So in summary (someone correct me if I'm wrong) -

- Friedman pulls a wild Vancouver/Buffalo proposal seemingly out of thin air
- Dhaliwal says the Canucks and Sabres have talked
- Dreger says that well placed sources say there isn't anything going on between Vancouver and Buffalo
- Pagnotta says the Sabres and Canucks have talked about Bowen Byram
- Buffalo has a scout in Vancouver last night
- Canucks have a scout watching Buffalo tonight

Is that all about right?
i would add

-pegula just went to the sabres players and told them nobody is getting traded

-it is the week before christmas and a trade move right now is going to piss off the players moved, teammates of the players being moved, players around the league who don't like things like that happening right before christmas, and the agents of all the players who comment on it.

-the canucks just played an excellent game

?trade?
Tried to stay out of conference
Some thoughts are not complete as I wa trying to keep them to one sentence so rough ideas

Boeser + for some and some create cap space for future deals this year. BB is essentially a rental.

to Minnesota for Jiricek and Trenin - RHD depth and a large boards guy, 3.5+ cap space increase
to Buffalo for Samuelsson and Cozens - top 4 D and younger faster C/W close in pts - Cap neutral
to Columbus for Sillinger and Voronkov - two C/W - cap relief - might be a plus added, 3rd?
to Utah for Crouse and Kesselring - Big winger and RHD - cap relief
to Pitts for Graves and McCroarty - Scoring winger for Crosby or Malkin - cap relief and future W/C
to StL for Saad with retention, A. Jiricek, a pick - Winger with experience and future defence
to NYI for Dobson Canucks add in Willander, Deharnais, pick and retention to equal 6.7 mil
to Boston for Frederic, Geekie and Lorhei. may have to add Deharnais or pick

Minny might because they have huge cap space next year
Buffalo to shake it up and get a veteran scoring winger that may sign next year
Columbus for the same thing
Pittsburgh so Crosby/Malkin get another crack, this could be an earlier trade.
Utah would want to make a market smash as the only show in town
St Louis is on the cusp and already are shopping Saad,
NYI might think the combo of Horvat/Boeser might ignite the old chemistry and Dobson's is unlikely maybe Romanov but then they would add.
Boston, they do seem to like Canucks players, Frederic is already rumored the other two could fit for depth.

Then there is Deharnais who might be included if a dman is coning back, the Canucks might have to use retention but if the final number is still Boeser's contract then it is cap neutral

There is not much of a chance they can resign Boeser with the limited cap space and upcoming contracts. The core could also use a shake up. If you feel for Boeser then think of his trade as rewarding his for 8 years of not winning and getting a clean slate with the market/fans, no history.

Getting Bowen Byram would be sweet. I doubt Petey is traded. I don't even know what Buffalo needs at this point - the team just isn't able to put it together despite seemingly having good players throughout the lineup.

Id imagine it starts with something like a 1st + Hoglander + Raty but that could easily be outbid.

Just do the Kakko and Hoglander swap already. Drury is in the hotseat, nows the time to take advantage.

heck
Imagine if all this ends up being Hoglander for Jordan Greenway (50%)

I believe the Canucks were interested in him in the past, and they're rumored to want another winger. Could also be Zucker but he carries a higher cap hit
Alright it's probably not Greenway, he's not even playing in the Buffalo game they sent a scout to watch

Edit: turns out he's injured

LMAO Trotz, what a f***ing clown. Who is gonna give up a 24 year old offensive C? Benning level management. He's about to give up the Lightning or Vegas 1st for like, Morgan Frost. Idiot.

how about a 26 year old C? :sarcasm:

Josi (50% retained) + ROR + Luke Schenn for Petey

Canucks scout at the Buffalo/Montreal game

Lou Crawford lives in Montreal, IIRC. don't think this is anything notable

Buffalo can't take on futures. They need help now. So, I don't see what Van has that can help Buffalo as they need to turn things around.

Byram and Poolman is a bizarre comparison - unless he just means the potential concussion issue?

I love Byram and would love to have him on Vancouver. But I feel the cost to acquire him would be very steep.
Buffalo definitely shouldn't be looking for futures either. They have an awesome prospect pool already.

They could, and should, do what the Canucks did to acquire Hronek. Trade a piece for futures then flip those futures for a different piece.

Or barring that, trade their picks and prospects for another piece.

How desperate are the Rangers for JT? Would clean them out for assets + K'Andre or Schneider and then use those assets to get Cozens or something.

The 'JT needs a reset' eventually escalates into 'JT needs a change of scenery' looms terribly large in my head (and it surprises me people here are so zealously ready to trade Petey when the possibility of this Miller thing escalating and leaving the Canucks holding the 0 centers bag).

Canucks
  • Word is getting around the league about what the Canucks are looking for
  • Looking for a top-4 defenceman and a winger
  • Intent on trying to acquire a top-4 defenceman
  • Rutherford’s desire to trade way ahead of the trade deadline is well-established
  • Wouldn’t surprise Lebrun if they get this done sooner rather than later
  • Certainly making their calls
  • Understand what their team is and ready to act
Blue Jackets
  • Ivan Provorov’s younger brother has committed to Ohio State University
  • The Provorov family really likes Columbus
  • Provorov is open to an extension
  • Haven’t been any contract talks between Blue Jackets and Provorov
Upcoming Contracts
  • Agents and front offices aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on what the next set of contracts will look like with the salary cap going up significantly this off-season

Alright, Rutherford. Go out and give Byram an early Christmas gift; freedom from the Buffalo Sabres.

Trading away two 1C caliber centers (Pettersson and Miller) is the the natural iteration for a club that traded away two starting goaltenders (Luongo and Schneider).

To be fair, both of those trades worked out for us. Schneider led to us drafting Horvat who, in turn, led to Hronek. Considering both will play significantly longer than Schneider was a #1, I'd say we did well there.

Luongo was more... sheer dumb luck. We got Markstrom out of that trade.

Potential injuries aren't really different for any players, the risk is there every game, and Byram is still an RFA.

I was trying not to get excited about a possible big trade but the EF info on top of the other things you summarized previously... There's a ton of smoke billowing.

Given the circumstances in Buffalo, maybe very steep isn't as accurate as it once was, they're getting desperate. The fit between the two teams for multiple, multiple possible pieces is really too good to ignore.

Looking at our cap sheet, it's pretty efficient. We're arguing about which bottom roster piece to cut to save a few dollars... it doesn't make sense.
Surely management sees this and the difficulties it creates trying to add pieces, this season and after, including Boeser and now Lankinen...

Byram is basically perfect fit for what this team needs, in all aspects, add in a potential Willander and the defense is suddenly completely stacked when healthy.

We have what Buffalo wants and they have what we want, somethings gotta happen either big or small , I'll be shocked if it's nothing 3/4 weeks from now.
