miller turns 32 in a couple of months and already has a lot of mileage on him. if this team moves pettersson over him they better really nail the trade AND have a plan for replacing him at C. getting some middle of the lineup pieces and draft picks isn't going to cut it

I need to post this here also, because it's really important imo.

I’ll even go one step further, look at this shit, this makes me sick.

JT Miller stands up for Quinn Hughes, look at the bench, those are the people that need to be held accountable, not the guy protecting the captain of the team.

Makes me sick too. We have a bunch of softies.

Id start by getting rid of Hoglander and Heinen. $3.35M to skate up and down the ice. I really don’t care how many first to the puck per 60’s those two have.

Mentioned he heard he does not practice well, not the easiest guy to coach, on the most part wants to be left alone, is particular about his linemates.

Not sure if it's his opinion or things he is hearing.

Lots of smoke going on

I'm no Petey defender (during this stretch at least) but they would have traded him before extending him if it was this much of an issue.

I'm not high on Cozens, perhaps there is still something there, but if that's a piece to the Canucks, were I Allvin, I would position it as helping Buffalo get out from that contract.

If it were Cozens/Byram and a piece like Benson, would that move the sub's opinion from no to maybe? I know y'all keep bring up Power, but that's probably a piece that they don't part with. Byram needing a contract and Power locked up long term probably swings it.

I watched last night's game, and I thought Byram was actively trying to make things happen and looked great out there. Power looked like what his detractors have been saying about him, doesn't use his size, is more oriented offensively and a wallflower.

If they're desperate to make some changes, expiring Byram, Benson and Cozens as a cap dump is how I would angle it for Pete.

As exhilarating as last season was for Canuck fans, I'm beginning to wonder if that kind of 'one-season breakthrough' might prove to have been a serious disadvantage.

It's now clear that it dramatically raised the expectations of 'Canuck Nation' to perhaps unrealistic levels. It was never possible from the very outset for a lot of these guys to replicate last year's success.

Because in the 2023-24 season the Canucks were remarkably healthy. This season is probably more typical with Demko, Joshua, Hronek and Miller all missing significant chunks of time.

As of this writing, the Canucks are clinging to the last wildcard spot in the West. And that may be their lot this year--flirting with the playoff bar all season.

It certainly looks like Vegas and Edmonton are starting to pull away in the Pacific. And people waiting for the Kings to falter, might be in for a long wait with their best d-man Drew Doughty back in the New Year.

So it wouldn't be a stunner to me, if the Canucks actually missed again this season. But the key is to keep building out their roster with younger, more talented players rather than blowing up their future with TDL acquisitions.

But I'm not concerned about Allvin and Rutherford at all. I think they have a very real grasp of where this team is at, and what needs to happen moving forward.

We need someone who is willing to muck it up. Guys like Heinen, Aman, Hoglander aka guys who are not doing anything should be replaced with guys like Sherwood who has been a difference maker this season. Garland does so will with Joshua for this very reason, he creates so much room for him. Same goes for Miller with Boeser/Hughes. Even a guy like Debrusk who goes into the dirty areas opens up EP's game. I'd honestly target someone like Josh Anderson from Montreal if they're willing to retain, and Mathieu Oliver from CBJ. Our forwards are just too damn soft. While having a guy like Sherwood is nice, he doesn't scare anyone. At some point you need guys with size who can lay someone out.

The starting point is Byram, Tuch, and Tage. Anything else they can negotiate with someone else.

I honestly don't think Benson is valuable or a good fit for this team. He isn't even that productive and has no utility elsewhere. Buffalo is going to want more for him than he is worth.

Getting a young C back is the most important thing. Would be scared to take on the Cozens deal but would probably do it.

Matt Sekeres is going in hard on Petey and management right now, interesting stuff.

Did he mention Quinn Hughes’ needing an IV or not?

Would love to have Byram on the team, but I can't think of a realistic trade involving Pettersson that doesn't absolutely tank our center depth.

Any deal for Pettersson would have to include Thompson+Byram, but Thompson is a defensive liability who will be in Tocchet's doghouse very quickly. He also operates from the same spot as Miller on the powerplay.

Something around Tuch+McLeod+Power would probably be fair value, but then you're paper thin down the middle.

Hughes still played more than 27 minutes in a game the Bruins totally dominated for 60 minutes. And he's trying to play with the handicap of being encased in a plastic bubble to protect a serious facial cut.

Frankly it's ridiculous. We're barely 30 games into the season and since Hronek went down, Hughes' minutes are reaching 'unsustainable levels'. I have a bad feeling about this.

Byram produces near-elite offensive results at ES and has for basically his whole career. 5th in the NHL in ESP for D this year. He would be an impact player here at 2LD which is by far the biggest hole on the roster.

Cozens is .... meh. I didn't love him as a prospect, was surprised when he broke out a couple years ago, and his recent performances are more in line with what I saw when he was 18 or 19. Given his contract, I'm not even sure if he's a positive-value asset. $7 million for 6 more years for a guy who is at about 30 ESP/82 over the past two seasons.

JT Miller is too old to count on as this team's number one centre going forward. I'll take the PPG, defensively responsible 26 year old, thanks, warts and all. This management team has gotten lucky in the past when they've tried to bail too early (Garland, Boeser). If they are actually shopping Pettersson, I hope they fail once again.

especially if it's a tocchet thing. he's 60 years old and coaches are hired to be fired in the nhl. who knows who will be coach three or four seasons from now

I’ve been saying since the start of the season that I would trade Pettersson before his NMC kicks in—even if it means likely ‘losing’ the trade.

His no-show in the playoffs last year was worrying—and his reticence to perform at the start of the season was damning.

Yes, one superstar is better than two good players.

But two good players is better than one no-show.

I'd rather have Mcleod at $2.1MM with a couple more seasons of control after the current than Cozens. pretty good ES production, maybe some upside if his hands ever catch up to his feet and solid defensively with ++ pk utility.

This entire exact drama with Pettersson has happened multiple times in the past with different management and coaches. Some of the stuff leaking today - like Pettersson being difficult about linemates - we already heard back in 2021 when there were reports that he refused to play with certain players.

The guy is just an insanely high-maintenance player and person. There has barely been a point since 2020 where there hasn't been drama about his level of performance, drama about him potentially forcing himself out of town, drama about injuries and how injured he actually was, or all of the above.

But in the end any Pettersson trade you make - except maybe Pettersson for Brady Tkachuk - you probably lose.

i don't disagree with any of this but i think if you can accomodate a player of pettersson's talent you do it even if it means you need to change the coach or trade a lesser (or significantly older) player

The rumors are starting to get out of hand, perpetuated by some clickbait content peddlers.

The rumors don't start getting out of hand until we see the "Soandso is looking at houses to purchase" or "My friend works in X Organization and Soandso is being traded to Vancouver"

I feel like they've basically doing everything imaginable to accommodate him for the last 4 years.

Firing the Jack Adams winner to accommodate your pouty star player who no-showed in last year's playoffs is how you create a team with zero culture or accountability.
