Guest thread : how were these boards before Leafs official website boards folded?

Avs fan here coming in peace but I was wondering this same question the other day with regards to the official Avs message boards from before. I had browsed HF before the official boards closed but always told myself that those old boards were a surer bet since they were literally linked to on the team's official website. So long and hail HF I guess haha.

It was never as good as HFboards, but it was decent for some prospect coverage back before you could just google a stat-line or watch highlgihts on yt.

Not sure about other boards but this place was much better before the invention of Twitter and the heavy reliance some have with advanced stats.

Has anyone been here longer than @Mess and I?

Agreed, it was also more interesting when hfboards actually had active prospect write-ups and a website dedicated to prospects. I still fondly remember the arguments that used to take place when teams annual prospect grades came out or HF did their top 50 prospects. As an aside, I've been on here since 2007.

Been here since 2007, came this way from Fanhome? I think was called? Been some good times, from the Muskoka five debates, Jason Allison's speed, the greats like Aki Berg and Jeff Finger, the great Bozak vs Grabbo, Bozak vs Kadri debates.... Man, things were bleak.

I didn't even know there was an official leafs website board!

it started as a newsgroup way back(called the QZ or quote zone) and then became an actual chatboard around 1999 or so, it was eventually absorbed into the NHL Network which screwed the whole thing up royally, they changed the formatting several times and no matter what it was full of glitches and heavy handed moderation, much too heavy handed for most of the people who were around for awhile. A new board sprang up started by members which was pretty good for awhile, but there was very little moderation and eventually that board became a very cliquey kind of place bogged down by groupthink, the moderation was driven by who approved of who and so on and a certain kind of cultishness negativity palled over the whole thing. I posted there right up until about 18 months ago, it seemed it was no longer about hockey.

I was a member to the end of the official Leafs' board. It got shut down around the time there was some social media gossip regarding Lupul and a teammate's significant other. I actually enjoyed that site the most of any over the years.

I remember posting at HFBoards on the Leafs' prospects site. Man, some of that interaction was brutal. It was 10 times worse than YT comments.

I joined in 2011 because I wanted to have one of those old animated GIF avatars but was reading this board for a couple of years before that . Back when we had some Former /Current at the time players and several media types involved , before their employers decided they owned their words .

Also I sure wish the second frame of my GIF was the one that continued on as my avatar LOL !

For those unaware, the Joined date of 2002 isn't accurate.
We were here before 2002 but the board was recycled/rebuilt in 2002.

And of course Cornflake's

I was actively looking for Leafs discussion boards back in the day and never even found the site you're talking about

I was active mostly on PPP from 06-11 but then the original guys who ran it kept stepping back and it slowly devolved into the insufferable mire it is today. I actually think they have good articles, but the way they talk to people (their editor in particular) is just, dripping condescension and hostility. I couldn't stomach it.

Wow that's a look back eh ? is there another rookie prospect year where the top 10 are that prominent in the league that many years later , or even with all 10 still in the league that many years later ?
No not likely. That’s a pretty heavy list :). There was other drafts that were really good. That one is so deep
Here is a site if you would like to check :) Hockey Draft Pick Transactions Hit the home button on that site for other options.

I was on the old boards and recall discussions around Berg, Antropov, Sundin, etc. etc.
I'd like to say I would have been around 2 decades ago.

I didn't join hfboards immediately, I recall taking a break for awhile from forums after that.
Heck, I quit the old boards a year or so before the end; when they tried and turn it into a bad social media platform.

Not that I miss them but where have the advanced stats gone? Turns out it really was a fad like spinners, conkers and pyramid power. Or does my ignore list coincide with the posters who still incessantly quote eye-of-the-beholder advanced stats. My favourite: heat zone maps where someone would post one and say "look at this heat zone map, no wonder the Leafs lost" like there was anything to read into it.
