How do we extend P3ttersson and for how much?!

If spending the big assets we need more than rentals.

Cap increasing by 9m and only Boeser to re-sign, he wont get a huge raise

If Hoglander goes the other way, that's nearly Marcus P's entire raise.

all 3 zones has zone entry and rush offense data for the canucks:

View attachment 932224

there's a lot more data i'm not going to post but other than quinn hughes and jt miller no one on the team is better than average at zone entries or zone clears

Some context is useful for the DZ retrievals and exits - Hughes and Hronek get a lot of offensive zone starts so it makes sense that they don't have as many clears.

Myers and Soucy get a ton of d-zone starts and so should have a bunch of clears but they are by far the worst on the team.

This data backs up what I've been seeing: Soucy sucks at moving the puck and just isn't even trying to. Myers is trying to do it but failing.

Tocchet's deployment choices are absolutely mind-boggling. Sure, it made sense to let them try to figure it out. But we're almost a quarter of the way into the season and they are just getting worse.

Feel like the PA will be more conservative. They finally got the net escrow down to 0%. Even a top up from the NHL from what I have seen. They’d want to ensure that any extra cap over the 5% increase will still result in a sub 1% net escrow.

Even if it isn't 9m, there's still tons of space

Soucy was rock-solid last season......but this year it's like his confidence has imploded.

Sort of mirrored his career in Seattle. Had stellar first season after being claimed by the Kraken from Minnesota in the expansion draft. But by the end of his second season, Seattle had cut him adrift.

Hope that isn't the pattern of his career--but you have to wonder.

It is a concern. I'd bet his exit rates weren't all that much better last season either though, but his partner Myers was playing considerably better. I would love to see how he'd do with Brannstrom. That would open up a hole on the 3rd pairing but if they can harness Brannstrom's excellent play and put Soucy in a position to succeed, they could have a double win.

The Canucks would do well to swing a trade for a depth left D. It's just pointless to keep Juulsen on the roster after Desharnais returns.

If he works out, I'd hope to pay his rise in term rather than dollar amount. Basically, offer him the same deal Tanev got from the Leafs: 4.5x6.

Of course, this assumes he works out first.

They’d have to take Desharnais too.

Nobody is taking Desharnais. Fortunately, if worse comes to worse, he's mostly buriable.

The only reason the Leafs were able to delay that payment with term is because Tanev was 34 when he signed it, Pettersson is like 28. He would be getting a 6+ year deal from every team in the league.

There's no way Hampus is available... right?

He's gone for months with a 'lower body injury'. Is Adam Jiricek in the lineup for Columbus.? He's a young d-man, a former first rounder, who's been linked to the Canucks.

Hoglander and a pick or Jiricek?

I still don't know why a team with contending aspirations would want a guy like Jiricek, who can't crack a developing team's roster in Columbus and is mad about it. Even tonight, he had 2:30 of ice time in the first. Do people really think Tocchet is going to be easier on him than Evason in Columbus?

If this were Vancouver 2 years ago, I'd consider it more heavily, but where the team is in it's cycle it's way too risky to be giving up assets for a guy who's a big question mark.

Vancouver's probably scouting Provorov and Carlo today, although I doubt Carlo would be available given his age. Lindholm remains my dream acquisition, but the injury puts a major dent in that dream.

I'm not particularly excited about either Carlo or Peeke, but Jiricek would be worth the gamble, the team seems like it needs help now.
