well on Suzuki’s wing. He’s more interested in information gathering.

Also, I find that in preseason lines combos may not be a great predictor, but often we see pairings up front that stick.

Caufield - Suzuki- Monahan
Slaf - Dach - Ylonen
RHP - Newhook - Anderson
Pearson - Evans - Gallagher
/ Pezz , Armia

I dont want to doom newhook with gally. I’d prefer him top 6W than 3C

To start..

Anderson - Suzuki - Caufield
Monahan - Dach - Slaf
RHP - Newhook - Gally
Pearson - Evans - Armia
Pezz

Once Dvo is back and in consideration of some of our unmovable pieces, this is what I would like to see.

Monahan - Suzuki - Caufield
Newhook - Dach - Slaf
RHP - Dvorak - Anderson
Pearson - Evans - Gally
Armia, Pezz

Unless we can trade Army, we will have to expose Ylonen. I see no other way around this at this point.

Matheson - Guhle
Harris - Savard
Xhekaj - Barron
Kova

Monty
Allen

First call ups would be Roy, Ylonen and Heinemen up front and Mailloux and Trudeau on back end.

Reinbacher back to Europe
Beck back to Peterborough

I prefer balanced lines with triple scoring threats and some grit on each line:
Pearson-Suzuki-Caufield
Slaf-Monahan-Dach
Newhook-Dvorak-Anderson
RHP-Evans-Gallagher
Pezzetta
Waive Armia or trade Ylonen

I like the idea of matching Suzuki with Monahan and Dach with Newhook, it allows for a lot of faceoff flexibility and the styles blend pretty well. Feels like Newhook has to be a center early until Dvorak is back though, unless they really want to give Beck some time on the big team before sending him back to junior.

I don't see why Beck should take up a roster spot. Unless we have a brief emergency callup situation like last year, let him finish out his OHL career and try to break the top 30 in scoring.
