Oh Gawd, Aquilini is super-susceptible to anything hockey guys tell him too... I wonder to what extent this kills a trade possibility.
was just thinking it probably did us a favor. Now Alvin has a perfect response to any dog shit offer C (word) Drury comes up with.

Remember when Garland asked for a trade at the start of last season, and didn't like it in Vancouver? Winning solves all problems. Unless the situation is so untenable that Hughes is saying "get this dude out," the Canucks can't afford to trade Miller for less than they dealt to get Lindholm last year.

Every time he's been on the block it's always been "well there's only 1.5 more years on the deal," or "he's 30+ now," and "his contract won't age well." The offers have always been shit too - the Rangers 3 years ago weren't willing to deal Schneider and a 1st (who over the last 3 seasons has been a 4/5 guy) for what amounted to an 80-100 point powerforward smack in the middle of his prime (half of which would've been at 5.25 million).

Even in a year where everyone's mad at him, he's still roughly a PPG forward who's shown to thrive in the big moments. If he was on another team last year when we were near the top of the standings, he would've been the first guy management was looking to acquire over Lindholm/Guentzel, and they absolutely would've given up a 1st + Lekk + Roster player to do it.

I'm not saying they have to win the trade, but these offers of Chytil + 1st are pathetic. It would be like the Wings two years ago offering Suter + 1st, except Suter is on a 4 million+ contract and one hit away from retirement. Trading Miller for what Ben freaking Chariot got 3 years ago is asinine unless again, its so toxic that your franchise player says get him out ASAP.

Not to mention, it makes Allvin look weak in any future negotiations. After all, if other GMs know he'll blink first, they'll simply wait him out in hopes of getting another favorable deal.

It's one thing to accept moving Miller for a little less than he might be worth. It's another entirely to get a guy debatably better than Pius Suter, one more struggling defenseman and a middling 1st.

This is legit getting to the point of fireable. It's ridiculous just how poorly they've handled this situation, and if it were a one off, I'd be willing to say "lessons learned." It isn't.
Meh...I don't know, a lot of speculation going on without any real facts. I'm not sure what management is supposed to do in a situation like this? Two of their best players don't get along but have managed to co-exist for several years and the team is finally getting some traction, then the whole thing goes south almost overnight. Is it Miller's fault? Is it Tocchet's fault? Is it Hughes' fault? Is it management's fault? Who really knows? I think PA and JR have done a pretty good job so far, other than some very large missteps on our defense...I'm not sure how this rises to the level of being a fireable offence since we don't have a lot of the inner details, but its definitely not a good look for the franchise.

i simply believe that the team is not 'trying' to trade him - but rather listening to offers, like i'm sure they are/have been on everyone. you aren't doing your job if you aren't.

considering all the BS and fan flaming going on there is no doubt teams called, and the rangers started putting something together, and i also don't blame the team on the one hand saying whatever let the idiots write their fiction because it could create some very intriguing interest and offers from around the league - might as well look what's out there.

and shockingly here we are

Fireable might be too strong, but the constant leaked information is getting absurd. And while I won't fault management for the feud that may haven spontaneously gotten out of hand, I will fault them for how poorly it was handled. Everything from Miller's leave of absence to Allvin's slamming Pettersson publicly and everything in between is just fanning the flames more and more.

This, on top of the Boudreadu and Pearson situations haven't exactly made management look good.

Typical Canucks Luck that they managed to keep a lid on pretty much everything except this one, of course.

The leaks are likely coming from the player/agent side, especially if Miller has stealth requested a trade, and other organizations. Not sure they can do much about that.

While I agree, at least in theory. The way it's been handled may well have completely tanked his value to the point trading him isn't a reasonable option any longer because we won't be able to compete.
It's on JT. He put the team in this spot.

We now know (as I suspected before!) that the reason for his absence was something so egregious the team had to tell him to get lost for a month. That is on JT. There is no going back after that. The league knows he's a toxic malcontent (with an NMC), and that's just not going to have much trade value regardless of how management "handled it".

I've said it before in this thread and I'll say it again: this is probably not just a Miller vs Pettersson thing.

I was actually pretty convinced by both players when they addressed it. I'm sure they don't like each other, but this isn't particularly about them being at each other's throats. If that was the case, the team would be telling Pettersson to suck it up and benching Miller every time he acts inappropriately

The problem is that Miller is a dick to everyone. The problem is that there was zero change even after his 10 game healthy scratch. The problem is that he's an absolute liability on the ice when he's not being sheltered with Hughes minutes. His minutes are decreasing steadily, showing that even the coach who has said so many supportive things about him is also losing patience.

This player badly needs a change of address.
Exactly. He pisses everyone off. This is why the club has come to this conclusion.

Hope it does.

The offers sound like garbage right now why not wait till the off-season where you get a line up of GMs? An in season trade is so difficult because a lot of teams know where they are at and have made a plan. Plus you have to deal with a more strict CAP deal mid-season.

Like this Chytil, Lindgren and a 1st rumour...
Chytil is a 26 year old injury prone 3C. Little upside more of a depth player piece.
Lindgren is a 26 year old declining and undersized RHD. His play has been worsening the last 2 years it looks more like he had a flash in the pan 24 yr old season on a stacked Rangers club. He has no upside he's tapped out as a 5D.
And the only valuable asset out of the deal is the 1st where apparently the Rangers wouldn't budge on protection.
So the one good asset we get out of the deal had limitations on its upside.

Don't care how volatile Miller's personality has been this year you don't trade a point per game playmaker pivot for that nonsense deal. Teams are throwing bad packages together hoping the Canucks buckle under pressure. Reality is they can e patie t and wait out the year.

From the “hurricanes talking picking up”yesterday morning… I have a gut feeling the trade happens today… let’s see

Canes fan perspective here…

Not sure about a trade going down today as the Canes play Dallas tonight and aren’t current carrying any extra bodies, so if a trade were to go down today, it’d have to be go down pretty soon to give the Canes enough time to fill out the roster for the game tonight.

This of course assumes that Kotkaniemi + Roslovic is part of the return.

On the prospect/pick side of any potential deal, I’d think that one of Nadeau, Unger Sorum or Morrow are being talked about. And I’d say that out of those 3 Morrow would be the least likely to be dealt based on open spots the Canes will have next year on the blueline. I could also see the canes’ 2025 first being the main piece coming back over one of their higher end prospects.
