I think Dallas will be a major player for a cost controlled RHD. They are running Dumba/Lybushkin/Smith right now and their window is wide open.
Vegas will somehow get him for dirt cheap while the rest of the league bids for Gavrikov.

Frank Seravalli reporting that the Canucks are already beating the bushes for blueline help. They're trying to figure out the market for some of the impending UFA d-men who might be on the move before the TDL.

The problem of course is that once you get past Hughes and Hronek, their stable of d-men is comprised mostly of 5-6-7 guys.

They're trying to use Soucy and Myers as a 3-4 pairing, but it's been a borderline disaster so far. And it won't get any better.

Unfortunately the price at a minimum is likely to be their first rounder; and another prospect who can play immediately. But it's the price you have little choice but to pay, when draft after draft you fail to find NHL d-men.

I wouldn't make an upgrade right now if I'm in Allvin's shoe. The team hasn't shown me enough to convince me they are 1 piece away from being a serious contender. A healthy JTM will make a huge difference, but until Demko is back and ESPECIALLY until Petterson snaps out of his funk, we aren't going anywhere, and trading for an upgrade now is just a waste of asset in my opinion.

Also I don't think there is a realistic chance management trade Petey because you only trade him if he doesn't pick up his play, but who is going to commit $11.6m for 7 more seasons for a guy playing like he is? That is a massive gamble that, if it doesn't pay off, could slam shut any teams contending window. He could rebound and be a monster 1C, but I can't see too many team (contending or rebuilding), wanting to take on that risk. Unless we are taking on an equally risky player, but then what's the point from our end?

Canucks will have to decide when is their time to be aggressive. What they have in the system, isn't overwhelming. It's Wallinder and maybe Petey on D. It's Lekky a winger up front. Most everyone else at F is a bottom 6 guy.
They don't have enough to be going out and making big deals at the TDL.

This teams seems similar to the Gillis 2011 team. Window was what like 2009-2013 and then done.

If CGY offers up Rasmus Andersson for two playoff runs at 50% retention (2.25MM) he will get an absolutely mammoth package.
Well we have the Hronek, Chychrun, and Lindholm deals as comparables. So, if they retain it’s likely first+ 2 seconds and something on top for retention. Obviously the configuration of the deal will differ but that would be the base value.

I think Provorov has been ruined by playing on bad teams for his whole career. Maybe as a cheap UFA signing but I'm not sure about giving up assets for him.

I think the best option is still M. Pettersson even if his play has slipped this year. He's much more flexible as a pending UFA, I have some faith that he'd be able to play well on a better team and his cost could be lower.

"Absolutely no one could have seen this coming." - definitely not me during the summer.

I like(d) the Desharnais target. And the Myers deal was prudent, but he's been one year good, one year bad, for a while now. I think the move is to bump Soucy down the lineup. Soucy-Des as the 3rd pair would be good in the playoffs.

Soucy has fallen off a cliff compared to last year, that's the main problem. Myers is still Myers. The other problem is they don't have a bottom pairing like last year (originally anchored by Cole) that can take the pressure off them, maybe Brannstrom plays into that but we'll see, and he'll need a better partner to do it.

I don't even mind Forbort, but not sure how he fits unless Brannstrom plays the offside, which Tocchet hates. Desharnais has been pretty much a bust thus far ... I thought he actually had some good moments in the playoffs against us and could see the thought process ... but he's not working out.

cole was 4th in ev ice time last year and first in pk ice time (per game; defenders only). i don't think they were wrong to move on from him but they were wrong to try to replace him with forbort. this team badly needs someone who can reliably hold down second pairing minutes like cole did last season. myers barely clears the bar

Ruined? He's a legit top pairing defender who plays in all situations. He may not have flashy offensive numbers, but he's a very steady player who would anchor a 2nd pair for us and likely would be our 1st PK option. He will absolutely not be a cheap signing in july.
