One of the Bruce seasons where Podz played consistently with Petey, he did actually look competent. But like you and @Vector noted, it's not like he really profiled by this point as a noteworthy prospect, which is why my reaction to trading him was basically "shrug".
I'm just saying, the only way Podz was ever going to be A Guy in the NHL was as a third wheel to elite linemates. And that a team that is using him that way is actually getting some utility out of him is not surprising.
Myers is an old regime guy, but he's also one of the new regime's Guys. He's big and likeable. Those are basically the preconditions to being a Tocc favourite. Hoglander is an interesting case. Allvin sees something in him, but Tocc does not want to use him. I predict he will be gone in fairly short order.
Pettersson
- Early this season, when Pettersson was struggling, the Sabres called the Canucks and the teams talked
- We know the Canucks have liked Bowen Byram for quite some time
- Canucks like Alex Tuch but have been told he’s not available
- Cozens production isn’t great
- Byram has concussion issues and is in a contract year
Pettersson does not yet. Kicks in next season, which is why speculation has been so high. You guys do realize that both Miller and Patterson have no movement clauses. They would have to wave, which would mean we are bargaining from a position of weakness. If you wanna get insane on making a trade send Hughes to New Jersey for whatever haul you can get. I would suspect that you could get a top player a prospect and three unprotected firsts for Hughes. And would probably make New Jersey Stanley Cup favorites.
No it doesn't. Before he last year the team had really bad defence but the PP wasn't horrible.Trading Hughes means going full-blown rebuild mode.
They can reunite Pettersson-Mikheyev!Call up Chicago and see if they have doubts about Bedard and willing to discuss a deal for EP.
are we watching the same teamNo it doesn't. Before he last year the team had really bad defence but the PP wasn't horrible.
Hughes is only one player but his asset value far outstrips his overall impact on the team.
Lets say they trade him for McKenna at the 2026 draft with more assets included. Then use the additional cap space to sign a couple of stout dmen. By that time the team could have Jiricek and Willander both under cap control.
It is great that he won the Norris but then rookie of the year a couple of times hasn't resulted in team success, helped but not much progress.
He knows both teams have contacted each other and he’s just trying to connect the dots.Byram and Cozens for Pete would be a disaster for us and the cherry on top.of the f***ing cake for how the first 3 months of this season has gone for us. Not sure why Friedman would even mention that if it was not true though.
He is fun to watch, he is a great skater but what has the team won? It is a team game and wins are supposed to be the standard of success.are we watching the same team
Buffalo Sabres
Dylan Cozens
- Has reported that a lot of teams are calling the Sabres about calling
Jim Rutherford’s Comments
- If the Sabres were committed to move Cozens, the Canucks would call
- Amount of teams that have called on Cozens has been very high
- Sabres have done pretty much everything to try to win
Brock Boeser
- Rutherford gives the media clues
- Says Dhaliwal is the most plugged-in guy in the market
- Canucks want to see how this goes with a mostly healthy roster
- Rutherford has a wishlist and if he can get those players, he will do it
- Rutherford likes to make trades early and doesn’t like to wait
- Challenge is they want to see what they look like with the roster they have now but also wants to strike early
- Allvin is cut front he same cloth
Dylan Cozens & Bowen Byram for Elias Pettersson
- Rutherford’s comments on Boeser were benign
- Mutual interest from the team and players on signing an extension
JT Miller
- Was spitballing on his podcast
- Thinks the Canucks and Sabres have talked to each other
- Does not know if that’s the exact combination of players the teams have talked about
- Sabres have players the Canucks like
- Canucks interest in Byram has been reported in the past
- Does think the two teams have talked about players
- Can see the Canucks being interested in Cozens & Byram and the Sabres being interested in Pettersson
- Something about the Canucks’ mix that coaching and management does not like
Vincent Desharnais
- Thinks that he is a unique personality in that room
- Very demanding of himself and others
- Sometimes we look at people that don’t show outward emotion and believe they don’t care about winning; that kind of thinking is just stupid
- Canucks are all working on together is that Miller can be demanding but understanding where the limit is and other players need to be more accepting of his demanding natures
- Finding “the line” in what’s acceptable
- Friedman is standing up for Vancouver reporters for giving Miller space about his absence
- Just hasn’t worked out
- Trying to see what options are available and are willing to consider a few things
- Some of this is for cap reasons
- Want to be a bit more consistent with the line-up
Buffalo was calling earlier. The rumor is Vancouver has coveted Byram for awhile. IMO I would not deal for Byram because of the severity of his concussions.Byram and Cozens for Pete would be a disaster for us and the cherry on top.of the f***ing cake for how the first 3 months of this season has gone for us. Not sure why Friedman would even mention that if it was not true though.
Again, I mostly agree with you on Podz. I don't think my point about his upside and how to get it is that controversial. The tried Podkolzin as an energy guy with better players. His cluelessness defensively limited him to limited minutes. The final straw IMO was Game 82 last year against Winnipeg where he was lost defensively on 3 different goals and turned in maybe the worst performance of his career, after they'd been doing everything possible to get him to sort these issues for 2 years. Again : this player was not tossed away lightly in terms of either effort or time. They badly wanted him to be part of this team going forward. He just didn't do his part.
Tocchet wanted to use Hoglander just fine last year. Hoglander played the best hockey of his career under Tocchet. The organization extended him. Then he regressed to the garbage play that made Green and Boudreau bench him, too. It's so tiresome hearing that Hoglander's problems are Rick Tocchet instead of the bad habits and low IQ that have plagued him for pretty much his entire career. Tocchet was the only one to actually fix these things, albeit temporarily.
