Kudos to finally putting together some actual proposals.
IMO, the team assembled after those trades is just not good. It is not a contender, nor close to one, as is your goal.
Neither Rantanen nor Marner are going to look at that roster, in a high-tax, high-scrutiny jurisdiction, and are going to want to come here.
I think its delusional to think that this management group is going to sit on their hands and write off this season when they're currently in a playoff position and have been dealing with the injuries they have...they may not dive head first into the rental market but there is nothing to indicate that these guys plan on throwing in the towel. To carry over from the last thread:
Buying at this point in any capacity is a terrible idea and will likely result in disaster. This team is about 4 or 5 pieces away from contending and they're dealing with awful injury luck, not to mention a locker room crisis.
Best thing to do is to write this season off, trade their UFAs and low cost players for assets (it's a sellers market) bring up some kids, and focus on competing next year after making trades/good signings in the summer. What they should really be doing is going to Quinn Hughes to include him in a strategy going forward, because this is his team and they have to do whatever they can to stop him from walking as a UFA. They will have to tear everything down and start from scratch if that happens, and they'll have missed the McKenna/DuPont drafts entirely.
Re: Pettersson/Miller - they need to shit or get off the pot. You cannot drag this on forever. Trade one, or trade neither and have them do a joint press conference where they publicly put an end to the circus and agree to work together.
The recent media updates heavily suggest they are leaning towards repairing their relationship with Pettersson, which leaves the likely option as a Miller trade for a fresh start elsewhere.
We should be buying because we need a bunch more guys. If you think we can acquire 4-5 guys in the offseason then you are dreaming. We need to add like 1-2 pieces at TDL with the intention of keeping them. Then throw away some guys in the offseason and then try to add 1-2 more in UFA.To carry over from the last thread:

Dhaliwal: Most people around the league don't think the Canucks are serious about trading pettersson.

Irrelevant, OTL points are still points...they've underachieved with a ton of important pieces of the lineup spending time injured. Not a reason to pull the plug before they even hit the half way mark. You don't know this management group very well if you think they're going to tank the season right now. They have the most OTL points in the league. They have more losses than wins. The only reason they're in a playoff position at all is because the West is weak this season...I don't see them making it past four or five games of the 1st round regardless of where they finish.
Dhaliwal's comments from the opening of today's show,
Trading Pettersson & Miller
- Most people around the league do not think the Canucks are serious about trading Pettersson
- Miller has not asked for a trade; Canucks have not asked him to waive his NMC
- Miller does not have a desired destination to go to
- Miller is concentrating on playing for the Canucks and there is nothing going on from his side
- Canucks are asking for a centre in return for either player

Agreed on the OTL points item. Like, I don't know why anyone really values OT/SO results in evaluating the play of the team. Those are gimmick/coin flip contests.Irrelevant, OTL points are still points...they've underachieved with a ton of important pieces of the lineup spending time injured. Kind of funny that the Canucks aren't serious about moving EP, haven't asked Miller to waive, Miller doesn't want to go anywhere...but the Canucks are asking for a center in a return for either player they don't want to move. lol...gotta love the media.

They might want a C back. They might not want a C back. Or they might not want any deal that doesn't make sense. - Stay TunedKind of funny that the Canucks aren't serious about moving EP, haven't asked Miller to waive, Miller doesn't want to go anywhere...but the Canucks are asking for a center in a return for either player they don't want to move. lol...gotta love the media.
I'd agree with that...unless someone is kicking the door down with a drop dead offer that you can't refuse, which I doubt there is, they're probably listening and playing coy but seeing who the players in the market might be for future use...but I think they want to get healthy, maybe shift a couple things around, possibly make a hockey deal where they can and see what the TDL looks like. They are just taking a read on the market, I don't think they are particuarly incentivized to trade either right now. I'd wager earliest is the deadline.
