I wouldn’t. When in the past 15 years has this team shown they give two shits about prospects or draft picks?I'll be really surprised if they add a rental, at this point.

My assumption would be an immediate extension upon the trade. But yea no point in a pure rental now.I'll be really surprised if they add a rental, at this point.
This is just complete fear-mongering. I cannot think of a single case in league history where a GM gave up a high pick for a rental without being a clear playoff team.I wouldn’t. When in the past 15 years has this team shown they give two shits about prospects or draft picks?

Totally agree. Even with Hronek back and a rental like Zadorov last season, the Canuck still couldn't get out of the second round.
I think it's 'plug and play' time for Wilander once his BU season is done. And I'd pair him with Elias Pettersson II, who'll have benefitted from a full season in the minors.
Will they struggle at times? Probably. But I swear if I have to watch another 20 games of Forbort, Juulsen, Desharnais and even Myers at times, I'm going to be tempted to gouge out my eyeballs.
Looking at it more pessimistically; we lucked in to facing NSH, the easiest match up. Then struggled mightily generating any shots and didnt look like better team most of the time. Tunes might be different around here if we got VGK in the 1st round. We did put up a good effort especially with our goalie situation, Hughes getting banged up early, and Petey being useless thoughIt's still worth doing this year. They didn't get out of the 2nd last year but they were close to it, a bounce or two. It's not like they got rolled in 4 games. Maybe they win with Demko.
The Canucks choose the go for it now path, buyout OEL, kept a 30yo Miller, huge commitment to Pete, traded future for Hronek. If they pull out of going going for it that's a huge mistake.
Yeah I think we're at a point where this season you don't add a rental, but rather try to find a piece with term
I’ve constantly been battling with whether or not we should go for the playoffs (aka go all in) or simply stand pat and let the season play out.I said it before this season and I will say it again. This isn't our year. This year we hope to make the playoffs and get to the second round to maintain momentum, but I don't think we're a cup threat barring something seriously shifting.
Our window is when Willander and Lekkerimaki are contributing to the team, the cap goes up, and we can add some higher skill/speed through free agency.
I love Boeser, but I'm not sure we should re-sign him if he wants an 8 year deal at 8+.
I would love to sign Ehlers to add some speed to our team. I also think he has more to give on a team that gives him more top pp time and more ice time in general.
I also wouldn't mind going big game hunting if we could swing it. Marner or Rantanen would be major gets. Obviously we would need to move some things around to do this.
But we're not that far off.
Willander seems like a highly, highly likely adept top 4 shut down guy. If we get lucky and he doesn't have a long adjustment period he would be contributing in that role as soon as next year or the year after. We then just need another puck moving LD.
Our centers and D (again, if Willander hits the ground running and we add a competent LD) is decent. But our wingers aren't great.
DeBrusk is a great start, Joshua, Garland, and Sherwood are good, useful, fast forecheckers. Boeser could sign a semi reasonable contract. But there's not a ton of speed there and it's not very dynamic.
I'm sure Rutherford and Allvin are struggling with the same conundrum. Is this 'their year' or another year of building?I’ve constantly been battling with whether or not we should go for the playoffs (aka go all in) or simply stand pat and let the season play out.
With Hughes being week to week, I do think this season is practically lost. IMO, this roster needs a revamp and it would be wise to use this year as a transitional season for our younger players (I.e D-Petey, Raty, Sasson, and eventually Willander) while Lekkerimaki cooks down in the AHL to get stronger.
We are a team that struggles to generate shots and scoring chances without Hughes on the ice and people love to blame Tocchet for this but it’s really the personnel that we have. We don’t really have players upfront that are able to create chances on their own. We are small and slow on the wings. And we don’t have the puck moving ability on the backend that can make up for this deficit, even with Hughes and Hronek back.
I honestly think now the best move is to stand pat. Continue to integrate our younger players and hopefully we have a couple of them that are able to stick with the big club until the end of the season. Even with Hughes or Hronek back, this team is destined for a 1st round exit.
I would look at selling Suter, Heinen, Hoglander, Desharnais, Boeser, and in the off season find a trade partner that will take Soucy (when his current NMC turns into a 12 team NTC) and or Myers. And look for a young player with term like Hronek to add to this core if possible.

Absolutely should be selling all those pieces. Open up cap space in the event Gavrikov and Pionk are UFAs.
The fact that this team depends on a Norris Trophy winning defender shows either how bad the rest of the team is and a complete tear down is needed or the coaching.I’ve constantly been battling with whether or not we should go for the playoffs (aka go all in) or simply stand pat and let the season play out.

A trade won’t fix:Have to think that a trade is coming this week. Roster freeze is over, team absolutely shit the bed, and the defense proved that there was no one who could step up reliably.
Well we are also missing Hronek. Even if we have another legit top 4 guy, missing 2 top defender would hurt any team. The fact that this team depends on a Norris Trophy winning defender shows either how bad the rest of the team is and a complete tear down is needed or the coaching.
A trade won’t fix:
A sulky JT
A streaky EP
A aging BB6
A broken down Demko
The core outside Hughes has to may issues
Oh okay,This is just complete fear-mongering. I cannot think of a single case in league history where a GM gave up a high pick for a rental without being a clear playoff team.
Not even Benning was stupid enough to do this.
We simply cannot be in a position where we are near the cap and forced to sign a bunch of crappy depth defenseman again. This offseason was so horribly executed and it has forced us into a situation where we will probably have to overpay to acquire a #4 defenseman. And if they don't come here do we fold in 25-26 too? What do we get for Hughes at that point...
Can I have your account?27 is aging now? Shit i must be nearly dead. Time to get my affairs in order.
Pretty much all of these transactions are just Benning being dumb and having horrible pro-scouting. That's a completely different thing than trading for a player who will only be under contract with the team for a few months. If you want to worry about management trading picks for bad pro-scouting targets, that's reasonable.Oh okay,
I guess the Canucks were a playoff team every year Benning was GM? Because he dealt away picks every single year for crap players/rentals.
Toffoli, Tanev, Markstrom are a few guys they lost for nothing. Could have moved or signed and lost for nothing.
1st and 2nd in OEL deal.
4th/5th for Bowey
3rd for Dickinson
2nd/4th for Toffoli
2nd/4th/McCann for Gudbranson
2nd for Baertschi
2nd for Vey
3rd for Pedan
How many of the guys they acquired did they keep or amounted to anything other than Miller?
Last year is was a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, Kuzmenko, Bruz and more for what? Rentals
Im all for Miller/Hronek type deals. It’s definitely not fear mongering though get a grip. This team has pissed away tons of picks and prospects over the years and has nothing to show for it.
