What’s up with CBJ and their allergy toward high end potential
nobody is going to offer cbj a big piece with potential unless the big piece also has issues. so they have the choice between whatever damaged goods they get offered or a package deal of lesser assets.
Probably because nobody wants to give them that 1 big piece.
Yeah so Hog + D Petey or something was not gonna get it done whatsoever... Unless you think Hog is worth a 1st + 2nd which is obviously not the case
Was what they got a big piece? They got a lot… but not any great piece imo.
Also Jiriceck is still a projectCanucks definitely could've got it done for one of their Abbotsford D + 1st round pick, but then if Jiricek didn't work out they wouldn't have much left to acquire an impact D man. I can see why Allvin would be hesitant to match that Minnesota offer (even though its still relatively poor value for a 6th overall pick from 2 years ago).
Terrible development and asset management by Columbus.
Exactly. Canucks would be putting all their eggs in the Jiricek basket by giving up a first + Kudryavtsev/Pettersson which would be quite the gamble for the competitive window of this team. I would rather they spend the assets on more of a known asset such as Marcus Pettersson. Also Jiriceck is still a project
Rather go for someone who’s more developed
The 1st is the biggest piece and worth more on its own than the packages that were being offered here.
So they did go quantity over quality but that quantity was still better than scraps.
Yeah that 28th pick is huge… I mean our first would have been worth much more than it.
Hoglander + D Petey is not our 1st.
This was 1st + 2nd + D Petey.
And we'll see where that Minny pick lands.
Yeah, and what will Pettersson’s next contract look like?Exactly. Ah I see the confusion, my brain didn’t brain. Rasmus Andersson.lol wut. JTM is a multiple season 100 pt 1st line center whereas Andersson plays in (checks notes) Switzerland. Soucy is far less valuable than Trochek and Willander is far more valuable than Cuylle. This comparison fails on every level.
Jiricek can’t cut it on a lottery team and sounds like a complete twit.Classic quantity over quality, I'm surprised no other team beat this offer but also cbj could've done worse I guess
Jacket clearly wanted to cut bait on him and move on. People need to move off the 6OA mindset. Plenty of top 10 picks have not panned out and moved. After 2 full seasons of pro teams have a bit more feel on jiricek. This is a dealt that makes a massive amount of sense for the Wild. Don’t really have the cap space to get reinforcements that require a 1st, can insulate Jiricek, and the 2nd is two years away.
I don’t like the return for the Blue Jackets but there wasn’t a straight prospect swap available. They’ve mismanaged the relationship for two straight seasons and got stuck in a had spot.
For the Canucks, I have always contended that he doesn’t make sense for the Canucks at what Columbus wanted from them.
Rasmus Anderssson of the Calgary Flames? Is this a 3-way trade of some sort?Ah I see the confusion, my brain didn’t brain. Rasmus Andersson.

Yeah, that would be a crazy risky bet for us to make. Willander will be here like march, there is no reason to put all our assets on a guy like Jiricek. If we spend our 1st and 2nd and prospects on 1 player, that player needs to be 100% a top6 forward or a 2nd pairing D.VAN has to be smarter about their allocation of assets.
Yup. VAN paid something similar (arguably less) for Zadorov and Lindholm than what Minnesota just paid for Jiricek alone.
And right now, VAN needs to make two acquisitions of that ilk if they want to properly support this core this year. Can see how they got priced out of a move here.
Seems clear they're trying to spend what they did last year, but avoid doing so for pure rentals unless it's really cheap.
Hoglander + a 3rd + 1st + 2nd + DEP/Mynio/Kudryavtsev for Jiricek and Marcus Pettersson sounds like a lot that doesn't move the needle enough for the team, imo
The limited assets the Canucks have will need to be used to make moves that will help them this season and next. There's too much risk involved in acquiring Jiricek when there's a pretty decent chance he busts and never plays meaningful minutes in the NHL.Yeah, and what will Pettersson’s next contract look like?
The idea behind Jiricek was young, and cost controlled. And the return was underwhelming, as expected.
No one thinks Jiricek was going to jump in and play at Pettersson level. But the idea is that in say 2-3 years, he could be a top 4 guy, and we would have his prime years.
Talk about the competitive window all you want, but we can’t afford to waste picks on rentals and older players that we can’t retain.
