Cheaper acquisition cost I would add here: Zadorov and M. Samuelsson

Allvin has been average. There have been good moves on his part but there has also been some unforced errors. They got out of the Mikheyev and Kuzmenko contracts without too much damage. The biggest error so far was thinking Desharnais and Forbort would round out our defense.

We needed above average GMing and stupid luck to really change this franchises fortunes around. It's a bit of an ask considering no GM will bat a hundred.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, if NJD has no leverage.

I still don't think Nemec would be a good fit though, with Willander incoming and Hronek/Myers signed longer term. We need a Top 4 LD.

It's hard to imagine that they'd trade Boeser unless they were giving up on the season and starting to reposition for 2025/26. If so, a top 4 LHD might not be the top priority; and after Willander we have no legitimate RHD prospects.

They’re talking about Boeser. Management already said they need more from him.

Also, did Cam say Hughes or did Taj just add that.

I don’t think Allvin are co are doing a poor job at all. I said when JR was hired, it’ll take a miracle to get this team anywhere. My expectations have been exceeded for the most part, even including the hiccups.

I’m not saying anyone is pointing fingers wrongly, I’m just saying the cap situation he inherited was brutal. Any hope milked beyond that feeling of helplessness are cherries.

Cap situation was brutal, no prospects, weak depth, a miracle to get this team anywhere, but re-tool quick...?

JR/Allvin have done about as well as anyone could have reasonably expected. It's just that a 2~ year re-tool was an absurd strategy given their starting position. Both things can be true: He can be competent with transactions on his way to facilitating an incorrect plan.

Ruthervin has exceeded my expectations and I still have zero issues with the entire management team, it's easily top tier in the league.

Tocchet & Co I'm starting to lose confidence, juulsen obsession, and the team looking more and more like the Arizona Coyotes, and everyone but Hughes regressing, starting to look a bit sus..

I said at the time that I would have rather allocated some combo of the Myers (especially) + Forbort + Desharnais cap dollars into a better defenseman. I will take the L though, I didn't think Allvin's approach was that bad and figured they could muddy along until he was able to make an in-season upgrade (though the various injuries and guys playing through injuries are what largely derailed that plan).

I mean, if Allvin had went out and paid the (very cheap) price for Kovacevic people like myself and @Vector had been talking about for 18 months, the blueline problem would largely have been mitigated.

I said at the time too, I personally would have matched the Leafs obvious LTIRetirement circumvention contract on Tanev to get him back to stabilize the blueline.

But in the end, given what we saw from Soucy last season, I thought Hughes-Hronek-Soucy and whatever else they had would be fine until they could make an in-season trade. It ended up being a lot worse than I thought.
Allvin spend to much time chasing after Guentzel when he should have spent that time signing Zarodov. In his back pocket had a deal for Myers because Myers did want to stay and take a pay cut.But never should have got a ntc.We had to settle for garbage defense afterwards.

I'm not put off of our coaching or our management either. I'd like Tocchet to be more offensive, and I'd like Allvin and Rutherford to address the D - would have liked it to have happened in the off-season - but all have done enough good since coming here (and multitudes better than the previous idiotic regime) to have earned some grace for me. And it's bigger than this season. Much as I'd like instant gratification, I'm more concerned with addressing needs to be better for the future.

I still hope we are able to make some moves to shore up the back end, because I do think this team can be great with a good blueline. And I'd like to see that.

I think people generally overstate any criticism of management as a full condemnation.

They've executed their plan well. They just need to adjust it.

PA has been pretty spot on with acquiring players and decision making. He’s probably been the most active GM in the past 2 years.

His biggest blunders imo have been Mikheyev signing (wouldn’t have been so bad if he didn’t get injured) and playing hardball on Zadorov and then subsequently signing Forbort and Desharnais.

Overall, i would take that anyday when you compare that to all the positives. Most importantly, when decisions are made - you can atleast see the logic behind it, even if it doesn’t turn out well. Whereas with Benning, sometimes you were like huh, what? why?

Zadorov deal is still an overpayment for what he is, as BOS is finding out.

Chasing Guentzel was the right call - he was the only real "star" player on the market, a needle-mover.

He shouldn't have signed Myers + one of Forbort/Desharnais and reallocated those cap dollars on a different player.

We should have seen this season coming......they're simply nowhere near as good as their record last season.

Everybody who had a 'career year'. Boeser, Miller, Pettersson, Demko, Joshua and even bottom-of-roster guys like Blueger and Suter, but have all landed with a thud this year--either through injury or mediocre performance.

In his time, Benning traded far too many picks for other team's failed prospects. This current regime has traded too many picks to try and get out from under bad contracts; or to add at the deadline. But the result has been the same.

If you throw out the COVID season, this team has made the playoffs just once since 2014....and that was last year's outlier season. If you're a lottery team constantly coughing up draft picks--you're going to be in the wilderness for a long time.

My gut feeling is that Hughes is growing up and has called Miller out on something and he's not used to that and petterson could simply be what he was called out on

I dont think the issue is between miller and pettersson

Not trade related but what are the last 3 really high skilled/creative goals the a canucks player scored off the rush.

Watching highlights and theirs so many dynamic scorers in the NHL and it makes me realize how boring we are to watch

Wonder if Aquilini asked Mason to put him on blast?

Miller looks like a guy expecting to be traded.

Maybe he did? Aquilini sees the empty seats, which also leads to lower concession and in arena merchandise sales, and still has to pay the players in U.S. dollars despite the slumping Canadian dollar, and perhaps he feels the need to prepare the fans who have been showing up, and chanting Miller's name, for an eventual parting of the ways. Or maybe not. lol

ferraro laying it out for his wife’s team LOL

“Right now we are past the midpoint and 50 days to the trade deadline

If you are hovering around 25 mins or more I would consider you competitve “

What’s Vancouver at? 19 wins?
1st wildcard is 27 wins

I'd want more from Buffalo given Nemec is still on his ELC next and Byram is a pending RFA this year.

Be looking at one of Buffalo's young forwards. Open to adding if it means you get someone of substance (i.e. Kulich).
It's a difficult trade to figure out. I don't think Boeser is worth Byram + other than maybe a 3rd round pick or B prospect.
