Love Podkolzin, an absolute G, but Sherwood makes him redundant.
Still, wouldn't mind him over Heinen.
Hughes-Power-Hronek-Willander would be one heckuva a d core im not gonna lie.
If Willander can play in the NHL but he might not be that effective for a few years. If the Caanucks couldn't stomach a 2/3/4 dman for 5 mil I doubt a raw dman at 8 mil is an option. Maybe Samuelsson
Any deal for Pettersson only gets done if the root cause of his play isn't easily explainable and resolvable.
If the knee issue WAS legitimate and prevented him from a proper offseason of training but isn't expected to going forward, they'll ride this year out and as frustrating as it will be, they probably should.
If he's got an issue with the knee that looks to be chronic, or if there is an effort/engagement issue and it's creating friction with the team.....he'll soon be gone IMO.
Not a big fan of Tage or Cozens, but....
Byram + McLeod + their unprotected first would be interesting.
Very good defensive C who produces at ES, is a top penalty killer in the league and has the size/speed to go against the Mc's and Mac's.
mobile number 3 defender who would look awfully good next to Willander as soon as mid March.
A 1st round pick that looks like it could be top 5-10 is a big trade chip to play. whether they play it down the stretch (packaged with our own + other assets for something big), or incubate it until it's a known known it could return a piece that puts us over the top.
Is Kevyn desperate enough to stick his unprotected first in a deal?
IMO Petersson is trying to play Tocchet's hockey, often his hits are more than his shots. AND I still thought PCS was a bigger issue.
Tendonitis doesn't just go away and if it does it can come back at anytime. Rest at the onset is supposed to critical to prevent a chronic condition.
IMO stay away from Byram concussions get easier each one. And the team won't pay 6,7 or 8 mil for his next contract.
I still think Boeser for Jiricek makes the best sense. He fits under the cap and the team will have cap control for another 6 years. He has better numbers than Willander ever has had and NHL games.
Any Pettersson trade will be to the eastern conference or maybe Winnipeg but they aren't deep in assets. Maybe Ehlers and they might squeeze Yager, and a pick or two. But Ehlers isn't a Tocchet guy so not much chance for him. Tocchet guys would be Barron type players.
Petterrson would get quite a return.
JT Miller might get the most in return. Columbus could put together the best return and they need the push to make the playoffs. He is a playoff guy and the Canucks cap problems don't get better next year with the OEL going up to 4.75 mil and then Demko and Hughes needing huge raises just to keep this losing team.
This core has had only one season of winning hockey going back 8 years with mostly the same guys, Boeser, JT Miller, Hughes, Pettersson and Garland
You guys do realize that both Miller and Patterson have no movement clauses. They would have to wave, which would mean we are bargaining from a position of weakness. If you wanna get insane on making a trade send Hughes to New Jersey for whatever haul you can get. I would suspect that you could get a top player a prospect and three unprotected firsts for Hughes. And would probably make New Jersey Stanley Cup favorites.
Pettersson's kicks in in July, he is on the last year of his RFA status.
