I don't normally agree with Seravalli but I do agree the team isn't as good as last year. Losing Lindholm and Zadorov really hurt. Lindholm was great in the playoffs and his faceoff ability was underrated. Zadorov brought character, leadership and toughness to the backend. The big Z also stepped it up in the playoffs. There are so many new faces on the team, a huge change to what was already good. Losing out on these two players and replacing the defense with Desharnais and Forbort was a huge miss. Allvin seemed to have addressed the forward group when he should of been retooling the defense. Desharnais and Forbort are not the answer, far from. I really hate bleeding assets away "Brzustewicz/picks" for short-term rentals. I have faith in Allvin, but finding a top 3 defenseman and a 2nd/3rd line centerman is literally the exact same thing "Every" other contender is looking for. I will be patient but with no Demko and a low confidence Pettersson the Canucks are in trouble. Trading for Kovacevic for rupees, and signing a puck mover like Alex Carrier could of helped a lot.

We shall see what Allvin has up his sleeve.

Zadorov wasn't on the team until about 20 games in and didn't really work until half-way through. Lindholm was absolutely brutal until the playoffs.

Lots of small problems but the big problem, to me, is Pettersson is playing like a $3 mil 2nd line tweener instead of an $11 mil first line center.

Exactly. It's a process. Every year is different, teams work on their weaknesses. not many are perfect, just about every team has it's own challenges. We're in third place in the division and 14th overall, 4-5 points out of second overall** with 1-4 games in hand on everybody (5 points back from Devils (2nd place)) except the Jets. People getting all uppity just show they don't know the landscape, league, or math very well.

Folks really should just sit back and enjoy the sport instead of chasing their own tails around. This is hockey. Enjoy it and let's see if we can rise a little higher to the top of the league again. It's never easy but we have a good foundation and it's doable.

When we moved Kuzmenko we lost the one player in our lineup who was willing to take risks to make plays. This team is starving for one-on-one talent and creativity, both of which Kuzmenko provided. It's no coincidence that Pettersson had his 100 point year with him on his line and that our powerplay has declined without him.

blame tocchett. who cares if he doesnt play defense. sprong is the excat same thing. at least kuzy and petterson clicked and was fun to watch.. when boeser went down before game 7, vancouver had noone that could put the puck in the net anymore. what if the lindholm deal didnt go through? keep kuzy but find help in a different area. maybe could have traded mikeyecv with rentention... could of woulld of should of...

Yep. Myers, Desharnais, and Forbort represent $6.5M in cap that are going towards non-top-4 defenseman. Super inefficient, and I'm sure the team knows it.

DeBrusk early returns have been ass but long term I'm not worried.

I also feel like DeBrusk will earn his keep.

I think because the coaching staff improved Z's game, they thought they could do it again with Desharnais. Zadorov brought so much to this team, letting him go without a finding a solid replacement was a major mistake.

Brock Boeser is a hundred percent getting an extension, if you think there's some uncertainty there you've got worse fever hallucinations than Vector.


Boeser is playing in Vancouver or Minnesota probably his entire career.

I don't think this is as sure as you do (though I could see Minnesota as an alternative and they are freed from cap hell soon).

If Boeser demands 9 million, for example, I probably walk away from that.

mccann and horvat are both better than forsling imo. forsling is the right pick right now because of the situation on defense but in a vacuum either of the forwards are more valuable

Watching Guentzel play with Point and Kucherov is absolute poetry. Arguably the best line in the league right now.

Where we went wrong, I think, with 20-20 hindsight bias, is that we should have targeted Guentzel instead of Lindholm (Actually, I think I sort of thought this at the time since our winger depth was worse than our center depth).

If he had come here and experienced some success, presumably he would have been open to returning as he was with Carolina before they Dundon-low-balled him into moving on.

Because of that trade, Benning needed a top 4 defenceman and brought in OEL, which lead to the buyout and the loss of additional key assets. And now, we're looking at spending more to get an expensive top 4 defenceman, in a seller's market.

Yes, he was not the player he was today when was traded, nor did anyone expect him to be this damn good. Yes, he was waived by Chicago and every team in the league passed on him. But all they had to do was not make stupid trades for mid 20s depth pieces and gamble with their prospect pool. You make enough of those deals, sooner or later you're going to get burned.

Tocchet has attempted to force every player to be like Miller and Sherwood. You can't make a fish climb a tree. That's not their game. Let them contribute the way they know how - offensive creativity and pure skill.

Stop trying to jam a square peg into a round hole, and then calling out the peg for not doing what you want. These players have spent their entire careers playing a specific style that has led them to make the NHL. Changing it to fit your requirements because you feel the need for everyone to play this tough, chippy, grinding brand of hockey is dumb and IMO shows poor leadership.

Teams are successful because they have a mix of pure skill, size, and toughness. You can't win in this league without skill. Even the Kings of 2012 still had Anze Kopitar out there.

Nobody's debating that. The man could barely string a sentence together at his first press conference. There were immediate red flags that people ignored because we were still hurting from being swept by San Jose.



By the end, he was incoherent and rambling at every public appearance. How the f*** this man held a $1 million per year executive position for a billion dollar pro sports team...for eight years...is beyond me.

Hoglander-Blueger-Sherwood
Heinen-Suter-Bains
Sprong

I think that's a good overall mix of talent and grit throughout the lineup. Rotate Sprong in and out depending on injuries and performance.

Imo they need to deal with desharnais asap. If puckpefia numbers are correct.. 2mil that could be lost on waivers or 1.15mil saved if clears to minors.
Combine that with more than likely bains going down when Joshua is back that gives them 2.3 to 3mil cap

That’s not even what made the trade bad for me. This was the 99.9999 percentile of bad results when trading away Forsling. His value probably around 2nd or 3rd at the time. The trade was bad because Clendening should have had absolute no value. He was having a down year in the AHL and was running out of waiver ineligibility. Prospects running out of or are eligiable should just not have value. Look what we traded for Kravstov. But that management team overpaid for these types of players multiple times with Vey, Baertshi, Clandening, etc. Even not using hindsight, Forsling was a 5th round pick but was trending upward. I’d put his value at around a 2nd or 3rd at the time.
