Eh...again, people overestimate Italy. Italy not only lost but they were thoroughly dominated by Bosnia.
Except they didn't lose. In a home-and-away tie they would have got the result they needed on the road.

And I don't care how bad you think Italy is, Canada is fortunate they didn't have to play them today.

Were clearly the better team today

However I think they will have trouble with bigger teams in the box. And the goaltending is probably not good enough to play for draws.
I really could see us getting killed in transition. We simply do not have the quality in the back and BIH squandered so many opportunities behind our disorganized backline. Switzerland is more clinical and can absolutely offer more.

Canada is better off ceding possession and dropping back against better teams, while hedging their bets on the counter.

Denmark and Italy would have made the tournament better. If they played home-and-away legs like they used to, I doubt Bosnia and Czechia would have made it.
If we got to pick two random teams to be here I’d pick Italy and Nigeria. But the style of play we saw this season is reflected by at least one team in these first three games, and it’s tiresome at this point. The set piece coach is killing this sport. The trend is going to be for every player to be as tall as possible and again short players will get pushed out of the game.

I mentioned Denmark because that's who Czechia qualified over.

Teams playing like this is nothing surprising to me, we're going to see a lot more of it too.

Italy blows.

Considering that is the team I have always cheered for in international competition it brings me no pleasure to say it, but they blow.
I do not fancy Italy but I wish they could really be relevent in football again.

People just hear "Italy" and think of the winning teams of the past. They have not won a single meaningful game against a top 20 squad since they beat England in 2021.

Italy is no longer relevent as a football nation and the fact Serie A is devoid of Italian players is proof of this.

I first watched the World Cup with my nonna. Her family was from Campania. She passed less than a year before the Azurri won the whole thing in 2006. :(

The answer to the question of "did you cry when they won even though you were an adult" is absolutely.

You cant play primarily on the perimeter vs this team and whip balls in. They have aerial dominance.....Canada needs to be attacking the middle more with slips and dropballs to runners in the middle. Plus, they don't give a eff about giving Canada a corner for obvious reasons, which gives them further adv defending crosses.
On the plus side, Jesse Marsch apparently realized the above at halftime and made appropriate adjustments and subs. On the downside, it took him until halftime to comprehend the obvious.

Team played substantially better once Marsch went all pace with Ali Ahmed, Promise David and Shaf.

Not that Tajon is slow, quite the opposite, but clearly he’s not in up form and still sluggish.

1986 - No goals scored, no wins

2022 - Goals scored, no wins

2026 - Goals scored, tie

Look out world, in 2030 Canada's gonna win a game!

All jokes aside, Canada dominated that game and should have won. Looking forward to the next one.

And then Lennart Karl will win the BdO at 4'0", leading everybody to want magical smurfs again.

I wouldn't judge the European teams by Bosnia..or Czechia. Somehow Eastern Europe has become a real hotbed of ultra-pragmatic unimaginative football. It might be because so many of the players in the last couple of decades plied their trade for mediocre and bad teams in France, England, Germany, etc.

Deschamps and Roberto Martinez will have their teams play exactly the same way when they meet quality oppositions in the knockout stages.

Super fun game. Amazing strike by Larin if it didn't get deflected.

I feel Canada should have won. I think that's two points dropped because they played BIH off the pitch in that second half.
