Laine looks like he belongs when they play tough like that. Strong kid

Pretty good period by Canada. Stay out of the box.

We've dominated the play in 5 on 5.

When the opposing team spends the first 5 mins in your zone, you know you have to shape up. Finland had some good chances, but Canada seems in control of the game.

Canada just focusing Laine. They should have just continue their own game. Now they let emotions effect too much.

Laine with some up and down moments in that period. Really dangerous when he gets his feet going like on the 2v1, but without space 5v5 he hasn't been too noticeable. Always dangerous on the PP.

It is one of the few things a player can actually develop in terms of core skills at the NHL level.

But who knows if he does? He could get stronger, yes, but he may not get any quicker and that will hamper him in creating chances for himself and his linemates on a smaller ice surface.

What a great period of hockey played. Who says there needs to be scoring for a game to be exciting and fun to watch?

Laine looking dangerous. Canada's speed is really evident in this game. Canada has to stay out of the box, the Finnish PP is looking solid

Can you guys imagine what kind of hype Laine would bring if his homeland would be Canada?

Canada is use to great players at the top of the draft. It's more of habit attitude, then hype. Stop acting like there is some bias against Laine. Fact is an American is the best prospect, and then 2 Finns, which no matter what is great for both countries. I've heard nothing but praise for both Mathews and Laine from the Canadian broadcasters and media.

Patrik laine who?

He is freaking lethal,

No wonder they compare him to Lemiux

Finnish PP is scary

First one was pretty ineffective as Canada won the puck battles on the boards. The PP1 unit keeps looking cross ice for Laine. Any Canadian player who has PKed against Washington or Tampa Bay knows to keep a stick in that lane. Laine has been stripped a few times when his space has been taken away in that spot. Nonetheless, the thing about the Wash/TB PP design is that it only takes one mistake for a goal to happen and there are 2 periods left.

But who knows if he does? He could get stronger, yes, but he may not get any quicker and that will hamper him in creating chances for himself and his linemates on a smaller ice surface.

1. His top speed is fine, it's his acceleration that needs work, which can easily be worked on.

2. His skating has improved leaps and bounds in the last year+ already, so there's no reason to think it can't improve.

3. There are plenty of examples of players who improved their skating. Look at Draisaitl for a recent example.

But who knows if he does? He could get stronger, yes, but he may not get any quicker and that will hamper him in creating chances for himself and his linemates on a smaller ice surface.

You can get quicker and faster. It happens so nuch it is damn near common.

Keep in mind the kid is 6'3 or 6'4 so they tend to just appear to be moving slower than other guys.
