As much as Chytil’s last NHL shift could be anytime, I’d much rather him at his age, cap hit and contract length than Zib if the Nucks have to take back salary in a Miller deal.

If Laf is off the table, you push for Cuylle.

If they stick hard on both, I’d rather Perreault than Othmann he even though he’s a RW.

I’d also want KAM over Schneider.

Lastly, 1st should be included. Don’t really care if 2025 or 2026 but prefer 2025 in case NYR bounce back next year.

So Chytil, KAM, Perreault + 1st for Miller.

Rags keep most of the players they want to keep.

Nucks get a 2C, Top 4 d, blue chip prospect and a potential Top 10 pick.
It really depends on where the Rangers think they're at this season. If they think they still have a shot then then might give up some quality assets for Miller.

But if they're becoming more and more convinced that they're toast this season--then I suspect they stay the course and maybe dump a couple of contracts at the TDL. And with Shesterkin now on IR, it's more likely they're closer to writing off the season.

If you are getting top 4 d, blue chip and a 1st as part of it you'd probably have to take back a bigger cap dump and not someone like chytil.

In my bones, I just felt the J.T. Miller contract extension wouldn't age well......I didn't expect it to happen so quick, though.

ok

Compared to the signings of Huberdeau, Tkachuk and Kadri, this contract is excellent value for the Canucks. A seven year term at $8m per is a contract you can live with, particularly considering the salary cap is likely to rise significantly next season.

You certainly can't buy Miller's combination of scoring, toughness and leadership on the open market. Not sure what this means for Horvat, but I guess you cross that bridge when you come to it.

I think the contracts for guys like Huberdeau, Kadri, Gaudreau and Tkachuk, might have a lot to do with the Canucks re-thinking a deal for Miller.

The other real possibility is that the offers from other teams just didn't measure up, when compared to what the loss of Miller would mean to the team's bottom line on the ice.

It's really too bad......if we didn't have those albatross contracts for players like OEL, Myers and Pearson, the Canucks could easily justify $8m over seven years for Miller. I also think that Miller's deal will age a lot better than the long-term extensions handed out for guys like the aforementioned Gaudreau and Huberdeau.

I get that the Miller signing is controversial for some Canuck fans.....but it needs some sort of context.

Would you rather have 31-year old Nazem Kadri at $7.5m or Jonathan Huberdeau at $10.5 million, who's also 29 but a left winger; or J.T. Miller at $8m a season who can play center or any forward position? It's really a no brainer, isn't it?

And people are praising the Flames to the skies for those two contracts, which could cripple the franchise for years. Miller is well worth the risk in that context.

Count me as shocked that the Canucks actually re-upped Miller.....just didn't see it coming.

But I guess Rutherford and Allvin took stock of what they were being offered in the trade market, and decided that without Miller the team would be taking a major step backward.

That, and the fact that the salary cap is set for a significant rise next year, probably changed the landscape for a new contract for Miller.

And when you look at who the Canucks have down the middle--Miller, Horvat and Pettersson--it's one of the top center groups in the Western Conference. In retrospect, I'm glad they kept them together to see what they can accomplish.

I'd still gamble on Laf, I think he could take that next step and he's younger than Miller was when he broke out.
I agree. I think Lafreniere would be a worthy bet and don't get why some are so low on him. He is the NYR asset with the most upside. He looked dominant down the stretch last year and that was without much PP1 time.

He is not the first young Rangers forward that has struggled to develop to his full potential. It would make moving off Boeser at this TDL easier too.

Friedman tends to add a really obvious statement like “there’s 3 possibilities here - trade none, trade A, or trade B” to cover his ass a bit, but he definitely is acting with some type of information being fed by management here. It’s clear that they’re fishing for better offers like Peen said.

I liked how Bieksa chirped Friedman right after.

Demanding a C in return to me seemed obvious but that’s a new report.

Guess they’re not looking to take a package and parlay.

And, to me, that indicates a shorter term perspective where they want to remain really good now with no glaring new holes created.

When I look at the Canucks cap next year;

Heinen, Hoglander, Desharnais are candidates to have their cap hits reallocated imo.

Boeser, Suter, Forbort UFA’s

Demko not living to his 5M cap - interesting what happens with him - he doesn’t have trade protection and what decision is made with Lankinen

They have trade protection but man I’ll just throw Soucy and Myers names out there. 6.25M between the two of them.

Do you have any clips? If so then I stand corrected. I don't think I've ever seen quite that level of disregard for the team before though.

What about that overtime play a couple years ago where he gave up against the Flames in OT and allowed the player to score all the way from his own blueline without reaching the bench?

I also seem to remember another OT he similarly blew for us a couple weeks ago I think. Do NHL players not care at all about line changes. Is that really a thing?

You're generally right though I'm being fairly hyper critical. I don't hate Miller or anything but that display is just gross. If you don't want to play for your teammates sit on the bench and let someone else play that gives a shit.
i used Kucherov because i see him do it so often but Its more of a thing than just Miller. And it is more common with older established players who don't have to worry too much about their coaches benching them

Remind you of anyone? Anyhow not great clips as people don't make videos of poor play typically but i love watching the Bolts and i can tell you truthfully i've laughed pretty hard at some of his defensive efforts and line changes over his career. He's also dirty as F and snaps like Miller on the bench and at teammates

Re; Miller. If it was playoffs in a close game i would be pissed off too but over the years i've learned to accept that some scoring stars around the league are willing to stay out and try to make something happen at the end of shifts and sometimes that makes for some heinous line changes. But also it produces some goals.

Sedins were athletic cyborgs so you almost never seen it with them and they were the best i've ever seen at late shift production. Miller is like 230lbs so i think he just gasses right out at times and can't move and it looks awful. He's no spring chicken anymore either and for sure he's going through some health issues
