Oh okay,

I guess the Canucks were a playoff team every year Benning was GM? Because he dealt away picks every single year for crap players/rentals.

Toffoli, Tanev, Markstrom are a few guys they lost for nothing. Could have moved or signed and lost for nothing.

1st and 2nd in OEL deal.

4th/5th for Bowey

3rd for Dickinson

2nd/4th for Toffoli

2nd/4th/McCann for Gudbranson

2nd for Baertschi

2nd for Vey

3rd for Pedan

How many of the guys they acquired did they keep or amounted to anything other than Miller?

Last year is was a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, Kuzmenko, Bruz and more for what? Rentals

Im all for Miller/Hronek type deals. It’s definitely not fear mongering though get a grip. This team has pissed away tons of picks and prospects over the years and has nothing to show for it.
a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, Bruz 'n Kuz for rentals?

r u serious?

Well we are also missing Hronek. Even if we have another legit top 4 guy, missing 2 top defender would hurt any team.
I don't know what you are saying. The rest of the D was just as bad when Hughes and Hronek were playing.

This team doesn’t deserve us spending assets to help them, at least as far as picking up pending UFAs. Let’s see how they deal with these injuries. If they rise to the occasion than I can support some short term help. If not, then we should be looking at selling our own expiring assets (and cap dumps).

It's still worth doing this year. They didn't get out of the 2nd last year but they were close to it, a bounce or two. It's not like they got rolled in 4 games. Maybe they win with Demko.

The Canucks choose the go for it now path, buyout OEL, kept a 30yo Miller, huge commitment to Pete, traded future for Hronek. If they pull out of going going for it that's a huge mistake.

They were talent shy and still let two rentals walk, they are pot committed. The Miller timeline looms large here.

I had a post cooked up for this, but held back. Now's not the time. Let's see what they're like when everyone is back and see where they stack up.

It was a 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th + Brzustewicz + Kuzmenko for rentals. And Kuzmenko had significant negative value which needed to be cleared. The cost of of doing so was probably equivalent to the prospect we game up and then some.

The only material value given up was the 1st and it was late in a weakish draft and gave us a useful piece for the playoffs and was an insurance policy if the Pettersson negotiation had gone sideways.

This team is at a point in the cycle where mid/late round picks should be used (liberally) to upgrade the depth of NHL roster and early picks should be used to add big pieces when they're available,

They haven’t been healthy all year. Hughes week to week now. I would say he’s out at least a month? Obviously I don’t know but week to week is generally not short term.

So if he’s out a month, the deadline is Feb that leaves 1 month to “see what the team is when they are together”. Not saying that sarcastically and I’ve heard the coach say the same thing.

I just don’t see it really happening at this point, best guess is by the time Hughes is back that someone else will be hurt.

They’ll need to just make up their mind based on things as is. For me, this group isn’t it. Even if they sneak into the playoffs do you really want to see them spend assets to get eliminated in the 1st round?

I don’t. Would rather see them make a couple long term decisions for once. Sign Willander and send him to the AHL so you don’t burn a year.

Trade your pending UFA’s. then in the summer, fix the d. It’s way too trash to fix mid season.

They were trying to play a different system when Hronek was healthy. Myers and Soucy has picked up since we switched back to the under conservative approach.
Not saying they are great, but we are extra ass now with Hronek and Hughes both injured.

Only forty percent into the season, still lots of time to get fully healthy and add to the roster, relax..

Everyone wants trades and excitement but it's not that straightforward with so many injuries, we know the management team is in on everything and will do something asap.

As usual the main obstacle will be cap space, this year and the next two, especially trying to add a significantish piece or two during the Hughes window.

This team, like most, needs top talent on or just finished elc, if spending assets might as well pay up for the most efficient means to contention.

you' all realize there only 2 teams with less losses. NO fan likes where we are at, and atrocious inability to close out a game, but seriously, if we get healthy we could climb the standings rapidly
What does the L in OTL stand for?

Or, fix the D mid season by getting a player with term left on his deal a la Mattias Ekholm.

Just don't keep burning assets to get pure rentals, even if to fix past mistakes (Kuzmenko).

A month is enough time to see how aggressive they should be in pursuing said asset(s).

Who cares? So long as we're in the playoffs, how we got there doesn't matter. Most teams aren't playing without near as many injuries or personal issues we've dealt with this season.
I don't disagree I'm just perplexed as to what ChilliBilly meant by that.

I can't see the Canucks doing much until at the least the TDL at the end of February. They'll have a better idea then of whether or not they're 'buyers' or 'sellers'.

Unfortunately the Canucks haven't much to peddle, unless it's more draft picks or their top prospects like Wilander or Lekkerimaki.

I suppose if they can't reach a contract extension prior to the TDL with Boeser, he could be in play. And there still seems to be some interest in Hoglander around the NHL, despite his dismal season to date. And a guy like Forbort on an expiring contract might interest some team looking for playoff depth on the blueline.

But I really don't see any blockbusters on the horizon, that will suddenly transform their chances this season. About the only way for that to happen is if they were to deal one of their major pieces like Miller or Demko. Could happen.....with Allvin you never know. But hardly seems likely.

Nobody is really in the "rental market" right now anyhow...teams are looking to make hockey deals, and that's exactly what the Canucks should, and probably are, doing right now. And people who think we're going to, or should be, tanking...you don't know this management team very well.

Basically was saying we have one of the lowest # of regulation losses in the league. Only Vegas has less.

Edit - Sadly, we also lead the league in OTL. Last year we were never out of a game even if down a couple of goals. This year it seems no lead is safe.
