Fun game. Not much to complain about here.

Just to have fun nitpicking- I hope they break up the Mcdavid- Lazar- Ritchie line. Really not much going on there.

Would be fun to see Mcdavid mixed into the Crouse-Point-Virtanen line. He seemed to be most effective off the rush right now, and that just ain't happening where he is.

I was thinking that the McDavid line should be changes too. They just didn't seem to have any flow going tonight. That said though it was just the first game of the tournament and they could gel next game for all we know.

Every year it seems there's the goalie Team Canada kind of favours and then the one the fans want in net. I remember when Subban and Binnington were named the goalies. Everyone had Binnington coming out as our starting goalie but that never happened. As shown by JC Lipon playing, it's a different game going from the CHL to the WJC. Some players do well in the transition while others fall. Maybe Hockey Canada knows something we don't or maybe they know Comrie is a safe goalie while Fucale has the potential to steal the tournament for us and they want to see if he can show it off before the reins are handed to Comrie.

Fucale is also a returnee, so I think he's getting the 'veteran' status between the two.

The Petan hate the last 2 years was like the Gallagher hate from 2011. Remember when everyone crapped on Gallagher because he was small, and kinda scrappy (not uber skilled like a Domi) and then Gallagher ignited the almost-comeback against Russia.

Ditto for Petan. Kid is small, not the greatest stickhandler, but he can skate and boy can he shoot. So he will get crap until he does these clutch plays.

Couldnt disagree more about Petan and his stickhandling skills. They guy is unreal with the puck and I have seen him in huge games over the past few years. He is as dominant player in the WHL that I have seen. That kills me to say because i think he is a dirty little you know what that has no respect for the game. I cant stand the guy but man do I appreciate his talent for a guy his size.

In junior Gallagher was balls out and a fearless, Petan is more of a guy who has the puck on his stick the whole shift, especially the PP and picks his spots when it comes to physical play. Never will you see a guy more than him carve someone up behind the play, during stoppage of plays and against an unsuspecting player. I get a tiny guy like that has to play big but he carries it too far when I dont really think he needs too.

Im stunned that people cheering for Canada have hatred for the guy, he will be a huge factor as the tourney moves on.

Hey guys, I missed the entire game due to work.

How did guys like Virtanen do especially?, and Gauthier

Virtanin was beautiful this game. Made plenty of excellent plays and looked like a 50 goal scorer in the W that he is. Some great display of moves as well.

I wanna see him with McDavid and Lazar. Ritchie kills that line terribly.

Gauthier was not noticeable at all outside of PK. Won couple faceoffs, dumped puck out and thats it.

Team quality might make a difference, but not that much. One team has been the biggest run and gun team in the CHL the past few years and one is stingy and builds it's entire game around playing stingy.

The numbers IMO are just a small piece, judge their skills. Fucale might be more athletic, but IMO Comrie provides a calm and is a better blocker.

I don't watch enough QMJHL to comment on that but I do realize Halifax has played a much more run and gun style. Tri-City is by no means a defensive juggernaut though Comrie often was facing 40-50 shots a night. Without him the Americans likely finished at or near the bottom of the WHL rather than sneaking into the playoffs last year. Again not to say Comrie is clearly better or worse but it is up for debate on who gives Canada a better chance to win at this point.

I really think sooner than later Petan and Fabbri might be put back with McDavid and Lazar, Virtanen, and one of Crouse, Paul, Ritchie form a physically dominant line that can provide offense. Although Point has played well enough to factor in there as well. On the other hand you could argue why fix what isn't broken in terms of the 3rd line, McDavid is skilled enough to make basically any play on the roster, outside of Gauthier, semi productive.

both eichel and mcdavid played good today but mcdavid was better imo despite not getting a point.

not impressed with haniffin

LOL this whole post. The whole thing. Just a brilliant parody post that I bet no one got.

...

I mean...right?

Just came back from the game. I know we only played Slovakia but some people made impressions while others didn't.

Jake Virtanen is awesome. He goes to all the dirty areas. You always see him driving the net and going to the corners to grab loose pucks. On the backcheck, he's always there taking the body. Not to mention that he has some pretty quick hands and a knack for putting the puck in the net. Vancouver has a good one.

Curtis Lazar has been horrible in the games against Switzerland and Slovakia. He hasn't been able to catch a pass and when he's had the puck, he's been too slow to release the puck or make another decision. Was expecting much more.

Connor McDavid has also had a bit of a hard time. He's slightly predictable. Whenever he enters the zone, he enters wide and then always drops the puck to the trailer at around the top of the circles or hashmarks. Basically he's forcing the play. When I watched Eichel today, he did the exact opposite. Eichel slowed the play down and took the time to make cerebral plays. Eichel played a really good first period but then played cocky the rest of the game. Anyways, McDavid isn't getting any help from Lazar.

Duclair and Domi are so much fun to watch. Duclair's speed is helping him blow by defensemen and it's also helping him force opposing defensemen to make mistakes and to lose the puck. Domi is shifty in his own right. He keeps putting the puck in the net even though it doesn't seem like his shot is too hard.

I continue to not be super impressed by Reinhart. He sees the play well and makes good passes but there really isn't any distinguishing factor.

Gauthier does not belong on this stage. He has a huge frame and yet he can't muscle people off the puck and he falls everywhere on the ice

Petan is awesome. Sees the play well and takes some chances despite his small frame

Fucale was very solid. He definitely was shaky in the first two exhibition games but that was not apparent in this one.

Go Canada Go!!!

Great post, i was at the game and agree on everything you said !! we are gonna need much more from a Guy Like Lazar but i think he Will get better and better as the tournament goes

Go Canada Go!!!

What were the crowds like? Size? Enthusiasm? Etc...

I paid attention to Virtanen closely , i wanted to see if he would look dominating on the ice with so many great players..

What i noticed: I swear, He looked like the fastest player on the ice between both teams....which is extremely surprising considering he's 6'1 and 210 lbs

Hands, goal scoring, speed, hitting, grit... This kid has 1st line potential imo

Mcdavid hype is ridiclous. Canada plays good and wins 8-0 and yet people wants to break up succesful lines just to satiesfy mcdavid. He didnt look like a crosby talent to me.

Not to homer for Fucale (can I even homer if he's not a Moosehead anymore?) but the bad game against Russia was also the day Halifax traded him, which could have been a factor.

Bad game? He let in 2 goals. One was from Reinhart's skate.

McDavid played a good game, he's going to be huge in the up-coming games.

Congrats to Canada for absolutely deserved blowout win, if you guys played with 100% effort during the whole game, I am afraid to guess the result. Oh, and take note, players who couldn´t even keep their stability on the skates like Jendrol and Pavuk are from our reportedly great U20 project which reportedly saves us in the top division...

I haven't had the benefit of seeing Lazar play very much outside of the World Juniors and he really hasn't impressed me at all. He's only been noticeable for not being able to coral passes and making bad plays. After so many people were so excited that the Sense released him and he was given the C I was expecting a lot more from him.

How'd Crouse look?

I thought Crouse looked pretty good out there

I agree. Lazar better start worrying more about his own game instead of worrying about how McDavid is or isn't coping with the pressure. wipe the silly goofy grin off his face and find his game face. It's getting annoying.
