This American team will be decent and a threat to any 1/4 final opponent if they gel and find their mojo.

Matthews is good.

Larkin led all US players in ice time and shots on goal. Matthews was second in both categories.

Matthews's great game will get lots of attention, and deservedly so, but I'd like to note Larkin has played with very impressive poise and confidence in the first two games. He's gonna be something when he moves to centre full time in Detroit.

This is the stuff I like to hear. Can't wait to see Larkin develop more. He's so fun to watch out there.

Finish fans real quiet now.

Fans from an emerging hockey country like the US might consider it important to have their boy drafted first but I assure you that it is irrelevant to most Finnish hockey fans whether Laine is drafted first, second or 300th overall.

And this is why I avoid this threads. Sigh.

Generalizations are a lot of fun... :handclap:

I am sure a lot of US fans don't care where Matthews goes, they have had guys go #1 before and will again. He will go #1 because he is the best prospect in this draft. He also plays a more important position.

More important is for a decade our national teams weakest link has been centers in my opinion. Eichel and Matthews look to be long-term answers for what runs down the middle when we show up for best on best tournaments.

With Larkin, Tyler Johnson, Bjugstad, Galchenyuk, Trocheck and others like perhaps Wise it looks like a problem since the Golden Generation of American hockey is finally about to be answered.

Well the Toronto Sports Network (TSN) is pumping his tires full time. It's pretty funny actually.

Well at least the US bounced back. Though penalties were pretty out of control at times for both teams.

Have to say Maroon should be given a few copies of the rulebook. This guy is getting out of hand. His war against the crease just can't be stopped.

Good game for Larkin, good game for Matthews. That's probably going to be a recording since most of the offense is going to have to go through these guys.

Best of luck next time for Belarus. If they can avoid getting into penalty trouble they might have a better chance.

Full time? If you want to blame the Toronto-bias at least be accurate. All the Canadian sports networks are going to pump the tires of both Matthews and Laine for the next couple months. They want a debate and controversy for first overall to get people tuning in more. Just hyping up Matthews wouldn't do them any good.

so is matthews better than eichel

I still prefer Eichel to be honest in terms of that debate. It is getting a lot closer for me though than it used to be.

Matthews didn't become the #1 prospect or talking point just because the Leafs have the #1 pick. He entered the year as that guy, he was being talked about all year without any understanding of who would have it. My guess is he is being talked about a little more than maybe the last couple years because talking the draft is the focus of the Canadian markets with no teams in the playoffs.

That's BS. Finns have been overly insecure about this draft for a year now. Two of the best prospects they've ever had and there's still some stupid American that's better. It seems to drive a lot of Finns crazy.

A couple of individuals might be that way at most. I would rather not have them drafted at all so they could stay in Europe instead.

How does the draft ranking matter anyway? How will they do on ice is what matters.

Easy now...he was talking tongue in cheek

You may in fact be a Canadian I' don't know. In Canada Toronto is the all knowing, all encompassing centre of the universe lol. A least Torontonians think so. :shakehead:shakehead
