Grub's Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Roll with the Changes

I imagine the Hurricanes would want to keep any trade if something would materialize. I don’t think that’s the case given the wording of them choosing Rantanen over Miller or Pettersson.

Could do something like Miller & Hoglander for Hall, Roslovic, and picks + prospects.
yeah certainly the way the Friedman and other insiders worded it - certainly make it sound like it was either JT/Petey or Rantanen and Carolina chose Rantanen.

Who knows though, maybe a week or so later Carolina realizes they really can do all in and come back to the canucks and offer a bunch of prospects (like your deal) for Miller.

agreed, if anything I rather get back taylor Hall than Kotkaniemi in a Miller trade.

Kotkaniemi is wildly inconsistent and Montreal/Carolina has been waiting for years for him to turn his game around. Turnarounds rarely turn.

I almost view him as a negative asset. Hall at least is on an expiring contract.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Miller for Hall, + bunch of prospects and 1st back trade
I agree on Kotkaniemi. But looking at Carolinas cap structure it makes sense for them. Even if they were to acquire Miller and Demko, and signing Rantanen to 14mil.. with dumping Kotkaniemi in the deal they would then have 18million ish for Nishkin, a 3rd pairing D and 4 bottom six players next year

Canucks also would desperately need a center in the mean time as they would likely be dealing suter/bleuger as well and jk can eat minutes at the very least. Of course id want one of the prospects to be Nadeau if thats the case

Man this organization has to stop letting these trade talks that didn’t go through from leaking

There won’t even be a team of this keeps happening

Pettersson is too mentally fragile to answer these rumors

Adding Miller's $8m/yr would make it a bit more difficult to re-sign Rantanen...unless they've already decided he's strictly going to be a rental.

If we had traded Pettersson for Necas and Kotkaneimi (+ a prospect if the rumors were true)) last Feb/March when that deal was on the table, we'd have had no additional cap space for Zadorov or anyone else...the cap savings would have been ~$300k.

It would have also probably resulted in deafening criticism (initially anyway). Pettersson was top 10 in scoring (between Marner and Draisaitl) and Necas and Kotkaniemi were both having down years. who knows how they'd have responded in Vancouver....or Pettersson in Carolina, but the overwhelming sentiment at the time was "thank god he signed because Necas and Kotkaneimi suck"
You're injecting Kotka into the deal which is probably one of the reasons it would have broken down if they were serious and not just using it as a tactic.

There were a few different versions...Necas Morrow...Necas Drury....Necas Jarvis (dreaming) Necas Blake.

I guess there were lots who were "thank god" but not me. I would have only echoed that if KK was coming here. Never been a fan and the contract is junk

Would heavily depend on how they feel about re-signing Rantanen, I would imagine.

Avs probably didn’t give permission to Canes to talk to Rantanen about an extension. You can’t give out a 1st rounder when you don’t have certainty that he will extend.
Maybe the Avs know that Rantanen is dead set on going to UFA.

There are reports that Rantanen had no idea this was going to happen and was “blindsided” by this trade.
the question i have is why the canuck negotiations with the canes were so widely leaked and the avs negotiations silent.

If they’re talking about Petey, I wonder if they circle back to Buffalo, who had interest. Canucks seem really keen on Bowen Byram.

Also wonder if they move on from Demko, do they get a goaltender back in the deal to backup Lankinen? Or do they try to work with Silovs?

I didn't do all the math for Carolina, but Hall at 6, Orlov, 7.75, Burns, 5+, they do have some expiring deals, if Nikishin is as good as they wish, should be able to come in and play like a top 4 on an ELC.

Iguess it would depend how much the cap goes up. But just eyeballing their cap, doesn't look impossible.

Buffalo has the best pieces for a transitioning team like us IMO.

So.....Miller, Boeser and Demko are all rumoured to be open to be moved.

Woof.

This would have been surprising last year, except for Boeser, for whom I think the writing has been on the wall: The offers and his ask were going to be irreconcilable for a while.

Given what's going on this season, though, not surprising at all. Boeser is a pending UFA looking for something around max term at serious dollars, which he probably won't get here. Miller's situation is well-known at this point, and Demko is probably looking at the possibility of playing for a better team that doesn't allow a billion high-danger chances against per game to try and recoup at least some of the contract value he's lost due to his injury heading into a big free agency year for him.

They've got 1sts and centers, pressure to win, and the tilt to prove it. It's the most natural fit for JT.

I would imagine Buffalo is at the top of JT's no move.
They don't have any 1sts this year...Mittelstadt isn't high on my list so its just a few prospects and I'm sure they are probably loathe to trade them...personally I'm looking elsewhere, but options seem slim at the moment.

Not necessarily for Miller.
