There are no guarantee's of anything.

Winning is not guaranteed.

Willander is not a guaranteed difference maker, neither is Jiricek but plays in the NHL now and the other has yet to.

The thread is so is overly hopeful or convinced that these prospects will not only make the team but bump players off the line up that the other side of the coin should be considered.

Jiricek CAN play in the NHL NOW. His problem is salaries and CBJ defence depth

Hughes has not bought a house here and jets home to be with his brothers and family every off season.
Vancouver is not the best city for anonymity. AND if the team doesn't win consistently playing for NJ might look pretty good, players are not chattel, as pointed out with Miller they can choose to do things. If the team takes a step back this year, IMO they were never going to be as good this year after the summer dealings, would it not be a "human" thing to want to go to a team playing with your brothers, closer to home with a better chance of winning the cup?
By the time his contract comes due if has not had more than 2 winning seasons during his time here is it not possible, as a human, that he might move on?

Management should be considering those possibilities and planning ahead, not like Benning who ran out of time.

This opinion is based on the way the group is now, Boeser could be traded and a couple of top six prospects come back, or they trade for first and get lucky in the lottery or they really suck due to injuries etc and get a top pick

It is closer to know what you have when there is already examples.
Lekkerimaki, needs to get stronger to play Tocchet hockey, a couple of seasons? One more?

Canucks need defence upgrades, Jiricek would be an upgrade, without a doubt and cap control.

As an example, not even Demko knows how he will come back for sure and doubt has been expressed by a few media shows that he comes back at all.

If it helps, would it be a good idea at the draft if the Canucks could move up to #6?

Rare breed? They just traded a RHD that got 92 points in the OHL. Willander is not standing out in the NCCA east conference, there is a 17yr old he partners with, Sascha Boumedienne that might be better on his team.
There is alot of talk about Sawyer Mynio 's defensive prowess. Both him and Jiricek have been compared to Tanev.
Side question , did you have a CDC account back in the day? I think I distinctly remember a poster with the user The Guardian with similar writing style.

Would need to dig up old articles by A. Portzline on how Jiricek was handled by the previous CBJ management, but it was bunch of press box combined with telling him to get a home from columbus and then sending him down to AHL. Sure, he is a bit of an arrogant person so maybe the tough love was warranted but you can imagine being in a losing team that handles things like that with brad larsen as their travis green.
Jarmo got fired in mid Feb. That was likely around the 55-60 game mark of the season give or take. GM and HC need to be on the same page. Very odd to tell a kid to get a place unless they have established themselves as a regular.

Always wondered where AHL guys stay in Van when they get the call up. Do they simply crash at a teammate's place or do they have to cover the cost of a hotel? Assume team has a connection with a property management company that allows them access to Executive rentals for Lindholm/Zadorov type acquisitions mid-season who need a place for a couple to few months.

Jiricek was sent to AHL Cleveland at the end of training camp but was recalled to Columbus after the season opener. In November, he was pulled aside by Kekäläinen and told to “get a place” in Columbus, which is always a big moment for a young player.

Less than a week later, however, Jiricek was sent back to the AHL to play for a weekend before he was quickly recalled to Columbus.

It appeared that the same path was being followed earlier this month when Jiricek was sent to Cleveland after his three healthy scratches in Columbus. But after flying with the club to Edmonton for the start of their road trip, he was again a healthy scratch.

“In November, I started looking for an apartment in Columbus,” Jiricek said. “The dream was coming true.”

Now he’s living in a Cleveland hotel while his Columbus apartment sits empty, he said.
This snippet was on the athletic on Jan 28th. In the same article he is expecting pp time and regular ice after one season in cleveland because his draft peers are getting that opportunity at the time.

Jarmo was their Jim, and Larsen/Vincent their Willie/Green. Oh and the babcock disaster happened before last season too

Abbotsford is an hour or two away. Why would they need a new place?

From Reddit?

It was supposed to happen within a couple of hours pending a physical, but then Dan Cloutier came out of nowhere and hit Columbus' GM with his sportscar. The long rumored Hodgson for Perry swap happened at the CAN Pro-Am, proving the old adage of "better late than never". Dave Nonis tried to enter the chat offering up Schneider, Kesler and a pick for Brad Richards, but he decided not to once he heard that Marion Gaborik was buying a house in Kitsilano. I heard this all from by BBQ Salesman, who knows a guy who posts on Reddit.

My source confirms this to be the case. I have to withhold his identity but can say his username rhymes with Hector.

The trade for a defenseman is gonna be so out of left field we are all gonna be looking at Jiricek, Matheson or Anderson and BOOM we are gonna end up with Noah Dobson or Josi
I can’t imagine how friggin exciting it just be to open up Christmas presents at the Allvin house

Concur with others, Jiricek isn't the move for us. I'm also not big on D who don't seem to read the game especially well and are slow but 'toolsy'. Not saying he won't be good, but those aren't attributes I bet on.

I would be apoplectic if we dealt Willander for him, but I think there's no chance.
