It was definitely a great thing to witness. With fans like that I hope they manage to stick around the Top 16 for a while.

Congrats Hungary! This is awesome win! So happy for you.

Don't worry, France will do the work against Belarus, they will crush them and send them down.

They've been miserable all tournament though, and if they play anything like on Monday they don't stand a chance to steal a point from France. Always have felt Belarus was overrated, but I even feel a little bad for them because they believe so much that, is it Dave Lewis, I think so, has got the program turned around and they'll be great soon or something like that.

You are going waaaay overboard. Sure they lost and have played bad, but the roster is totally fine and should have never lost to Hungary.

That said, congrats Hungary, awesome to see you succeed.

Shame it wasn't actually live on TV...

Really? The TSN crew mentioned that apparently the games in Hungary were drawing HUGE ratings - 2 Million + viewers. Which is like 20% of the population of the country. I found that number shocking. Would be a shame if they could not watch this great moment live.

Gotta wonder if we'll start seeing progress in terms of possible NHLers coming from Hungary in the next few years if there is such interest in the sport right now...

Not sure where La bonita is from. It was live in Hungary. We even have a 30 minutes studio talks before each game with experts and players trying to analyize the upcoming games and whatnot. Hockey is drawing more and more attention in Hungary.
Regarding our and Belarus's next game: I feel they have a better chance earning points than us. Having said that we'll try everything to clinch the last spot.

Ladanyi, Palkovics, Tokaji, Horvath, Szuper? :D Anyone of these? They are all big legends.

Never said the roster isn't fine, whatever that means. One of their best defenseman at moving the puck is Gotovets, who is 16 in 65 in the AHL this year and splitting time in the ECHL last year. Kalyuzhnys was invisible this tournament. I've always believe their "success" at the Skoda world friendlies was overrated but especially now that they can't even win at that...the direction is not the right direction if you don't realize. I know you're (strangely) part Belarus fan (part Latvia fan, how does that work) but you have to admit the well is drying up for them, even if you see talent coming in the far far future due to newly built infrastructure.

Sorry to see Belarus lose this game. We're kind of similar to them. Always underdogs, and they are our invisible neighbour.

See, is that it? I kinda get that, kinda don't. I think you'd be rivals, especially because there's a little smack talk sometimes, and ya'll go back but it seems ya'll are like Austria and Slovenia. Logically everything would make sense for a rivalry, but no, every time Slovenia is playing Austrian fans pull hard for them like what...?

Wasn't live on TV in Hungary... at least not on one of the main free channels... might have been on some paid one, I don't know, I don't get those...
And the Slovak TV showed russia instead of the neighbours in their own group which was pretty annoying too...

well what channel was it on then?

If there's videos of the goals with Hungarian commentator, I'd like to see one.

All of the Hungarian games are broadcasted live on Sport 1.
What do you mean under ' main free channels' we have like a dozen hungarian sport channels. Which one did you watch?
He is probably thinking of M4, because that's the only free sports channel, as it's provided by the government.

So how big of a news story has this become in Hungary?

Always good to see our game grow, seeing the fans who were in tears afterwards you could tell how much this meant to them. Story of the tournament so far in my view.

Huge, it's still on the front page of all main online newspapers (along with the Eurovision final). Obviously, those that are only reporting sports, it's pretty much the only thing they report on front page (the final of the handball championship is reported as a side story, despite handball being more popular than hockey).

Awesome.

It's good to see those loyal fans be rewarded with a victory, it was probably a moment they'll remember for the rest their lives. Might be a bit hazy after the party tonight .

Congrats again, well deserved. Huge respect, the hockey world toasts to Hungary on this day. You deserve to feel proud of this win and soak up the celebrations.

Wish I was there to party with the Hungary fans.

Good to hear that Hungarians care, maybe more kids will be inspired to start playing hockey due to all the hype.

Well, this will be phase 3 of that hype. The first one was in 2002, when two years after promotion from Group C, we beat Norway and were one game away from promotion (we lost to Denmark). A lot of kids started to play because of that game and subsequent successes of the NT. Then in 2008, the promotion to the Elite WC gave another huge boost to Hungarian hockey. And now this. A lot of our current players are products of the 2002 boost, the 2009 guys are coming up and I can only imagine what those kids who are inspired by this victory.
