Out played in the first, but played much better for the last forty minutes, what ever George said between periods was taken to heart. We were fortunate to be playing the most penalized team in the league 3/8 on the power play was the difference in the game. Congrats to Schnarr on his hat trick and Commisso's three helpers, a great pick up. We still need some upgrades, no need to flog a dead horse, we all know where. Thought Samourkov had a great game, a couple of thunderous checks and even though -1 stood out. Wooley's penalty, for checking to the head was bogus, a case of a bigger player finishing his check and a ref who reacted to a player (Pekar) not getting up quickly enough. We were rewarded with a goal during the power play from his silly penalty minutes later. Must win in Windsor tonite!
yup!Samorukov is underrated. He is our best D IMO.
hate to admit it but Torop is overated..IMO.. and toss in 6 ... merk the smirk in that list of availables..IMO..that is.....The first period against Barrie was brutal but it turned into a good game.
Commisso continues to show why he was a great pick up - his work on the PK was impressive.
Does Ratcliffe lead the league in PIMS? Not a good stat for a Captain.
In my opinion the following in addition to picks should be available to upgrade: 24, 20, 4, 7. Same with in goal. Who is the best defensive D likely to be available at the deadline? I'm not hearing a lot about D's on the market - in which case go for DiPi. Saigeon would be a good fit.
Ratcliffe/Saigeon/Schnarr
Ralph/Commisso/Toropchenko
Primeau/Hillis/Hawel
Stevenson/Kirwin/Collins

was plus one .. in game he had 4 assists... what does that say..one step forward anda 2 steps back.. cha cha..put him up front.. with a good D ready to cover for his common "mistakes"..he could be all time points up front..but in the hard core playoff heat.. (after they Figure him out)..the T E A M..if focussed on his highness is "done like dinner"..ie; the midget championship against Marlies..6-0.. I still see him as a poor D with attitude.. want to see him succeed though.. ....up front...or for some nice draft picks ...elsewhere..Can't believe I agree somewhat with you. Tropchenko hasn't showed a lot and I think drafting a Euro goalie might have been the move, but hard to drop a drafted player. Merkley on the other hand has matured and is showing much more desire this year. Motoring back when he makes a attack. Blocking shots and using his body to take opposition players out. He was +1 last night even tho double shifted a lot!
yyyyup!I think Wooley should have played more last night. Hanley and Merkley played over 30mins each last night and dont think thats a winning strategy moving forward. Merkley's offense will not override his poor effort on defense and compete.
Toropchenko... big fella lacks finish at end of rushes..better mates would help though. For those who think Toropchenko is underwhelming, or not performing. He is consistently being placed on a bottom six line but brings power from a top six perspective. He is always leading rushes and speeding through the zone with control. He isn't playing with the talent the top two lines are. I would like to see Toropchenko - Commisso - Collins with 21 being medically cleared to play and undoubtably a threat. He has a high ceiling and is a known shooter.
As for the offensive future. I expect something like this to be the line-up.
Ratcliffe - Hillis - Schnarr
Toropchenko - Commisso - Addition.
Bertuzzi - Hawel - Stevenson
Ralph - Kirwin - Collins
Subject to change, But I'd really like to see a prolific offensive star added to the line-up to give the team that X-factor that teams all need. One that shows up no matter what.
Obviously, a undisputed #1 Center would be perfect, but I doubt that we'll make a move for one.
Defensively, the future is probably something close to this.
Hanley - Merkley
Samorukov - Addition.
Woolley (or) Lalonde - Chayka/Terry
I see a defensive addition one of the more predictable moves coming on the forefront for the Storm. That solid defensemen that the Storm are missing who will complete the back six.
I don't see the Storm moving Woolley due to his eligibility for the next couple of years but I also don't see the Storm selling Lalonde due to the price-tag he came with. Although, something has to give in that respect. Chayka has earned his right to play this year out with Terry although, I suspect Chayka will be seeing a lot more playing time in comparison. He's the future of this club along with Collins.
As for Goaltending, there isn't going to be anything happening.
Popovich
Daws
Goaltending is a premium to afford, and with the odd flashes we see from both of these goaltenders, I doubt there's a move made, though it's always a possibility. Popovich is an OA next year and on top of that, just debuted a new mask last night.
Next year, there might be a shake-up at the goaltending though, with a significant portion of the team likely not returning including Samorukov and Toropchenko which opens up both Import Draft spots.
indeed "ohloutsider".;...but this is a higher up problem as well.. methinks..stubborn..stiffnecks at the highest levels...i smell another whoopin comin down from above fellers..like facebook eh?..hoooooooeeeee!I think the real problem in Guelph is the game has passed by the person that is making most of the decisions. They made 1 change in Flint and suddenly that team is 100% better? Look at the turn around in North Bay when somebody stepped away from the bench. It is a young man's game and it needs progressive thinking to keep it all moving. Also very old school to think 1 person can be a good coach and GM. Sorry about my rant - I will just move along now.
he did the game before.. thats his "Style ".. fancy ... and way over rated..SS were you watching or quoting the about thesame game? Yes Merk was +1, but didn't have 4 assists. One goal and one assist. Please get the facts straight.
eggzactly8 games in a row with a point, but we need to clean up in front of the net. To many second chances and people left alone at the side of the net.
turnovers are aplenty..not the baked kind..with Mr D usually either dawdling back or making me wonder what the H he was thinking.. and believe me it is totally demoralizing to a goalie.esp. combine with your point Cynical..I don't look for any really significant change though.. they'll play out the cycle on the key 16 draft.. it is what it is :..flashy but leaking badly.. prove me wrong then..some lesser talented teams have done amazing runs to the finish and won it all..I'll just bring my tums..buy the crappy coffee (overpriced).; and hope the Flash will carry the day..we need balance depth of TEAM engagement. I think the air is stale from the executive down; in need of some top down refreshing....8 games in a row with a point, but we need to clean up in front of the net.
