Sad to see a good hockey countery like Slovakia be in this position aswell! but you guys dont have your best players available for this tournament right?

Most of our best players will retire in 3-4 years and we have absolutely none of that quality to replace it sadly.

Slovakia can be glad to hold at IIHF rank 7-9 for at least 10 years for now.

Sad result. How was Reway? This guy..... sorry but when I see him in your first line I am just, let´s say very afraid. Same like if he lead Sparta to playoff....

My eyes still hurts from this game. This was nightmare.

Reway is huge disapointment to me on this WC, if he ever had chance to play in NHL after this tournament he don't deserve it.

Figure skating from our team..

Is it really that bad?

Slovakia in the future when old players have retired:

Tatar - Dano - Jurco
Cehlárik - Viedensky - Reway
Panik - Statstny - Hrivik
Bondra - Hudacek - Skalický

Marincin - Jaros
Kozak - Luza
Fehérváry - Cernak
Gernat - JánošÃk
Ceresnak

Those players are just typical average players, some exceptions are there surely like Tatar or Reway. But there is no depth elsewhere.

That is exactly 7-12 world rank IMO. So yes it is. We are not close to top six anymore and lot of future years we won´t. At least I think we are not declining right now. We grow average prospects at least 10 years. But some second rate teams are growing and surpasing us.

Tretyak at least does not tunel own country and does not own estate worth 15 milion eur on Bahamas...
We have too many white gypsies disguised as politics who milk a lot.
our parasite is much worse and more smooth than yours. still, there's some rumours of tretyak having some property in miami and participating in some shady businesses a couple of years ago.
the differences here is in how much money a country spends on hockey. and our tsar loves hockey. that's why despite all tretyaks's efforts we still produce one good player from time to time

Kahun is so much fun to watch. REALLY good player imo.

How is he undrafted? Crazy with all the speed and skillz he has.

edit: Looking at his stats... pretty good for a 20-year old in Germany:
Regular season: 12g/22a in 42 games.
Playoffs: 3g/9a in 14 games.

He's really undersized and in the NHL you don't have ANY time or space unlike WC larger ice. If Draisaitl would recommend him... he should play for the Oilers AHL team then work his way up. The farm team is devoid of any skilled forwards.

He isn't actually all that small, 5'11, the same size as Marco Sturm was. At least that's the official account, maybe he's a bit smaller than that. He also weights less thant Sturm, so that might be the reason he appears smaller than he actually is.

I don't think that there is anyone coming up from below who is going to overtake Slovakia. It'll probably be part of the 2nd-tier group in the future and have the usual ups and downs those teams have, but then again, that has pretty much been the case for the last decade already. Olympics are a different matter, but in the World Championship, when not all the best have been available, Slovakia hasn't looked all that hot over the last decade. There was the final in 2012, but beyond that there's only been one quarterfinal in 2013 plus another two back in 2006 and 07. That's worse than Switzerland, and not a whole lot better than Belarus or Norway over the same timeframe.

I'd say that as long as Slovakia has the best roster available, it and Switzerland will remain the first candidates for the spots behind the big six. With the occasional weak year if the roster isn't as good / someone else really surprises.

A bit OT... how does his teammate Steve Pinizzotto score 13 goals in DEL? More than Kahun too.

The guy is a face puncher with minimal NHL puck skills. I vaguely recall him being able to skate though.

Pinizzotto was more of a grinder than an enforcer. He showed he could produce at the AHL level, with two 40+ point seasons with Hershey. Scored 13 goals in 09/10 and 17 goals in 10/11 despite missing some games.

Kahun, whenever I have seen him play, has always striked me more as a playmaking winger rather than a sniper.

Remember back when they had Marian Hossa, Marian Gaborik, Zdeno Chara, Pavol Demitra, Lubomir Visnovsky, Miroslav Satan, Zigmund Palffy, Jozef Stumpel...yeah that depth chart looks pretty bad.

Tatar is like Handzus or Zednik in their prime. Jurco is a question mark for the future. Ciger also needs to get his poop in a group, still, the youth infrastructure exists for them to maintain their Top 8, Top 10 position.

I understand the frustration about Slovakia, having a population that small (well, except Finland :sarcasm:) isn't a benefit either, but why can't we give Germany credit for beating them? Germany could be so much more, but it's not like they're a bad or awful hockey nation as well. The better team won IMO.

This shouldn't be a huge surprise. There is no big 8 anymore, only big 6. The rest of the teams are more less on similar level. You won't have one team - eg. Slovakia - dominate other teams in this group regularely, like it used to be. It shouldn't be expected anymore, it creates unnecessary pressure and unrealistic expectation.
Germany was a better team yesterday, even in that first period... well deserved win.
