So much will change between now and then. I wouldn't be surprised if there are players we overlook now who are making a push for the roster by then and guys we pencil in who have some hiccups or need more time in the AHL (roy, farrell etc...)

Too early to tell

It is too early to tell. Because NHL rosters tend to have a lot of turnover.

But, with all our unmovable vet contracts at forward and young players upcoming on D that we'll want to give opportunities to, it seems to me there won't be all that much turnover. Unless Hughes can really do something magic.

Having said that, Drouin, Byron, Jake Allen, Hoffman, and Edmundson will be ufa's by fall 2024. And, Dvorak, Anderson, and Petry are all movable. Maybe Savard as well. So that is 8 or 9 players...

How did we get rid of Armia?

And I think Edmundson gets moved before he's a ufa.

No Norlinder, maybe Xhekaj/Struble??
No Allen, traded, another goalie signed or just Primeau/Dobes duetto?
Maybe 1 other draftee from this year would make it in 2024 camp
edmundson is UFA in 2024, re-signed? maybe
few UFAs will start showing up by summer 2024
lot of maybes there lol

First mistake is no Xhekaj

I'm really high on him, in 2 year he's for sure in our top 6 dman if there's no major injury.

I even see him playing some games with us next year.

We don't know how those young guys will progress
We don't where we will pick and which prospect is gonna be in the top 10
We don't know who will be available by trade and FA

To much question mark to really projet our line up

Absolutely. It's more of a canvass to work from than what it will actually look like.

Roy - Suzuki - Caufield
Anderson - Wright - Bedard
Pitlick - Evans - Gallagher
Ylonen - Poehling - Farrell

Byram - Guhle
Romanov - Barron
Harris - Xhekaj

This thread probably proves that, collectively, we have time to lose.

I'm more interested in a hazy, most certainly inaccurate image of our team in fall 2024 than an accurate picture of our team in fall 2022 or 2023., where we'll most certainly suck.

We certainly will have a lot of time on our hands over the next two years, especially come playoff time.

Why?

If we actually put our minds to successfully tanking this year, it puts us in a really good position going forward.

Let's hope we don't screw that up!
Exactly, one more TankNation 2.0.. pick top 3 next year for a franchise player - and we are set to start our journey to become a contender.

Yes. Let's make an OS for him!

I wanted him as the prospect we targeted from colorado before we made the trade for Barron. So I definitely was willing to roll the dice in the form of forgoing other futures in favor of Byram. But a long term high cap hit is a whole other type of risk.

Plus, chances are Colorado matches.

Creative thinking though. We saw with KK, the way to get an rfa offersheet to work is give a well above market cap hit to a player with question Mark's whose current team is up against the cap...

If a Byram offer is short term - like 1 year 8M, or 2 years 7M AAV, I'd roll the dice on it.
