If the Senators fall out of the playoff race, Giroux would be a very interesting target. That is the only type of deal they should be making for a forward. We need impact forwards or else no point of trading assets that need to be used to help the backend.

Colton Sissons is the guy on the Predators I'd be interested in. Local kid, right-handed centre, excellent at face-offs, signed for next season at 2.86m, no trade protection, physical, and a penalty killer. Has had an atrocious start to the season, is 31 years old, and just got hurt.

The only way I'm interested in Sissons is if Nashville buys him out this summer. Way too much money for what he brings.

Far more interested in Michael McArron - a 6'6 right-shot defensive C will anchor the 4th line nicely.

When you look at the Preds on Puckpedia, all I can say is, Yikes! They might have more 'untradeable contracts' than any team in hockey.

I just can't see anyone for the Canucks to even target on their roster, given their cap situation.

I would seriously lock up Lankinen on a new contract right now.I can see it now.Demko is good for 5 games then on the shelf again.

Impossible.

This is correct. As per the CBA section 50.5(f)(iv)

A Player who is party to a one-year SPC may not enter into an "extension"of such SPC prior to January 1 of the League Year covered by such SPC.

Stolarz got 2x2.5 in the summer, I’d offer something similar maybe add a year.

Duncan
This might be the case on this road trip but for basically all the games prior to that we looked awful defensively and were bleeding odd-man rushes and neutral zone space, and he's been the best player on the ice to steal multiple results so far this year.
When this edition of the team is playing well, their coverage is excellent; they seem to arrive along with the puck on the forecheck, leaving the opposition little time to make plays, or to develop any kind of offence. At best, the offence seems be one and done with the Canucks counter attacking quickly.

It hasn't happened too frequently, but they're beginning to link together longer periods of this kind of play and that bodes very well for the season. I'm surprised they're not struggling more given the roster turn over.

Based on Lankinen's experience last off season I suspect he's going to insist on getting a bit of a bag on this next contract. It makes me think we probably won't be able to sign him to a team friendly deal like the one you are using as a comparable.

A contract extension for Tocchet????

With the PP being terrible since Feb? No thanks. Fix it or beat it
The PP at this point is a reflection of the personnel and not Tocchet.

Are you willing to abandon and ignore every single goddamn good thing Tocchet has done for this club by making us a respectable opponnent again, instilling quite possibly the best structure of work environment, drive, and compete this club has had since AV?

Again Giroux is not going anywhere, signed there to retire. Same with Tuch until atleast his contract expires if the Sabres keep going backwards.

I think it's closer to 4x4 if not more, maybe, maybe they can sell him on the obvious path to lots of games & wins on a contender he chose himself and do like 5×3.5M. No matter what demko is taking a bit of a shave if he wants to stay with this core unless his unicorn injury (+hip concerns) dissappears and he returns to top form.

Uhhhh, what?

You'd fire a top-5 coach in the NHL and defending Jack Adams winner who has done almost everything perfectly since he's arrived, because the PP is currently 16th?

Tocchet should be getting an extension ASAP and it will be one of the biggest coaching contracts in the NHL, as it should be.

Excellence should be expected when you’re earning these types of salaries.

Why should you pay somebody 3-4-5 million dollars when theirs such a large deficiency in their work?

Our PP was 12th last year and 16th this year in a 32-team league. It's not a 'major deficiency'.

Most of the struggles are also due to the fact that Pettersson has been a boat anchor there for the last 50 games.

That would mean Petey not scoring on the PP is a result of Tocchet then.

You take people as a whole. He does so much right for this team it would be dumb to let him walk after building an identity for this group who were completely lost before he arrived.

There's a far better chance they figure out rhe PP issues under Tocchet than they manage to pluck another top coach from the available candidates.

I think the PP issues are mostly related Pettersson struggling. I also don't think this team is really as skilled as they think they are.

Seems like you’re prescribing the wrong treatment for the diagnosis.

It’s a result of both of them from what I see.

Like any organization people are allowed to work on things they struggle with. This isn’t an overnight PP that stinks. It’s 10 months and has cost us games and possible a playoff series.

At some point both EP and Tocchet have to work on the things they’re struggling with or you have to move on from them. Do you just accept a 11.6 million dollar 40 point player or a 3-5 million dollar coach whose team can’t score on the PP?

Did you guys forget the games we had 2 - 3 shots a period? How can you justify that type of performance. That falls on the coaching staff and players.

Saying we should fire Rick Tocchet because we have a middling PP is like saying we should trade Quinn Hughes because he's mediocre on the PK. It's absurd.

We've been a top-5 team in the NHL since the start of last year and are one of the best-coached teams in the NHL. And in, like, 35+ years of following the team, this is one of only 3 periods (Quinn 1991-94, Vigneault 06-12) where we've had above-average coaching. Elite coaching is f***ing hard to find.
