Grub's Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Go Your Own Way

It seems to happen every season.....the Canucks land in 'Winterpeg' at the tail end of a road-trip, and are usually running on fumes by the time they get there.

Don't know who's between the pipes for the Canucks. It could be Lankinen coming off a shutout over the Leafs; but more probably it's Demko.

This is one game where the Canuck goalie is going to have to find a way to outplay Hellebucyk at the other end, and probably steal one.

I really like that idea. Buffalo is feeling the urgency and could be on the precipice of stupid. Where does that leave us looking, just the first trade....? Keep in mind I don't get to see too many Sabre games.

DeBrusk-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Cozens-Garland
Suter-McLeod-Sherwood
Heinen-Blueger-Peterka/Benson

Hughes-Myers
Samuelsson-Hronek
Soucy-?

Like, that's a pretty damn complete team based on what I know. That 3rd line looks like hell to play against, but Peterka/Benson stick out like a sore thumb on the 4th but I have a hard time seeing Tocc move either of them up unless absolutely necessary. Definitely still need a 3RD to fill the ?. I don't like Juulsen there, but he's fine as a 7th/8th injury option.

I doubt we'd get 2 unprotected firsts, but maybe 1 that we could flip to complete the lineup. Assuming full health, which in Vancouver historically never happens lol, That looks like a more serious contender.

I'll add the caveat that the Hughes/Myers pair won't work. They both like to skate the puck out of trouble, but I think Myers could adjust to it with Footer.
If a first is flipped hopefully it is the later pick. Boeser to Minny for RHD Jiricek and Trenin (Min's cap reasons)
I'm thinking of the more human variables that go into the equation, personally. I didnt like Cozens in his draft year, but he assumed leadership of two WJC teams - one of which was proclaimed to be the best since 2005 (which was always laughable, IMO). He has at least *shown* something at the NHL level unlike other busts off the top of my head. Nail Yakupov would have killed for a 68-point season.

Samuelsson I couldn't tell you much about, I'm not much of a defenseman but from what very little I've seen there's some intelligence there. You aren't buying high on any of these guys, so there is risk. But you don't get to drink the juice without a bit of squeeze.

It's kind of moot because I don't think Buffalo would take it, but he did enough work and put enough thought into it where you can at least workshop it, which is what I enjoy about the proposals section the most.
Cozen's isn't getting as much PP time and being used more in defensive role. Also all those years on a losing team wears players down. If anything this decline may show how badly he wants to win but he can't do it by himself and feels the pressure to do just that by fans and coaches.

Before Powers and Byram Samuelsson was the #2 dman but if a deal includes Power then not likely Samuelsson.
We put Bran on waivers before Juulsen?

Are you out of your F***ING minds?????????

I don't even know what to say.

Can anyone honestly say Juulsen is better?
Hmmm, small guy and a Euro, just another coaches decision?

Brisebois does have the "story" of how hard he worked to make it, it really is good to hear of his efforts.

They will now have 4 open roster spots

The fact is my opinion of him isn’t as high as yours. That’s about it. All I do is watch the games. Numbers mean little to me and cheapens my experience as a fan, personally.

Does that satisfy that?

***Also I never said anything about any facts please don’t misrepresent my posts***

Minnesota isn't trading a player they traded for because then wanted. Also practice every player on their roster has either NMC or NTC. Trenin has NMC.

He's quite literally not the player you think he is, in my opinion based on what he's shown. It's 3 months of fantastic hockey, and a lot more inconsistency. Making an evaluation based on the facts does not qualify as overthinking to me.

I would appreciate if you don't try to overthink my own overthinking. It's not good for anyone.
?

Oh good lord child. Agree to disagree.

Some posters who’ve been here much longer and whose opinions I trust seem to agree which is good enough for me.
listen dude, you don't get to be pissy. you're the one who made the argument and claimed to be the only person with the facts. Now it's other people you agree with who have the facts but not you? And the other guy is the one being a child?

just say "I got caught up in the argument, i shouldn't have insinuated I was the only one with the correct information and just agreed to disagree much earlier."

I did not claim to be the only one with facts. Perhaps I’d have phrased that better. You say all that but y’all are equally as guilty and act holier than thou.

Just delete my account. This place is no good for me. Mr C, I’m asking you to wipe this f***ing account as a friend. Thank you.

Reverend is saying Hronek hasn't carried his own pairing yet - which is unequivocally true. He did not say that he's "bad away from Hughes", those are separate statements. I also want to see Hronek on his own pairing.

But my point was, he clearly carried his own pairing in Detroit.

Before he got traded to Vancouver, he was the #2 RHD on a team with two good dmen (both RHD).

Detroit didn’t want to commit to him, as they already have a solid #1 RD, so they traded him.

I have yet to see a compelling argument that he wasn’t successfully carrying the second pair in Detroit for the 60 games he played in the season that he was traded to us.

I think the reason they play him with Hughes is because he doesn’t just throw the pick to his partner’s side, the way Myers does. This saves Hughes a lot of wear and tear.

The guy who broke the mikheyev trade (van to chi) just said this:

He’s apparently got some Chicago connections and for all it’s worth it could be what Chicago is proposing.

I’m not a fan.

And I think I’d almost prefer Korchinski.

Either way, it would be a most futures deal with Chicago so I don’t see a fit.

Davidson runs a leaky ship, pretty sure they leaked a leafs trade a few years back. Problem with Chicago is they don't have a good young roster player, it would have to be futures, Lev, 1st, ++ or take some of those pieces for a roster player from a third team.

That's a good question, I haven't really followed his progression but it's not often a #2 pick is on the table that soon after the draft.

Which makes me a bit suspicious. And leaves a massive hole at C. And sets back our timetable considerably, which is pretty counterproductive if we're keeping the older C.

This would probably make more sense at the draft but wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the kinda thing Chicago is perhaps saying they’d do. Also agree would be very surprised if they made a futures trade right now.

Last thing to mention. Chicagos farm team played with 17 players today and Levshunov was apparently a healthy scratch (he was apparently seen signing autographs afterwards). Could be that he’ll get called up tomorrow, could be that he hasn’t played well and needed a night off or could be that he’s being held out for a trade….

I don't see why either teams would make that trade. Chicago is tanking even with EP at full strength, and we are in win now mode.
