Sounds great, but I'm afraid they're going to have to find another way. The USA hasn't played well in a single game this tournament, but they will get inspired to beat Russia. This Russian team is leaderless, and if a team like the USA or the Czechs plays with energy and emotion, the Russian team will cave in and quit working. When they fell behind tonight, they just kind of bumped into each other for the rest of the game. A thorough humiliation well deserved!

I think Russia might beat the chronically inconsistent Americans on Friday (maybe, probably won't). But the Swedes will take care of business in the semi.

This Russian team just isn't good. They're not fun to cheer for. They have no heart. No creativity. I hate them.

Another one of those ignorant comments. Leave your garbage to yourself, please. Do you not know how to behave in a respectful way?

Well said. Its hard to cheer for this team because its hard to believe that any of these guys will respond to the challenge. The biggest disappointment is Buchnevich, whose stock with the NY Rangers has plummeted below the price of Russian oil throughout this tournament! I just can't buy into a scenario where they beat the USA, who absolutely love to trounce the Russians!

and before that they were great? we looked like crap in all games (besides few shortlived stretches in each game except with chezs) and you keep heaping one excuse after another to exonerate them.

It might be a case of false exoneration~

I wouldn't count the Russians out, I think they can overcome the US if they actually battle, like they did against the Swedes.

So you're saying Russians are like wolves? They need an Alpha Male to lead the pack? ;)

Actually, very well said. You made me think of an example of an alpha male, Slava Fetisov, who was the Captain of CSKA and the Soviet NT in the 1980's and early '90's. Both teams flourished and frankly, dominated, under his leadership. He led not by speeches, but by example, making big plays and showing the guys how to get it done! Unfortunately, there is no Fetisov on this team.

thing is, from what I've seen from their skill level, the Russian team seems well-equipped. They've got plenty of skilled forwards. Where they may lack is strategic positioning, defense and penalty kill. Maybe it's a psychological thing with them? They need to come out all guns blazing against the U.S., like in the Switzerland and Sweden games. Their last chance at redemption.

Was at the game. A good drunken time had by all.

Kind of a dull game though. But was fun to have the canada highlights, and at times, even just a straight up live feed, during breaks in play.

I rushed home from work to watch this game and by it's end, felt like I was ducked in a bucket of dirt. Never since Plyushev 1,5 line teams with the rest being "blatnye" have I seen such a disgusting, spiritless, shameful performance.
I got to give Czech credit, where it's due, but I haven't seen anything, except for desire to win and determination.

Well, last year we defeated the US in the quarters, hopefully we can repeat, although this team is way weaker...Probably gonna lose badly..

Where is Czechcanadian? I'm missing his pessimism! :sarcasm: :p:

Here I am... Healed of all pessimism. haha But I wasn't the only pessimist!

I really didn't expect this result. Who did? Don't tell me you did lol. But im really happy for the boys, they fully deserved the win.

Great result but this team could still be a lot better with better players and coaching decisions. But holy moly did David Kase ever come to play. He was very impressive all game and showed some great chemistry with Pastrnak. Pasta has been much better and played a dominant game here. Oh and don't forget about Gorcik. He was great.

Kubalik and Kampf should be dropped down to the 3rd line. They aren't good at all.

And the goaltending change was risky but turned out well. I liked the emotion Svoboda showed but other then that penalty shot he wasnt tested that much. Vanecek would have gotten the win too. I think the Czech defense should get the most credit. Klok finally played well and Kostalek was a beast.

Our Powerplay is dreadful and needs to be desperately worked on. that's if we want a chance at a medal. Bad coaching once again. Whys Denmarks so good? They put their best guys there. Im surprised Prerost didn't learn from that game. Wait... Im not surprised actually.

Anyways I think we need to play just as good against the Slovaks to win. Hot goalie in Godla and their PP is good. But I think I have faith in a win.. maybe...

No, I didn't, you're right :D

Yes, I agree that Svoboda wasn't tested much, but he did seem more confident than Vanecek. I would start him in the QF for sure.

Agreed about the PP, but I mean when has it ever been good?

Yeah, I'm concerned that they'll underestimate them.....still, they have it easier this time. They can win in an OT or shootout lol.

Well, it's time for Russia to move on from this match, take the most important lesson with them (that is, you have to play your best game in this tournament if you want to win) and focus on the U.S. match. If they play with heart and as a team, they may win the game.
