Thought the tidbits on Brannstrom were a little bit interesting. Mostly because there seems to be a feeling within the Canucks fandom that Brannstrom is a lock to remain on the roster all year. To me he's a guy they may look to upgrade on if they get a chance.

  • Unlikely to risk placing him on waivers in the short-term
  • Canucks now view him as of it’s top-8 defenders
  • Originally viewed as a cap throw-in
  • Isn’t sure if Brannstrom has secured a starting spot
  • Important that poor performances, like against Edmonton, don’t stack
  • The sense Drance gets is that there’s internal questions about his size
  • His overall competitiveness and transition ability has been noticed by management
  • NHL defencemen that aren’t big, mean, & defensively sound nor elite offense producers will always have a small margin of error

In my mind, it would be great to have Soucy and Myers as your 3rd pair.

Last year you had both Cole and Zadorov who could play Top 4 minutes in pinches if needed.

Desharnais, Forbort and Brannstrom cannot provide that (least currently).

So you almost want another LHD and RHD.

If so, one would likely be a pending UFA while the other has some term.

But that's alot to ask in the current market especially with limited assets to trade.

I really want to see what a Brannstrom-Hronek pairing can do - I think there's a strong chance they can play top 4 minutes. It seems that I like Brannstrom more than the current management group, though.
