He played a slot role. For him to finish, the guys on the perimeter have to get him the puck effectively. They didn’t. He had just 3 PP shots in those 6 games against New York.

He had 34 points in 28 games played with us, and had obvious and instant chemistry with our star player. The fact that he didn't instantly fix a PP that ALWAYS fails us in the playoffs is not a good enough reason to let him go.

So Out:

Guentzel, Necas likely, TT, Martinook
Pesce, Skjei, TDA

?? - Aho - Jarvis
Svech - Kuzy - ???
?? - KK - ??
Lemuix - Staal - Fast

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
??? - Morrow

Closing in to half the roster gone.
This is also discounting when Kuznetsov comes into camp out of shape and gets 86'ed to the AHL within 10 games.

What bugs me the most about this is there's clearly something going on behind the scenes.

For years, we weren't able to go after the talented players because they wanted to play for winners. Fair enough.

Then we became perennial winners and we've heard that we can't go after the talented players because they're asking for too much money. Alright then.

Now we've got a winning team, we're offering the player exactly what he apparently asked for, AND he found great personal success on the ice playing with us...and we still can't keep talented players around.

So what's the excuse now?

They signed two of the top free agents last year, didn't they?

We gave Orlov a contract no one else was giving him, and we couldn't make it past a few months before we split with Bunting.
Both players sought out and chose the Canes which you were implying because Guentzel is going FA there must be something behind the scenes driving people away from signing here.

One thing that will never change with a UFA situation is that some guys just don’t want to live in Raleigh if they have other options. Some guys want a big city. Some guys want to be closer to home. Some guys just want the most money possible. It is what is.

I wonder if JG is seeing all the other possible attrition from the team and rethinking how valuable his chemistry with Aho was? "I wanted to sign with the team CAR had LAST year. If that team is torn down like it looks like it may be, I may not want to be here"

Private equity guy leading the negotiations? You want to play for Ryan smith type or a guy like Dunedin that reportedly has no friends and perhaps doesn’t have the interpersonal skill to attract people.

It’s not 1999 anymore and today’s Triangle has become a much larger market. Plus, if you are a young guy plenty of college co-eds

I’m not suggesting Raleigh is some shithole, but its never going to be a destination like New York/LA/Vegas etc to someone who wants that type of experience.

We probably won’t fill those empty slots.
