Yes. Puckpedia adds it already

Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to change that. Unless Willander takes off flying, he won't be ready for a consistent top four role, and getting a top four RD will cost far too much. It isn't like any good ones are available in free agency either. Our only real option is going back to a platoon system like we had last season. The hope would be Willander can handle more minutes in a limited capacity.

Alternatively, we have to trade him if someone like Weeger or Andersson were to become available.
I hear what you are saying, but its a non-starter for me...Myers cannot be in the top 4 IMO. We've seen this movie before, we've had 5+ years of it, he's not qualified for the job and the coaching staff need to have a better option so they stop using him in situations that end up hurting the team. If Willander can displace him, perfect, but that's a pretty tall ask.

Now it's an assumption but if Allvin/JR was aware of this EP/Miller issue last season....then they should be outright fired for locking Pettersson into that extension. That would be a massive Benning-like botch.

It's a shame two grown men have elected to put their egos before the team and city.

It's a combo deal, in my opinion. That's one part of it, but they also severely botched the offseason work. Miller/Pettersson have coexisted without public incident for extended periods previously, largely when the team was winning. The blue line's complete inability to transition/move the puck is hampering everything offensively, and is probably extremely frustrating for the forwards. Fingers are being pointed etc.

I somewhat wish management would just come out and say, "Hey it's on us, we obviously didn't bring in enough defensive depth, specifically puck movers. It's impacting the forwards and our ability to generate offense, but we still believe in the forward group and we're going to fix the blue line to get back to our winning ways." Instead they leaned into this Miller/Pettersson thing and throwing mud at the forward group, and it's created this massive issue, plus hindered their bargaining position if they were to choose to move anyone.

That's quite the assumption. It's pretty well known that not everyone gets along in locker rooms. Is Petey is supposed to just cave in and do whatever Miller says? That sounds pretty dumb.

Nick Kypeos, and I can’t repeat this enough, doesn’t know shit.
This place does?

It's funny how embarrassing management has made this. It's not the roster, it's the handling of everything.

As bad as the defense is...and as mindboggling as it was for management not to see that adding an actual top 4 defenseman was imperative...its hard to pin this all on the defense's inability to move the puck. The only real changes were going from Cole to Desharnais, and adding Forbort and Brannstrom...we've never really had a lot of puck movers on the back end in the last few seasons and we managed to make it work offensively. I think the problem is that we spend too much time in the defensive zone, its hard to generate offense when you're constantly hemmed in your own zone and then when we do get into the o-zone we don't shoot enough pucks (29th in the league for SOG)...everyone loves to play the skill game and pass it around the horn with no shots, its like their goal is to play keep away, and are afraid to shoot the puck.

Zadorov as well but it’s not like the offense took off with him in the line-up.

Part of it is they can’t generate any sort of breakout. Even with that, Miller and Pettersson have both been very disappointing when they do have he puck. It’s a multifaceted problem. Sherwood and Blueger are creating chances and it doesn’t matter who’s on the ice but the two stars are struggling most games.

There’s A LOT of blame to go around.

It's not simply a 1-for-1 player swap analysis. Cole and Zadorov were both light years ahead of guys like Forbort, Desharnais, and Juulsen in terms of their ability to move the puck, and generally function on the offensive side of centre ice. Couple that with Soucy and Myers taking a major step back from last year and you have a total meltdown.

Sure, the forwards aren't gunning as hard as last year, but I think most of the offensive problems are back-end driven because in a "best case scenario" four of your six defensemen handle the puck like a grenade. In a "not best case scenario" you have one depth guy in Brannstrom (who management stumbled into by pure luck, and who was not in their plans) that can actually make a pass, and then all of them handle it like a grenade. I don't think you can overestimate how badly this lack of transition game can impact your ability to generate shots and offense.

The only way they were able to moderately function offensively was by playing Hughes/Hronek like 25 minutes per night.

Cuylle, KAM + Rags 2025 1st (unprotected) for Miller.

Use the Rags and/or Nucks 2025 1sts to acquire another C.

Rangers hang up in a hurry.

Methinks that if it comes to pass that we trade one of Petey or Miller, we will all be pretty devastated by the return. I don't foresee a scenario where we really win such a trade.

Anyone that has played any team sport knows that you can sometimes loath your teammates. Hell, there was some speculation that multiple guys on that 2008-2012 Canucks team didn't like each other. It just doesn't give one the greenlight to play like ass and just pout and bitch on the ice.

I will keep repeating it. This management group has done an average job when we needed an above average group to rectify 8 years of shit. There's nothing wrong with "average" but there's been a few pro-scouting mishaps which would be a moot issue for most teams. It just so happens that the mishaps (Mikehyev, Desharnais and Forbort) are impactful when you are trying to compete and navigate through a tight cap with limited resources.

The way they are handling this Miller/Pettersson issue is sort of like how Gillis handled Schneider/Luongo. There's too much smoke and fire right now and management is doing or saying nothing to put it out.

100%. JT Miller is turning 32 with 6 years left on his deal after this season. Pettersson just signed a massive contract. Both contracts carry immense risk, especially if both are traded for character-related reasons.

JT needs a reset" escalating into "JT needs a change of scenery," was always the thing to actually keep an eye on this season. If the Canucks are taking on calls on Miller like Kypreos suggests, it's about that & not about active feuding with Pettersson like the rumour mill would love to make it out to be.

I suppose I should add with the Rangers -

Drury seems crazy and stupid enough to do something insane. But any sane GM would hang up that phone in a heartbeat the second Cuylle's name got brought up, nevermind adding the 1st and KAM.

I don’t disagree.

But that’s the ask.

So real question is: who’s more desperate? Allvin or Drury?

It's an unfortunate reality—but even then it may still be beneficial for Vancouver.

The Canucks roster is better constructed by trading for a 2C who plays like a 2C for 2C dollars than for keeping a 1C who plays like a 2C for 1C dollars.

Even if the player they trade away becomes a 1C again at their next club—they may never become that player again for the Canucks. You have to evaluate it on what they are delivering for you now, not what they might deliver for the team that they go to.

Yeah, I would agree. Miller should figure out his issues.
