Thought it was odd both agents would fly out to Montreal to meet with their clients the same day but remembered that the WJC was next door and finished the day prior so less surprising given that they could have been in attendance.

Just like those three GMs watching the Abbotsford Canucks face Laval. In the general area so why not.

Drury: We’ll give you a cap dump similar to OEL who can’t play at ES for your 100 point power forward who matched up with McDavid last playoffs.

Alvin: ??????????

It would sure be nice to find a defenseman who has a low panic threshold, even as a bottom pairing guy if we can't get a top 4 guy right away...our current group, minus QH, is so bad at turning pucks over its ridiculous...the ring arounds are soft, cough ups up the middle, bad retrievals, missed breakout passes...we are playing defense far too much because of it and we're not good at it.

No, but even laymen were warning about the lack of attention to the blue line in the summer, for basically those exact reasons. It wasn't hard to see it going wrong. They made the conscious decision to go cheap on defensemen.

We simply really couldn't afford more without making major decisions that would cost us years in the future. Sure we could have paid Zadorov for 5 years but really what would that have accomplished? We may or may not be marginally better but we'd still have a huge 4 yr cap hit for yet another big immobile 5/6 dman tree who doesn't defend well.

I myself and I'm sure Allvin and many others understood the real possibility this would happen. It was an acceptable risk considering the cap space landscape we're entrenched in, worsened by the OEL hit the next two years. Unfortunately I don't think there were any simple solutions available. What would you have done now that we have 20/20 hindsight? These guys are pretty low risk and leave us lots of flexibility moving forward to make actual impactful changes and upgrades. Of course this requires patience.

After the string of events of this season it's probably best we didn't waste our efforts trying to augment the defence this season. I don't have any doubt it is going to be addressed before next season though.

They had a tough start. Soucy in particular was poor

Bottom line is the AAV those players have is IMO a plan/cap to be able to acquire a 2/3D

The hard part is getting Byram without giving up Willander

Exactly how I saw/see it. It's extremely hard to fix everything up at once despite the fans who want it all done immediately.
