Laine is most probably a generational talent up there with Sundin, Forsberg, Selänne, Kurri etc, amazing player.
Goalscoring wise yes. He isn't on the level of any of who you mentioned. He's regressing in both of points and goalscoring this season. He's got a long way to prove that he should even be mentioned in the same sentence as constant producers in Sundin and Forsberg along with Selänne

I agree he is "struggling" but needs to be said he is still doing great with alot less minutes ^^

Nah, now youre reaching. Of the finnish players, I think Barkovs going to end up being the best. Not in that tier you just mentioned, but in the Zetterberg, Kopitar one

We will see what happens, Jets looking really, really good this season and I consider them one of the Stanley Cup contenders, we will see how Laine procuces under pressure in the playoffs.

And Laine got two years to get Selänne's level ;) (Not saying he will)

Our PP is below all acceptable standards. How is it even possible to be this bad at scoring goals when you have more players on the ice?

I wouldn't surprise me to see Sweden score next, it's so obvious when we "dominate".

Yep. I remember that one game from history particularly when we "dominated" Tre Knonor, what '0-5', only to break our TVs, and get drunken after the game was ended 6-1...

No Team Finland should ever fall in to the illusion of domination against Team Sweden, regardless of level of competition.

Yes. It has been awful so far. Makes you miss Elias Pettersson even more. At least Axelsson should get some minutes on PP.

I understand people desire to watch this kid play. But I somewhat disagree with people's criticism of Gronborg in this situation. It's not Gronborg's job to make this tournament more appealing to the audience. The only thing he should be focused on is winning gold. Despite the tournament not having NHL'ers, that is still the goal.

Dahlin ranks 3rd in icetime on his own club team. Him being the 7th defenseman on this olympic team isn't nearly as controversial as people make it out to be. The one thing I'll say is, Gronborg should either play Dahlin or he shouldn't have selected him for this team at all. Simply because having him in the press box can be disturbing for the coaches and the team, as media and fans constantly keeps bringing it up.
He ranks 1st in even strength icetime. The only reason he's 3rd in total is because he has not played PP1 at any point during the season.

0.65 ppg this season compared to 0.73 last year. I mean you are right but young players often have a dip the second year.

Generational goalscorers don't and won't have weak sophomore seasons.

Well, 26 goals so far this season isn't that bad though (12th in the NHL) considering we all know he can do much better than this, a decent slow start/sophomore season. Jets is a Stanley Cup contender this season and Laine will get many more chances this season proving his value and talent, it's up to him now.

We know how glutch Laine can be. Nobody would surprise if he just makes high goal scoring streak of several games. Ovi is current leader with 34 goals, Laine has 26. Ovi scored 7 of his 34 goals in first two games of the season. Laine has failed score hattricks this seasons, but with him it would be hardly amazing breaking news line if that happens. He leads league in PPGs, and if there are any sense in Jets front office (evidently there are), he will have opportunities in PP1, even if otherwise 'underperforming'.

By no means we can consider Laine's sophomore season "weak".

Would be nice to see Patrik in Olympics, tho.
