Canada has a great team. But you Canadians seem to really forget that Germany is a team that in fact relatively often has given your national team problems. So I'm not that surprised how this game has gone so far. But Canada should still win in the end. The real surprise for me has so far been that McDavid has not been at all impressive in this tournament. I thought he was a generational talent. But now after what I have seen from him in this tournament I have to say that there's no way for me to see him as a generational talent.

With McDavids skating he should dominate in the bigger rink. And he has very good linemates and has been playing against mostly weaker teams so far. He makes way too many hasty decisions and loses the puck too much because of it. Also he hasn't really so far showed much of the special skills that he has been praised for in the NHL. I'm also starting to think what is going on with this boy? I hope he will pick it up soon though. But please not against Finland. :help:

The whole team looks terrible except Gallagher, Marchand, and O'Reilly.

In years past, photos surfaced of players like Getzlaf and Perry enjoying the local scenery at a bar before a playoff game. Canada lost in the QF and they didn't have a great game so the knives came out for those players.

This year, a twitter post a few days ago showed McDavid and others at the bar (and it was promptly removed) so, of course, that means these guys are partying 24/7, explaining why they look poor against Germany today. :sarcasm:

He has looked awful. It reminds me of the start of his NHL career where he was almost scared to do things himself. Always stopping up to make passes to his veteran linemates and trying to be the nice guy. As the season progressed we saw him start to take control. Todd McLellan even mentioned that Connor had to learn to take the game into his own hands, and he began to do so. We started seeing him absolutely dominate games as the season went on and I feel that may be a sort of similar situation here.

In Edmonton he had Hall, Eberle, etc who have been in the league for a while and I think he was trying hard not to look like a puck hog. In the world championships the roster is loaded with all star players and veterans. If I had to guess, McDavid is feeling like he has to look to pass to these guys at all times instead of taking the game over himself like he has been known to do often.

The thing I noticed in this tournament so far is that he isn't coming off the board battles with the puck 100% of the time like he did in the NHL. He always found a way to outsmart players like Subban, Weber, Pietrangelo etc in the corners to come away with the puck for a scoring opportunity but he seems like he's weak along the boards now.

Maybe he's hungover, or jetlagged, or timid playing with the big boys for the first time. Who knows. Hopefully he gives himself permission to take over before the tournament concludes.

Ah, so they were at a bar the night before last, before their day off?

They should all be ashamed of themselves! How can a professional hockey player drink when something so important is going to happen just 2 days from that time!!!!

For real though, they're playing like crap, who knows why, MOD

But what do I know, I'm just a random poster on here like everyone else.

Germany full value for the 2-2 tie at this pt. Our guys don't seem to have their heads in the game. Over-passing on the pp, trying to make fancy plays at the blue. ...Keep It Simple Stupid

Wait for a larger sample size. But yeah, he's been underwhelming so far as much as it pains me to say. He's not shooting the puck enough and deferring to his teammates too much. But if you actually watch the games you can see his superior skill shine through. I'm still waiting for him to just put the team on his back and take over like I've seen so many times before.

Give him some time we're only on game #4. Still lots to go, he's pretty determined guy so I don't imagine he is taking what's happening right now very well. A pissed off and inspired McDavid is good for Canada.

Germany has a really solid team this year, not something to underestimate.

Exactly. Of course, it is very, very surprising result so far. But Germany is no Belarus/Hungary/France.

I would enter the game only with a lot of respect for this Germany team. They are tough, hard working team with young coach who's very close with all players. They are led by young, upcoming NHL star (Draisaitl) / ex-NHL veteran (Goc) and they have Greiss on the bench waiting for the important games.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that these guys go out and enjoy the city with their families and friends while they're there. It's routinely blown out of proportion here though. I'm sure last year's team, the one that went undefeated, did their fair share of partying before games too.

Wow Dont know about that call on McD...Initially, I figured they had flagged the German Dman...

People are just pissed off we are playing like garbage, myself included.
