Canucks don't have much cap room. Cap increasing by $4.5 mill for sure to $92.5 mill. CAD dollar drop likely rules out the high end of what reports were thinking of a $95-97 mill cap.

Boeser is the really only significant contract that is up. Replacements for the others likely to be what they are currently paying in suter, Lankinen, and Forbert. Even toss in Desjardis if they can move him. Currently that cap increase would get eaten up by OEL cap hit increase and Hogs new deal. Still pending his move out to free up some much needed room.

Unlikely to have both Boeser and new addition next season unless someone more than Hogs is moved.

I would say that every year we hear about teams wanting another club's top prospects. How many times have we seen them get that? Did Pitt get Carolina's prized prospects for Guentzal? Was Hunter Bruz Van's top guy, no... Giroux to FLA was for Tippett who had not hit yet in the NHL.
Rarely, do we see a team's top prospect go the other way in a deal like Forsberg did from Wash to Nash for example.

Anyway we can get either of Byram or Cozens within reason we should be trying
Buff needs players, roster ones. No picks or prospects unless they have another deal in the works, ala Rutherford who flipped the Horvat return for Hronek basically.

But, Buffalo needs roster guys back to change the makeup of their team.

Honestly, since the time they acquired ROR/Kane/Lehner in 2015, I don't think we've seen them make a most where they got at the time what is perceived as the better player. It's been sending their guys out for multiple assets in return. Just the Mittlestadt for Byram deal is the only one they made in that regard. They just operated as if they were a rebuild poster here on this board and bet on draft picks to develop and make the team better for the past decade.

I would imagine Boeser would have to be going the other way. $7.1M cap on Cozens.
I find it highly unlikely they move Boeser and risk losing what they have with he and Miller as a pair.

If they fail to resign him by tdl, then maybe that changes everything. This management is in win now mode so they may just keep him and let him walk if he doesn't agree to reasonable term/salary. That's the reality of win now...

In addition to this, successful teams know when to walk away from players when their demands exceed their value, no matter their history with the team. This management group seems the type to walk away from Boeser ala Horvat if the ask is too high but I think they would pursue a trade over simply letting him walk. If the team goes on a heater between now and the deadline and is firmly one of the top teams in the West, that could change their view though.

That would be a good move for us if so. Cozens through his prime vs Boeser through 28-35 is a way better bet. How do we convince Adams

Byram sure. Cozens, eh. $7M is a lot to be spending on a guy that hasn’t proven a lot at the NHL level.
Cozens is a prime break out candidate. 5 x 7 (24 to 29) is nothing i would worry about and he easily pays that out . If Buffalo and him are looking for a shake up you gotta be trying to make it happen. I would be more inclined to pursue Cozens vs Byram

Boeser is either signing an extension here or we're trading him to Minnesota, hopefully for an ELC type impact player. Maybe ten percent chance some team rents him for a few months, But next season he's playing with JTM or JEEk.

But, with Minny, they have Ohgren in the A and Yurov in Russia (last year of his deal there). But, neither is going to fill Brock's role for the PO this season. Canucks don't have assets to burn. Shot their shot last season with Lindholm. Can't really do that again. Have almost nothing coming out of the 202X drafts. UFA signings, will hit on a few like Sherwood and miss on Desjarnis. Going to happen.

The issue is fitting that $7M contract. Sure, if you can swap Boeser for him somehow it might be something to look into. But otherwise, that money really should be focused on defense.

i was saying recently that the garland decision is coming just as quickly as the boeser one. you know exactly what garland is now and they don’t need to drag out that final year of his deal, vs with boeser it made sense to wait and see how things went.

Look im not gonna pretend to know whether the Miller Pettersson situation is tenable but if it's not then either one can go to get it where it needs to be. And i wouldn't be kissing Tocchets ass to make the right decision for the long term either. Any of Miller Boeser Garland or Pettersson could be involved for a player like Cozens.

Re: Pettersson and Miller the last thing i would want is to trade either if i'm comfortable knowing that the best playoffs with these 2 are still in front not behind.

if not a Byram Cozens deal is a fine place to get things started. Both are entering prime engine years and will be more impactful on the grand scale

Ideally Boeser or even Garland would go the other way but like many have mentioned i think the smoke around the Sabres is teams looking to chisel away a young core piece (Byram Tuch Cozens) them saying not a chance unless you want to send us a top line PPG play driver then ending in Joki Zucker Greenway Quinn Samuelsson discussions

Can't see them Messing with the Boeser or Garland chemistry/locker room fits if both want to stay here as it appears.

Hog and Vinny are on the way out so that's five millions for next year, but still not enough so somethings gotta give ...

In my reading seems like they’re sorta already setting it up for a potential Boeser trade. Rutherford basically said it would be resolved one way or another by the deadline, and recent leaks have called it a “tough negotiation”. Personally, I don’t think he’s a player they’d have much reservations moving given his age etc.

I guess where we differ is that I wouldn’t be excited to get Cozens back in a swap for EP/Miller. I think Cozens future is at RW and I’d be looking to get a definite center in any return package.

I think they are setting it up like that, but my guess is that Boeser signs at a reasonable deal at like $7.65x7 and the set up will already be there for a Garland trade, which wouldn’t really surprise me.

Given how much the team raves about Garland and continually places him in positions of importance and he delivers, I'd be absolutely shocked if they trade him. He's one of the few consistent play-drivers on the team.
