Big difference between 11 and 12 haha:

I like the idea at $11.45M, but wonder if NJ just matches at that. While above that is terrifying - four years of picks from this team that we're seeing such a year over year decline from could just be Phil Kessel - Tyler Seguin part 2... and up to x4
A team that is not making the playoffs should never be trading their 1sts. Unless a fantastic deal comes along. We are not "one" player away from fixing this team. And giving up multiple picks that easily could be in the lottery the next 2 - 3 years is asinine.

Okay hear me out.

Offer sheet Luke Hughes 11-12M.

1. NJ makes a tough decision whether to match.
2. Makes it extremely harder for them to sign Quinn in 2 years especially when Jack will command a 14-15M+ contract in 4 years.
3. If NJ doesn’t match, you guarantee Quinn stays and you have a Quinn-Luke pair for the next decade.
4. Luke won’t be “worth” his contract for the first few years but eventually he will be. He’s a stud top 2 dman and already a better defender than Quinn at the same age.
5. ????????
6. Profit
Luke's not signing here. Quinn is probably telling his brother to block any calls from Allvin/Rutherford.

All three will be in NJ in a couple years.

I am sure I am in the minority here but I do not want the Canucks to trade Brock, even for a first round pick (assuming, of course, that he agrees to terms on a reasonable contract). It would be foolish to assume that Lekk can simply step in and score those goals and play at Brock's level in all aspects. The moment we trade him is the moment we will be looking to replace him. The team needs to make some changes (preferably in the off-season unless amazing offers materialize before then) but should NOT go full rebuild. Hughes is simply too good to waste and far too often rebuilding teams never get better (Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, etc). Minor surgery rather than major surgery.

I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to accept a full rebuild but, if I were, I could make the argument.

Demko is 29! That seemed to happen overnight. Miller soon to be 32.

The only player I would hold on to for sure is Hughes.
Possibly hold on to Pettersson unless they can get a serious return for him.

Everyone else should be actively on the block. That includes Garland simply because he could likely fetch a decent return: Miller, Boeser, Garland, Joshua (only because he's already 28), Demko, Debrusk, and Hronek. For these players they should be able to get decent prospects + picks. Get what they can for Hoglander and Soucy.

The goal would be to emerge in 2.5 years for the 27/28 season with Hughes signed long term (hopefully he sees enough progress to sign but it is a risk). Pettersson will still be in his prime with term on his contract. All other contracts would have been dumped or have expired by then. OELs 2 highest buyout years will be behind them. Willander and Lekkerimaki will have had 2+ years to develop.

Worry not about winning for this and the next two seasons, achieving 3 top 10 picks, and operating well below the cap. Acquire as many prospects and picks during this period.

With ample cap space they would then be buyers in free agnecy in the summer of 27.

Easy peasy.

Garland would have some real value. Probably a 2nd and a good prospect? He’s on a great contract.

Boeser would be easy to move. But hard to replace.

Suter would get probably a 3rd or slightly better.

Forbort and Juulsen maybe 5th ish type value.

Allvin needs to start the process here soon.

Just wait to the TDL and go full throttle.

This team is on a downward trajectory.

Wait it out and see if teams come around to the ask then.

If no deal with Brock, he has to go as well.

It will be a sellers market then and mgmt needs to take advantage.

The decision to keep Miller was rumoured to be due to NYR changing the parameters of the deal.

Thus far, the only indication Aquilini has stepped in is the Mason tweet, which still leaves the potential for a pre-deadline move intact.

I never stated it would be straight up. BOS would have to retain to at least $7m AAV (Allvin's last AAV offer to Lindholm) and have a very good asset along with, like a 1st rounder. That's the basis for a deal with BOS.

lindholm is awful. no deal there

Ottawa Senators
  • Wonders if Travis Green looks at the Canucks and believes he can handle JT Miller; doesn’t think this would happen
  • Looking for connections and sees the Senators struggling to score and thought about that on Thursday
J.T. Miller
  • Not likely willing to go to another Canadian team
  • Has heard he prefers Eastern USA destinations
Carolina Hurricanes
  • Have been on Pettersson and Miller; have permission to talk to Miller
  • There is more than just those two targets; are looking at the entire market
  • Haven’t been able to nail down who they are after
  • Has heard they’ve been out there looking
Vancouver Canucks
  • Thursday was a disheartening game for the Canucks
  • Was shocked that the Oilers scored one goal and the Canucks just never got back into the game
  • Is bothered by how much abuse Hughes is taking; is getting roughed up a lot more than his teammates are giving the other team’s stars

Why the heck would they want to trade Hoglander right now? If he has any value at all, it is miniscule. We have seen what he can do in the past. If they are trading others, the team will have plenty of cap space. The Canucks should keep Hoglander. With the season going down the crapper, give him a chance to either rebuild his value or become an important piece for this team.

Allvin seems to get way too enamored with certain players. He got Lindholm last season in which was a player he was apparently pushing for but a lot of time and wasted energy was thrown at Jake Guentzel. Being so obsessed with Guentzel at last years deadline Allvin totally missed out on smaller pieces to make the C.....

You made this mess Allvin, time to fix it.

what r u talking about? fan chatter does not equal gm's actual activity.

and blaming a gm for two immature players and a fan base/media that spins conjecture (see above) is interesting

Folks are still so used to uncle Jimbo who had zero poker face and you could tell the players he liked and wanted. When it came to hyper focusing on a player and running out of time that was all him.

That's not the guys running the team now.

Lots of reports this morning (Dhali, LeBrun) that the Canucks are still exploring a Pettersson trade, which is ... not surprising.

Shades of Gillis pivoting to dealing Schneider when the offers for Luongo didn't materalize.

And just like when the Leafs had Darren Dreger working his damndest to artificially deflate the market on Luongo at that time, the other talking heads are doing the same for Miller right now.

Miller unlikely to go to another Canadian team.

Sweet Jesus.

This is where we are at in "reporting".

Man, the total paralysis of the org is quite pathetic to witness.

One small move I'd like to see is Sammy Blais get an NHL contract. He's put up 12 points in 16 AHL games, you have to think he's ready to play a mean, physical 4th line role over guys like Sasson or PDG. He'd at least run a guy.

This is a more low-key issue this year, but I'm not sure what they're doing with the call-ups from the farm.
