This is why I think targeting a young LHD makes more sense than a RHD in any trade.

Based on how Willander is progressing and the faith the organization has in him, he could very well slot in next year.

So to me it makes more sense to acquire a LHD.

Hughes-Willander
New Player-Hronek

Would look like very nice as a Top 4.

Soucy, Myers, etc can slot in as a 3rd pairing.
Agree with the need being a LHD more than a RHD.

I also would like Romanov as a target, but I don't think it should be from a Miller trade.
I think something centered around Lekk+ for Romanov would be good, if plausible.

He might really dislike his coach. If Drury is making a whole sale change. Then he gets bought it in the summer. Grab him for half the price in the summer and hope he has a Duchene type rebound.
unless PuckPedia's buyout calc is wrong, they save less than $700k buying him out. Better off paying to upgrade, or just plugging thy nose and hoping for a bounce back next season.

For a team that has 2 conference final appearances in the last 3 seasons, the Rangers look completely fooked and could be very desperate.

One more year of Panarin and then ???

got to think their first and Perreault are on the table.

going to be very interesting to see what they do here.

Gary Mason just dropped an article on the Canucks dressing room. Behind a pay wall
Though.

No one has more connections than him. Very curious.

I know this was posted earlier but he's my recap of all the players the Canucks like on the Islanders according to THN's Stefan Rosner. He also spells Rick Tocchet's last name wrong (Tocchett) so the journalistic standard isn't extremely high.

Canucks Interest in Islanders Players
  • According to industry sources, Canucks have Noah Dobson high on their wish list if the Islanders look to trade him
  • They have interest in prospect Danny Nelson
  • Simon Holmstrom is another player the Canucks like
  • Canucks have interest in Brock Nelson but only if he signs an extension
  • Rick Tocchet likes Casey Cizikas

TBF, his parents can't spell Stephen or Stefan correctly so perhaps it's hereditary.

There's virtually nothing new in that article. Only two real pieces that have some heretofore unreported quotes, but again, nothing new or truly noteworthy.

But there is and has been for some time.

Miller is a gruff, miserable-to-play-against alpha male who strides around the locker room like he owns it. He’s never been shy about expressing his opinions. Pettersson is soft-spoken and outwardly shy. He plays the centre position with an extremely high level of skill but gritty he is not. At times, he’s been exceedingly easy to knock off the puck and his skates. Soft may be too harsh a word to describe his game, but it wouldn’t be too far off. Miller plays hockey with grit and fire and determination. You can see how watching Pettersson play would drive him crazy.

And -

This tracks with a conversation I had around the same time with a senior member of the Canucks organization who told me Pettersson “couldn’t stand” Miller. It’s unlikely he would have been the only one on the team, at the time, or since, who shared a similar feeling.

Nonetheless, the pair have managed to co-exist, with both excelling at various times.

Let's assume for a second, as normally stated, Mason is basically a proxy for Aquilini ... the entire article is largely just a summary of what's going on (with a Messier/Linden comparable at the beginning), with two pieces of perhaps inside information:

-Something has to give soon in this whole messy affair or the Canucks season will go up in flames. It may be getting close to that point already.

I'd be surprised if Miller is still in a Canucks uniform by the March TDL. Rangers have coveted him for years, and now the Islanders are in the mix. Is J.T. a New York kind of guy?

I've pitched EP +picks/filler for Dobson + Barzal over the last couple seasons, and if that actually goes down, you all owe me five dollars.

USD

I would take a Barzal and Dobson for Petey trade in a heartbeat....Barzal is a dynamic offensive weapon on a shitty team, Dobson is an incredible well rounded defensemen.......on a shitty team.

I think the Canucks would be way better off with both those plays, I'd happily pay ya $5 USD

I don't think the news is necessarily Mason reporting on anything new, but that he wrote an article at all about the alleged feud. He's not a typical NHL insider whose career depends on being a good boy to get leaks or making outrageous allegations to grab attention, he largely writes about politics and has access to the Aquilinis out of a lifetime of journalistic reputation.

So I'd take Mason's article as a confirmation of the current state of affairs - management is indeed shopping either Miller or Pettersson (maybe both) and they'd rather pull the trigger within the season instead of waiting. It's possible Blueberries told Rutherford/Allvin to sort it out but I don't think it's why the article was written.

Lavioe translation:

I think this has more to do with the @CANUCKS as it seems obvious that a big name will be traded. A transaction that will obviously also involve one or more players from Abbotsford. ⬇️

Feels like maybe something is close?

This very much feels like the team getting in front of the media narrative for a soon to come move.

I’m sure if the two players can work it out between now and the deadline / offseason it’s easy enough to pull back but if not then one gets moved.

Pittsburgh, Utah, and Boston. The teams are plausible.

Marcus Pettersson, Kesselring, Zadorov/Frederic?

Or, they were there watching the World Juniors and it’s just a coincidence… probably a bit of both

the article has the flavour of a limited hangout. i think the canucks have settled on a strategy and mason's story is intended to retake control of the narrative and send a message to both players and their agents that the rubicon is crossed on a trade solution.
