Grub's Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, and & Fantasy GM | Go Your Own Way

I find it a little weird that the Miller/EP story is still front line news. Nothing has changed in like a month. Yet the media is still rehashing to same lines about them not getting along. I get that the "media" likes to pump up stories to get clicks but this has become ridiculous. And, yes, I clicked on the story with Boudreau's take so I guess I'm part of the problem...

unrelated side note: I don't like that I'm now a question mark.

Well JPat was famously denied access to JR's presser before he joined S&P?

It wasn't Sekeres & Press that got him access but joining The Hockey News for a few months. Then he left there and started working with CanucksArmy. He has press credentials through CanucksArmy which has it through The Nation Network.

Last year, I'd probably agree about Soucy....but this year he's been pretty miserable at both ends of the ice. I don't think Zadorov's only positives are the toughness, he has shown that he can move the puck fairly well and has a little bit of offense in his game...sure, he's prone to the odd brain farts...but not anywhere near the Tyler Myers level. The money wasn't what really gave me any pause about re-signing him, it was the term....I'm not saying I was fully on board with giving him what he wanted, but management really didn't do enough to make me comfortable with what they did to the defense this off-season...they needed a top 4 defenseman, they had one who wanted to come back, but they signed a bunch of noodnicks and tried to pass them off as "replacements".

Oh management failed in constructing the defense. Full agreement there.

I think Soucy and Zadorov moved the puck at a comparable level last year (possession, iirc). This year, they've both taken a step back. The separator between the two, to my mind, is Zadorov's ability to fight (and chirp).

This may surprise you, but even with Myers' 5-alarm mistakes, I still take him over Zadorov too.... Versatile with a better O- IQ. Makes loud mistakes, but they're not as frequent as we think.

They have the most OTL points in the league. They have more losses than wins. The only reason they're in a playoff position at all is because the West is weak this season...I don't see them making it past four or five games of the 1st round regardless of where they finish.

So you don’t think having Petey + Hronek + Demko the best dman we can get for our 1st + 2nd turns a lot of OTLs into wins and losses into wins + OTLs?

I think it turns us into a top 5 team, with a shot at it (always takes some luck).

Trading Miller/Petey for magic beans probably means the end of our chances to re-sign Hughes. The odds of magic beans turning into Hughes is basically 0%.

For me, Myers is an abomination...people talk about Trump Derangement Syndrome, I have Myers Derangement Syndrome at this point. lol...but I believe after this long, its earned.

I think the other thing is that all of us Canucks fans primarily remember Zadorov in the playoffs, so there's a bit of recency bias. If he continued to play as he had during the regular season last year, he definitely wouldn't have been worth his contract (which is why the ire from the Boston fans is understandable).

Yeah he's got size, some toughness, and will back an opponent but it doesn't change that he's poor at defending and lazy to defend on top of that. I don't see 5 or 6 years of that being worth whatever he would have added to this D-core this year. I would far rather wait and use that money on a good top 4 player that fits the team moving forward. Zadorov is impatience. Personally I doubt we're much better with him in the line-up.

I seem to recall he announces himself as from S&P when asking questions.

Interesting, even though I'm glad they didn't sign Zadorov to that Boston contract I can see the logic in this.
Did you listen to the scouting guy on the radio, he said Willander was not good, he got worse as the games went on, he was really disappointment for the Canucks that there has been no improvement over the two years.
IMO he could be another Juloevi.

Hughes rag dolled then smacked down.
Yep, sure glad we didn't sign that 6'6" 240+ lb guy that sticks up for his teammates, no room for him. Because they didn't want a 34 yr old dman. But 37 yr old forwards are full press to sign those guys for millions more. He is 29yrs old and the first year of his deal is almost done already.

Sure glad they don't have that OEL guy for 7.5 mil, nope instead they have Deharnais at 6.75 mil, that's his cap hit plus OEL's.

I can't wait to see who they get for Pettersson and how many millions they have to pay Tocchet to stay. The highest paid coach is around 8 mil isn't he? That means Tocchet, who has only two playoff appearances and one series win should get a 7 year 10+ mil a year contract offer from his bum buddy Allvin

The way Allvin manages he pays Boeser 9 mil a year and if he doesn't play up to the contract it is Boeser's fault for not growing up and making it work. No fault on Allvin.

After this he started writing articles for The Hockey News and was back in the rink. He left shortly afterwards for CanucksArmy.

The Nation Network owns CanucksArmy and S&P. That is where the media accreditation comes from.

which scouting guy? which radio show?

Cam Robinson had Willander as one of the best dmen in the tourny, so im curious who this scout guy is saying Willander was bad.
One less than bold prediction......that 'scouting guy on the radio' will go to ground when Wilander debuts in a Canuck uniform sometime in mid-March.
