Hello Canuck fans, Blues fan coming in peace. I had a quick question about your goaltending. With Demko being ruled out for the start of the season is Silovs the starter? Also how long is Demko expected to be out? My fantasy team thanks you!

Sounds like Silovs will get game 01 but Lankinen will get a lot of starts too. First month is expected to be a tandem and if requires longer than that then whoever has been better will get more starts.

No one knows with Demko. He’s skating and taking shots but not participating in practice. No precedent for how long his recovery will be. I’d hazard a guess we won’t see him until late November/early December at the soonest.

I expect we will again win the

Which pundits are you talking about?

Everyone has the Canucks firmly in a playoff spot. Even Dom and his wacky model who hates the Canucks have them likely to finish 2nd in the division. Unless that's the fall off you're talking about?
What I'm seeing on podcasts is people saying the Canucks are a good team, probably 2nd in the division and pretty certainly a playoff team, likely to finish with about 100 pts. That would be a regression from 1st in the division and 109 pts.

If an optimistic soul had told any of us two years ago that predicting 100 pts and 2nd in the Pacific would be predicting that the team would be taking a step back, what % of us would have been laughing?

I created and deleted a list several times since it’s a little too early. I’ve been stumping for Vlad Gavrikov if the Kings falter. Weegar and Anderson are obvious candidates.
i vote for vlad gavirkov. 1yr left on his deal after this season. makes 5.8 and has an ntc. what would the kings want in return? forwards i assume

I prefer Povorov, I think the biggest weakness last year was when the preds and oilers sent 2 forecheckers against our D, none of our guys could move the puck out. He should only really cost like a 1st, maybe less?

i wouldnt have the balls to pull off a trade that saw Willander or Lekkerimaki move out unless it was for like a 24 or 25 year old top4d top6W, signed on till he's 30 at a below market rate .and that is very unlikely.
good thing im not GM ^.^

ahhhh idea... they're gona pump up Ratys stats and use him at the deadline instead of Willlander/Lekk

If Buchnevich hadn't re-signed with St. Louis, he was one of the few players I'd strongly consider moving either one of them for come the deadline. That's a guy Tocchet would love the moment he set foot in the building. Alas...

I kind of doubt either is on the table now unless it's a crazy deal we don't see coming. Willander is our only good defense prospect and he plays a premium position. He's about as untouchable as it gets. Lekkerimaki would be very closely behind him partly because he's good but also due to us needing cheap scoring options.

Ah yes. I see how you were using Hansen as a comparison now. As far as I saw personally Motte was never anywhere close to a 3rd liner except maybe on our crappy team. I don't see him as far superior to Aman at all. He's had a wee bit more personal success but Aman is also only entering his third year. As @kanucks25 mentioned Motte looks busier but his overall effectiveness isn't much different than Aman imo. Both kept the puck out of our net and added very little offence. I think both could be improved upon. Sherwood is better than both.

Maybe it's unfair but for me a 4th liner's success is partially tied to team success unless you're one of the few 4th liners that are universally sought after. They are the least skilled players on the team for the most part.

I would put forth that fourth liners are often products of their team, much like coaching. So yeah, I would say they are a dime a dozen and often success is based on situation, or it's a spot for developing players. Look at a guy like Klim Kostin, or even Lomberg from the Panthers last year. They can play a pivotal role as a fourth liner on a Cup team but are they surefire better options than others? I'm not so sure. It's not like a second line winger on a crappy team who still scores 35 goals. There is something tangible there to measure and pursue.

Performance of depth players can indeed be fickle.

Remember Schaller? When we signed him, IIRC most Bruins fans would have said he was a solid 4th liner but he was completely useless here and his NHL career ended shortly after. In reality he was likely never a surefire NHLer but just had one season where everything went right on a good Boston team.

Lafferty is another good example; first half of the season last year he was pretty much everything you'd want in a 4th liner and then he was a complete non-factor in the second half + playoffs.

How quickly some of these guys can go from "he's not bad I could see him being retained" to "yeah the sooner he's off the roster the better".
