@Diversification from your last reply, yeah like you said it's not gonna be the same situation. I don't know Sabres' owner that well, but I think what can be learned from our post reign of error era endeavors is that, perhaps hiring a competent front office can right the ship, and the first step would be to tell a meddling CHILD of an owner (of Pegula is such owner) to grab his pacifier and piss off, let the adults do their job.

Both JT and Pettersson think they should be captain I bet

i don't think it's about being the captain but there's always a hierarchy in any organization and clearly miller and pettersson's perception of the hierarchy is different

i do think hughes was the "compromise candidate" that allowed them to not pick sides in that conflict though

I don't think it's the captaincy, my suspicion is Pettersson has been contemplating a fresh start for a while now and was basically cornered into signing the new deal under threat of being traded to Carolina. Miller while related, is in large part a separate issue ... I think his personality is just wearing on people in the locker room generally. They certainly made the right captaincy pick with Hughes, thankfully.

I believe this, something is off

It does make you wonder how much truth there was to this article.

“I’ve heard there’s a lot of friction in that dressing room between some of the star players and then the rest of the team,” Cohen said. “It’s real cliquey in that dressing room. The way that they’re promoting players, particularly on their social media channels, and just everything that I hear coming out of that dressing room… It seems really dysfunctional at the moment.”

When JT plays like he did last year, it's great. Seems that something was affecting him physically to start this year as he didn't play until the last exhibition game.

So much of the "drama" has been centered on Miller vs Petey, but I suspect it goes beyond that. There have been other incidents with Miller and teammates in the past (Conor Garland stepping in between Miller and Luke Schenn at the end of a period, for example). And if you're "demanding" the best from your mates, it's tough to swallow when you're making goofs of your own.

Last month's successful road trip without Miller was a bit of an eye-opener. I love what both players bring when they're at their best. Neither has been that so far. Here's hoping.

Hardly. Quinn stepped up in the leadership vacuum following Horvat’s departure, and his leadership and work ethic has turned the locker room mentality around. It’s been reported upon tons.

Just a few games ago, there was a story where Tocchet walked into the room after a piss poor 1st period, Quinn and him locked eyes, and he knew Quinn would get the team on straight. And we won the game.

If Pete thinks he commands that level of respect, he actually needs to step up. I’m perfectly fine with a quiet, lead by example leadership ala Sedins, but you are fooling yourself if you think Pete is even close to that kind of leader right now.

If you choose EP over Miller and trade him, EP needs to make a firm mark on this franchise. Not the kind of player we have been making excuse upon excuse for. He’s injured, he doesn’t have linemates, he doesn’t get along with Miller, etc.

The last part of your post makes no sense… if Hughes is this great leader (I think he is) the. What Pettersson is doesn’t matter as long as he is not a problem in the room. He doesn’t need to be a leader.

Especially if the reason to move on from either Pettersson or Miller is one being a locker room problem. I mean we all should know who the problem is in that scenario, and I am not saying it is a big enough problem.

We pay too much attention to what people say, and how they act, rather than what they do imo.

Pettersson had every chance to leave here. He never caused a fuss behind the scenes (Dhaliwal). He delayed re-signing here, and that was the first indication of uncertainty. Franchise players in his position sign in their first offseason of eligibility (generally). But then, he re-signs for max term. That commitment should trump every other narrative. It absolutely destroys some outright.

Pettersson does NOT want a fresh start from Vancouver, imo. He wants a fresh start from Miller.

it sucks our two best forwards have extremely shitty body language and attitude.

Pettersson? Won’t fight for his teammates. Quiet. Sulky pissy attitude. Miller? Laziness, checking out, selfish, commands around players but makes terrible decisions himself. Will stand up for you but won’t bring you up either.

I’ve honestly had it with both. I want guys who will play for their teammates but also bring up their teammates.

Trade idea: JT Miller for Filip Forsberg

This may play on Trotz's desire to keep the re-tool going by just changing the mix at the top. It's bad in terms of losing a centre, but it is what it is.

Edit: Maybe get Novak back by making it a bigger deal.
