Canucks wanted Shea Theodore, but the Ducks said 'no' and then lost him to Vegas in the expansion draft anyway.

If Benning had held out like he should have, Theodore could have changed the entire dynamics of the Kesler trade. But ancient history, I guess.
That's not true. Everything was on the table from the ducks besides their 10th overall pick. Benning chose Sbisa over other defenders.

Stars & Wild? Great, the only thing worse than moving him East, and having no one to deal with the big forwards in conference, would be to add him to the list.

There are two big issues here with a Miller trade. He has a 'no-trade' contract and the list of teams he'd be willing to go to is small from the get-go. And obviously that list doesn't include any potential lottery teams.

The market is further restricted by the fact that contending teams don't want to gut their lineups to acquire Miller. And trade partners are further constrained because most of those teams are up against the salary cap.

So not only does Allvin have to get back something approaching 'equivalent value', he also has to somehow make the numbers work.

A blockbuster involving Miller is still possible, I guess. But the odds are stacked against it.

And later they extended Sbisa. After watching him.

How is that even conceivable???
We don't need to rehash... but that was the first crack where I started to side eye Benning.

I expect the Canucks will make a Hronek like move to work around this. Get a futures based return from a contender, turn around and find a younger player they like and use the futures to get him.

We really do.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat being Benninged, a fate worse than the eternal destruction of one's soul.

As long as there is a Canucks franchise, the truth needs to be told, so young canucks fans barely out of diapers learn to quiver in dismay at the hushed whisper of that besmirched name, and the forces of evil that enabled that reign of error.

I'm relieved to hear they've seemingly pivoted to a possible futures type deal and aren't just giving him away. Granted, it's only a small comfort because we don't know what Allvin/Rutherford deem as "giving away".

At the same time, can we just go back to kissing and making up? Just by the boys some rounds and say you'll chill out a little, Miller. Please?

Same for me. I actually defended the Kesler deal because he did pretty much screw Benning by openly demanding to go to either Anaheim or Chicago. And I really didn't think there was any chance Anaheim included Theodore.

But re-signing Sbisa and the Hamhuis idiocy was when it really became apparent he was a buffoon. Allvin is approaching "strike one" territory, but we'll see what the return is.

Allvin's strike one for me already happened. Letting Zadorov and Cole go and replacing them with Desharnais and Forbort. Going into the season with this brutal defense should or could count as a strike.

Creating this whole Miller debacle or publicly calling out Pettersson could potentially count as strikes aswell depending on how you view it.

Allvin has been a good gm but certainly hasn't been perfect this season, far from.

yeah that's my impression of him.

IMO if/once we get Pettersson from Pitts and Willander arrives here, our defensive outlook will change quick.

Much more interested in Unger Sorum, and Nadeau from Carolina.

Have you had a chance to watch Artamonov?

I haven't, but his numbers stand out for a 19 yr old in KHL.

I haven’t seen him
I only know NCAA prospects as that’s what I only watch in terms of prospects

Interesting to see what prospects this organization goes after.

He does but he’s not a full on rumours guy. Kind of like Travis Yost at TSN. Everyone once in a while drops something.
he's definitely started to take more stabs at things and it's been at a decent rate but yeah, still not someone i look at reliably

first w saying carolina isn't in involved right after dhali said they were

like if sat or dhali say something, you know someone high up is telling them

and even though you have to make some logical deductions about what to trust within that, you still know it's good info

w cam it might be from someone tertiary and further removed. not saying he doesn't have good sources, but yeah, there's levels to the insider stuff

which he's absolutely trying to lean into. seemed to try and capitalize a bit on the changes to x w verification and getting his name to the forefront. he's a nice guy tho

That was the moment I got on the fire Benning wagon.

I also remember that when the Gudbranson trade broke, I was the 2nd caller on Donny & Moj show and myself along with the first caller both panned the trade as awful - which somehow the hosts found shocking. Then they had Bill Watters (IIRC) on the show who called it a "home run" for Vancouver.
