What a game! I understand the last period was boring to watch as anything but a Swedish fan, but that was a beauty as Swedish fan.

That was how you defend the lead. You don't turtle, you just continue to fight for every inch/ cm of the ice. You get some chances and you're not caught in your zone nearly as much as in a turtle. Very impressive watching 3 world class lines and 2½ world class bluelines defend a lead.

First win against Russia in whc/olympics since 2004 (I don't count 2016 Donald Duck Cup). I have high expectations on this team going forward.

My prediction? It will be Sweden - Finland in the gold medal game. Sweden wins with a close margin, because it's Suomi (even if their team is inferior, they don't care) and their fans know the soul of kalsarikännit. My favourite Finnish word, because northern Sweden is actually closer to Finnish mentality than Swedish, but I still cheer for Sweden. ;) Even if we have little in common with southern Swedes, relatively speaking.

Good game by Sweden, the Russians is also good and its tough to score on them, so I am happy of the result.

IT'S TIME FOR STATISTICS! Russia has 12-1-1 vs Sweden since 2005(!)

Russia has been a monster for team Sweden over the new millennium, in particular since 2005 Russia has been housing Sweden around in the main big tournaments but once. Here are the stats over their previous games and the number of points they managed to receive during the regular game round:

2005 (IIHF WC): Sweden 3-6 Russia
points: 8-8 (not same group)

2006 (IIHF WC): Sweden 3-3 Russia
points: 6-9
2006 (Olympics): Sweden 0-5 Russia
points: 6-8

2007 (IIHF WC): Sweden 2-4 Russia
2007 (IIHF WC): Sweden 1-3 Russia
Points: 12-15

2008 (IIHF WC): Sweden 2-3 Russia
points: 9-13

2009 (IIHF WC): Sweden 5-6 Russia
points: 10-14

2010 (IIHF WC): didn´t meet
points: 12-15 (not same group)

2011 (IIHF WC): didn´t meet
points: 10-7

2012 (IIHF WC): Sweden 3-7 Russia
Points: 18-21

2013 (IIHF WC): didn´t meet
points: 15-15

2014 (IIHF WC): Sweden 1-3 Russia
points: 18-21

2015 (IIHF WC): Sweden 3-5 Russia
points: 16-15

2016 (IIHF WC): Sweden 1-4 Russia
points: 13-18

2016 (WC): Sweden 2-1 Russia
points: 5-4

2017 (IIHF WC): Sweden 1-2 Russia
points: 16-17

If Sweden wins tonight, they would break a couple of old ghosts.

Some history has been made, both interesting and somewhat sentimental. One of the few histories have broken and will reset, Swedish coach Gronborg is the guy to make them both (if you count the 2016 WC).
The Sweden vs. Russia era of 2005-2017 will stay close just like that.

On paper, Canada should win but they haven’t been too impressive, we have our chance.

Canada is likely done in the QF, its one of our most underwhelming Canadian entries I've ever seen at this tournament thus far. Such a drastic change from the past 3 years. Enjoy the semifinal Russia.
