Rieder is scratched (probably injured) and Flaake is dressed for him.
Braun is also playing instead of Ankert.

Germany looking good again. That pass by Noebels to Draisaitl was so good.

Sad for German hockey. Playing well and nobody cares.

That's a stretch honestly. But yeah, the sport just isn't that big, although I'm sure Germans would love it to see more. They need to advertise the NHL in Germany more. It works with the NFL, it might work for the NHL too.

Where would you rank hockey in Germany among the other sports?

Most important is that the NT is succesful. I remember the 90's (Hegen/Trunschka) when Germany was always in the 1/4 final and hockey was by far team sport nr.2. ARD and ZDF showed hockey this time.

Considering domestic viewership in the arena, it's 2nd but that don't mean jack. There is handball and basketball that get by far more publicity. Basketball mainly because of Nowitzki.

In the light of soccer there is no more room for markets to grow in Germany. Keep in mind hockey is an expensive sport and German wealth equality is at an all-time low (post WWII).

I hear you, that's right. The media doesn't help the market or stopped doing so.

While the attendance in the DEL is very high the media presence is pretty small.
I would say:

Football
Handball
Basketball/Hockey/American Football

Also depends A LOT on the area. Hockey was always more popular in southern Germany, football (soccer) in the northern parts. This trend changend even more within the last 10/15 years since Bayern Munich became even bigger and more successful.
Grew up in Rosenheim (Didi Hegen ftw!) which used to be a hockey mad town, nowadays more people go to a Bayern Munich game than the city can gather for a hockey evening.
Not blaming anyone outside hockey but Germany's a football nation, always has been and always will be. This case has been discussed so many times, let's get over it and enjoy the game vs. Belarus.
