Almost every team in the league would crawl a mile over broken glass for the opportunity to trade their two best prospects for EP.

Miller apparently had very little value back when he had two playoff runs for 5.25 mil and was insane value for that money.

Why he had that little value will forever be a mystery to me other than @Vector's patented "most GM's are stupid", but it's unlikely he has more value than that now as a slumping 32 year old signed until 2030 with a NMC.

if anyone wants a glass half full take:

we'd have to be giving out two more insanely risky, retirement deals on top of miller's 32-37 year seasons and potentially lock ourselves into a really meh situation w demko brock as well.

there's legitimate outs and an opportunity to get younger here. can avoid the brock retirement deal to a rly slow skater who's been inconsistent since the tdl last year, and not have to pay a goalie - or at the very least, kick the can down the road further there.

maybe they do somehow parlay assets into byram and another young f or two and now you've extended a window to compete rather than the one where they likely had to win over the next 3 years (incl this one)

yeah there's the elephant in the room of how your 11.6 million dollar center it's mentally fragile and has played like a 2c for a full year now but meh, im glass half fulling to cope rn

The refusal of most teams to acquire Miller was strange. It was during a flat cap and in the middle of a changing of the GM guard. Even though he’s signed long term and still carries issues, teams have convinced themselves that his personal problems are because he’s “too alpha” and a rising cap makes his contract easier to absorb.

But mostly, GMs be dumb as hell.

It's really irritating that this all should have been done ahead of the 2023 draft and was clearly foreseeable at that time.

We should have had 3 or 4 top ~20 picks in the 2023 draft and we'd probably be in as good or better of a position with the active roster.
That year gutted me as a fan. I mean, you would think I’d be used to all the meaningless wins at the end of the season. The ‘moral’ victories. But that was kind of the last straw. And with a North Van super fan at the top of the draft… I’ve been apathetic ever since.

This core was done in 2021 when Petey was staring off into space while the team celebrated a win. And Miller was gliding around on back checks and to the bench after shifts. And two veterans who came from winning teams couldn’t wait to get out of here.
