I forgot Skvortzov is only an '07. Jovanovski is also an '07 and has a .913 save percentage. He an Ellsworth will look good between the pipes.

This weekend has shown that the future is bright.

K Newton another 07 G but not signed has impressive numbers with Ayr as well.

13 - 1 W/L 2.35 GAA .929 SV%

Whelp, 4-0 after 1. I hope Ellsworth starts the 2nd, not because I think Gillespie is playing horribly, but we never saw him pulled with Wiseman. Time to shake things up a bit.

thin on the backend this weekend I think, Budnick out and Beauchesne two game suspension. Using Young to fill in.

Seems like Groundhog day in Guelph. What is it with D injuries in this city? Great for the young guys getting ice, but man, its like last year all over again.

Been reading the board for years but have never posted.
Every game I watch the announcers are always talking about Stillman and how great a coach he is.
I just don’t see it…. Am I wrong? There is a lot of talent on this team yet it isn’t showing. Is the team not working for Stillman? The 07’s who showed so much promise last year are barely there. The power play has been atrocious yet he hasn’t changed it all year. I don’t get it? If it isn’t working change it.

Hey Chad, is that you? The coaching has definitely improved from last year. This is a young team, especially on defence. There is a certain amount of line juggling happening to find the best fit, which isn't helped by injury or suspension. It is what it is.

lol,
I’m not Mr Wiseman.
this is the second youngest team in the league, no argument there and injuries are once again hurting the team. Forgive me though I would disagree with the coaching. Although young there is tremendous talent on the team, they are under performing. To me that only comes down to coaching.

Injuries are the biggest issue for our D but finish/scoring, especialy our vets, has been the biggest issue with our F's. No one in double digits or top 60 in goals.
The noticeable difference in coaching is that last year we had trouble reaching 20 shots per game and this year we seem to be getting about 40 per game. I myself prefer this year's style with i believe more upside results coming when healthy.
Both coaches unlike many teams (ie Kitchener, Barrie, Ottawa and even London to name a few) are giving our kids regular icetime to develop.

New coach, new systems....actually just systems, which is a nice change from the last two years. You can at least see the systems in play this year, whereas last year there was nothing. This coaching staff actually talks to players on the bench and takes full advantage of any timeouts, either called or during stoppages for snow clearing - that's a huge change in comparison to the water drinking that went on last year. There has been a lot of flux with injuries and an injection of a lot of new players, as well as the older players buying into the system when they didn't have one last year. There are some sophomores that have not taken that next step, while others have surprised. There's one highly overrated sophomore that gets played way too much without warrant in my opinion. This is a rebuilding year and is very reminiscent of a couple of seasons that occurred just prior to the 2014 championship. If they can get fully healthy I think we will see some improvement and a bit of a run after the holiday break, but be prepared to lose Luchanko and Allen at a minimum, hopefully with some good, young return to join and complement the younger core. Enjoy the rest of the season for what it is - a rebuild - and look as they build around the 2006- largely 2007 core to make a run next year and the following year.

Thanks for the reply,
I can remember last year watching the bench and wondering why aren’t they talking down there! As for the sophomores a few seem to struggle with consistency, and there is one that is way overrated.( I wonder if we are thinking of the same player?)
I think we will all have to come to terms with Luchenko leaving… I hadn’t even considered Allen but you’re right there.
It may force those sophomores to take that next step or show the team what its next steps will be.

Unfortunately injuries (Topp and Haley) and Budnick's early absence put sophomore and rookie D's in less than ideal and unfair positions up against top lines of predominently veteran players. Leaving only Allen along with rookies and sophomores available for too many games.
Above 3 vets have missed a total of 41 games not including another 11 games for Beauchense and 5 for Spada.

Oh, I suspect we are thinking of the same sophomore D-man….

I liked their PP at the start of the season but now its resorted back to last year's system of standing in one spot and looking for the one timer. I still believe they should implement a basketball mentality, keep moving your forwards around and let the D come down low to give another potential shooter. The opposition box will have a hard time tracking all the movements and may also have them breakdown the box trying to cover any potential threats leaving someone else open.

And please, please, please stop doing the drop back pass when bringing up the puck on the PP, usually its off the mark causing a turnover or the opposition just stacks the blueline to stop it anyways.

lastly, they need to start playing Ellsworth more, the kid is not getting meaningful action to improve and Gillespie is not handling the heavy workload very well.

The drop back pass is definitely an issue as they rarely execute effectively.

Curious to see how they handle the goaltender position with possibly 4 options available. At least one too many to start next year, so do we address at deadline or during the off season.

I've actually considered trading Gillespie given this season is probably a write-off. He will be an overager next year and I always thought its a waste of an OA spot on a goalie. I would let Ellsworth, Jovanovski or Newton play the remainder of the season and get playing time to help in a year where we have a meaningful team.

Josh Brown's 21 article today is suggesting a fire sale including Gillespie, Luchanko, Allen, Karabella and Alriksson.
I would be surprised if contenders are not also interested in Budnick being an OA shutdown Dman.
Doubtful all are moved, but probably 3 or 4 for a significant haul of young players and picks.
