Just wanna say if you can't resign Lankinen by the trade deadline then you trade him for a 2nd (hell you could probably even get a 1st).

Let's be honest. Demko is our goalie and will be starting in the playoffs. Do you really think it's a good idea to hold onto Lankinen (miss out on a high pick) just for 10 regular season games and watch him walk in the off season?

And if Demko isn't our goalie in the playoffs then you throw any dollar amount you can at Lankinen and lock him up.

Couldn't be more simple really.
I couldn’t disagree more. I think you need to go 1a and 1b moving forward with Demko. He’s proven to be unreliable in terms of health and should be starting 40-50 games.

I think you try to sign Lankinen for three more years at 3 million per of so and then roll both next year. The tricky part will be the year after when Demko’s a UFA.

The entire time I’ve followed this team, under several different regimes, they’ve never moved an asset at its peak because it was smart.

Usually, hold on until the asset dies or leaves for nothing.

It would be such a forward thinking move to build Demko up and move either him or Lankinen. Could probably get a haul.

I would move Boeser, Suter and anyone else I could. This team has a 0% chance to win with its defense as is. As they have already moved so many assets for rentals I really don’t think they can do it anymore.

Horvat?

I couldn't agree more. I've said many times we need to resign Lankinen and I'm 100% ok with keeping Demko too. It's what I prefer.

So my point still stands. If you can't resign Lankinen you have to trade him by the deadline.

Nothing bugs me more then letting value walk for nothing in UFA. Sell high buy low baby.

I don’t understand why people are talking about selling half the guys on the team. Are we not supposed to be competing in this window? We should be buyers, full stop.
We are buyers and we will be. But our window with Hughes is just opening. It's also a smart thing to keep the window open for as long as we can.

So if guys like Lankinen and Boeser are going to walk you trade em and recoup a ton of value.

Obviously plan A better be to extend them however.

I think that's where the talk of selling is coming from. Noone wants to blow the team up. We just want sustained success.

trying to get too clever and acting like this is a stock market simulator and buying low and selling high is how you get rich

teams should only really operate in two modes: sell anything that's declining in value and buy stuff that's increasing in value (rebuild) OR buy buy buy and sell only when you need to do so to make room to buy buy buy

vancouver should be in the latter mode as long as hughes, miller, boeser and pettersson are all on the roster and relatively healthy

Friedman can be so frustrating. On the one hand says rumors got out of control and crossed the line, and then drops his weird little "Miller has to bend, everyone has to bend" comment that will do nothing but fan the flames of rumors. He can be such a hack sometimes.
the hell does that mean. miller has to bend and everyone has to bend"? so the mgmnt has to keep a short leash on miller because hes the vocal one? and is and will at somepoint blow up at a teammate or coach?

Management realizes there’s puck-moving deficiencies= well duh should have thought of that during free agency.. now they have to rectify their mistakes by cutting loose with Vd and possibly other players.

The idea is that Miller and teammates need to coexist and meet in the middle. Like how normal human interactions work.

WTF, I wake up from my bourbon induced nap, fully expecting an Allvin Christmas miracle trade, and..... nothing?

Jeez, why do I even bother being a fan of this team? :shakehead
