Whoever said that Friedman said that a trade request from Miller was denied is full on stupid. Friedman said that he heard Miller asked for a trade but other sources denied that report and Miller hasn't asked for a trade.

It was Taj.

Well keeping Pettersson over Miller is the right choice for now. Hearing that this core isn't good enough to win a cup is probably the correct take aswell. Considering the amount of coaches this core has been through, it's time for accountability to fall on the players. Everything seems to be the correct call thus far, but if this Chytil, Lindgren and a 1st rumor is true. I am going to scream, it will set us back years and most likely lose us the leagues best defenseman. Not sure what to think right now.

They will absolutely not do a full rebuild, you can already see it in how they're trying to structure the Miller package, it's the same old Canucks M.O. They will try the same Benning route of getting NHLers in their early-to-mid 20s and flip whatever picks they get in separate deals.

The only constant between the two lines of thinking (Benning and Allvin) is that we have the same owner....so. Not that I disagree with what you said.

It really is 07/08 all over again, where Naslund/B.Mo get pushed out to make space in the locker room for the Sedins/Hughes to really take over. That wasn't nearly as messy as this is, as Naslund etc. were class acts on the decline vs. what we're seeing right now.

If they're going down this path, they can't mess up this trade like they did with the Kesler deal (different era) - otherwise it will set them back way too far to recover.
They're simply not going to get much of a trade package for Miller. He has an NMC, aging, big cap hit, and is a known malcontent. That's a lot of detriments to what people here seem to think is a premium asset. I don't really get why people are upset the rumoured trade packages are underwhelming. It is what it is. He doesn't have a ton of trade value.

I said before, if they're trading him, it's because they decided they have to move on. You're not winning the deal.
That's most of my frustration. Pick a lane, stay in it. Last year was great but I don't think management even expected that. That changed things the same way the 2009-10 season did. But, last year we were backed by probably one of the best single season goaltending performances I've seen, and I became a fan shortly before the Luongo era.

And I predicted the poor guy would injure himself because he can't quit on a play - to his own detriment. We've got Hughes and Demko, like, we should be building from the net OUT, no? There's a slim, nary impossible chance we get to eat our cake and have it too. I've never been struck by lightning, so I ain't counting on it.
They have to always be "competitive". They don't really get a choice to choose a lane. It's Aquilini.

I was about to guess.

Wow, an amateur who posts on Twitter and has done nothing of note in the hockey world, doesn't even write articles, summarizes and then posts in all caps when he gets any resistance was wrong?

Well, I for one am shocked. f***ing Taj man. That's like....the worst part of Canucks fandom.

It's been 2.5 years now and it's evident someone in management hasn't seen a clear path forward with this player. There's been a clear push at times to trade him.

I personally think there's been some sort of an internal power struggle. Whether it be owner vs GM or GM vs someone on the management team.
i don't doubt aquaman can veto any ep40 or miller trade. that could be it, but i'd expect some media reporting on it if that was the case.

i just think miller has outplayed his market value his entire career due to his known drama. when the team is up, you can't trade him, and when the team is down his value drops because he gets the blame.

if his value is as low as drance thinks then, right now, we have to see if the team can build on a statement game against the oilers and then whether miller can improve his value in a four nations cup. if we shit the bed again then we bite the bullet after the 4 nation cup. if not, there is zero upside to trading him right now. better to take our lumps this offseason.

There is no f***ing way you trade Miller for Chytil, Ryan god damn Lindgren, and a 1st. All Miller has done is perform and despite the reported locker room concerns, if you have solid leadership then it's mitigated. Drury is on the hottest seat right now - offer up more or get out. That team needs to win a cup in the next 2 or so years - get the best players and pay up.

I don’t get why people keep posting his tweets on this site when he’s repeatedly proven that he can’t be trusted to accurately quote someone.

Any package involving a 100 point centerman should atleast cost one of Lafreniere or Schneider.

Or two of Cuylle, KAM, Chytil, 1st rounder

Nothing less

Think it was just poor wording from Taj. He said “denied to him”, with him being Friedman but people reading it as Miller.

If this Miller deal goes through, it will be maximum chaos.

And on the day of Trump's inauguration.
f***ing hell. They're not gonna seriously try to do this during inauguration, right?

Cause if they do, I may laugh myself into a hernia.

We're not so different, you and I.

He wields influence irresponsibly. And if I've learned one thing from Twitter, it's that people's reading comprehension and command of the English language in general leaves much to be desired...especially without inflection or anything else that makes speech speech.

The current situation feels especially annoying because the team came close to threading the needle on the re-tool but just came up short on the defence this year. They had to bat .400 but they only got to .375. And now it all seems like it is falling apart as a result (though of course who knows what is causing the current situation).

They're still not favoured against the best in the West, even with a decent defense imo.

They showed the promise of taking steps forward. Incrementally improving. Getting wins at the margins. Had that continued, then maybe they get to an even bet with the best, but they weren't there yet.

To me, what is happening now is what should have happened since the beginning. They're just forced to realize it now.

Things I would look out for if they have decided that this core can’t get it done and they need to reset around Hughes/Pettersson/Hronek:
  • Miller traded for non-primary assets and futures just to get him off the team.
  • Boeser, Garland, and Suter traded before the deadline for futures.
  • Futures flipped for another defenseman.
  • Demko traded for whatever his value is—and re-signing Lankinen to be our 1A.
  • Players like Myers (who represent the old lockerroom) bought out or traded this off-season to fully reset the vibes.

That statement has to align with them keeping Pettersson. That this core around Pettersson and Hughes is not good enough, and they're right. (Finally)

Now starts the longer re-tool they should have done initially.
And then your whole theory goes to shit when they proceed to trade the 2 1st and whatever to get 2 players by the TDL.

Garland better not be going anywhere.

I'd be pissed.

He could end this by saying "I signed here long term because I want to be a Vancouver Canuck, I have a NMC and I plan on exercising it, I don't want to go anywhere.". He hasn't said that, which means he is likely open to the idea of going elsewhere and his agent is probably working with management to facilitate a move to a few select teams of the Miller family's choosing. I don't think he's pissed off.
That’s a fair point
