The Hoglander extension was one of the few moves this management group has made that was an immediate head scratcher, especially given Tocchet has never really been a big fan of his.

Lekkerimaki straight up or with a small add for Jiricek could make sense, but only if the team feels they can lock up Boeser to a reasonable extension.

The Hoglander extension made immediate sense to me because A) They locked up a high ES scorer before he had the chance to inflate his salary further in season (See Horvat) and B) He does what Tocchet wants half the time: Aggressive F1 forecheck. If he provides that most of the time, he's a mainstay. He's not doing it and is now lost because of it, but he'll get back there.

This is the same contract methodology I had hoped they would take with Boeser, but they chose not to and will pay more because of it.

I would also be hesitant to give up Lekkerimaki for Jiricek. You have Willander in house, but this team will be hard pressed to get a high upside forward beyond what it already has for the next 2-3 years. Lekkerimaki provides that potential.

Aside: They should have kept Podkolzin if they were not going to keep Sprong as a spare imo. Bains and Raty don't seem to be taking that next step so Podkolzin was safe here.

Tomasino would be a decent gamble at the TDL. Thought he was a trade candidate for Podkolzin before the team signed Sprong. Defense is suspect though.

That would mean a bigger trade for CBJ, not us
No, I mean that there's probably some combination of trades to be made where a 1st+prospect is enticing to CBJ but not another team that has a player the Canucks are targeting. So you acquire the 20 year old RHD and turn him into some 26-29 year old on a team that sort of sucks but isn't bad enough that they want to hoard firsts.

Yes, the whole pending a physical of a prospect is certainly not making this rumour appear legit, but I am willing to suspend disbelief as I suck up the hopium.

I think often these hasty trades where a player no longer is desired or have character issues often end up in underwhelming returns. I've always hoped the Canucks would be the beneficiary of one of those.

RH D with size, skating, and high end offensive ability don't come along that often. I think some of you are overthinking it. You hope with a firmer hand, his perceived character issues can be coached out. As long as the price makes sense, we should all be on board with a 20 year old potential top pairing D.

If the Canucks can be on the winning end of an Erat/Forsberg or Huberdeau/Tkachuk, it would go a long way in strengthening the team's window.

This is giving me flashbacks to when the old CDC forums were around, and everyone and their dog loved to post fake, BS rumors.

The Hodgson-for-Perry trade, the Canucks moving on from Dan Cloutier because he hit someone with his fancy car, I'm sure there were others.

Of course, the famed "BBQ salesman" story originated right here on HF as far as I know.

I used to know someone involved in the Canucks office and I'd always text them the CDC rumours and they'd always get a good laugh out of it
